How did he end up wanting to buy a laptop? Were you selling them or buying them? 3.) If he actually sent you $1700 REAL USD, how was he a scammer?

X is some event or product or something the scammer will think he can take advantage of. Here it was probably something like doing a commercial for laptops where the best one gets a free laptop or something. Check out 419eater's letters archive, you'll see how it works.

Re my last comment: O.K., I just saw the text file linked into the description. When this guy first does the script (without the screen behind him), I couldn't make out a word he was saying. Hell, even when I COULD hear what he was saying, I had to listen twice out of pure disbelief!

That script is hilarious - that MUST have been supplied by the Scam Baiter. I can't believe the scammer fell for it! I knew that some people were sending the odd picture requests in response to the scammers, but I didn't know it was called scam baiting, and I had no idea how widespread it is. I only hope that the scam baiters don't get in trouble for what they're doing. It would be insane, but in a world where a burglar can sue their victim if they hurt themselves, it really wouldn't surprise me
