There are actually a whole lot of interesting thematic concerns and details in this film. Neil Gaiman wrote the script and he is awesome. Unfortunately the wacky animation and fight sequences turned it into goofiness too often, and the movie is not as awesome as it could have been. My 2 cents.

The animation is excellent. In the beginning, it seemed like a video game, but as the movie went on, the characters looked so real. Holy crap. Also, Grendel is an ugly ass troll wow, it was hard to look at it.

And the legend of beowulf arose orally first, which the movie shows. And the last scene with beowulf, him as the king says "Too late for lies". Its just a modern conspiracy stating (within the original legend) what if beowulf wrote his own legend to cover up a large secret.

Now watch the movie again, and take notice of how the character of beowulf is in a way, silently promoting his own story as king, and how he realizes, as the dragon arises to his kingdom, how he felt responsible enough to slay the dragon himself, which he does in the original legend. Thats why I love this movie so much, the writers took so many heeds, and opportunities to invent their own reality for the hero. Great stuff. watch the movie again :)

From all of the reviews for this film I've read it seems that the vast majority of people dislike this movie.

I never got that.

I really liked it. I found the story easy enought to follow, the acting was good especially from Hopkins. The CGI was great and the action scenes were well-done.

I can't think of anything to complain about this movie. Apart from reccommending that Mr Winton try and refrain from shouting so much.

@xecrald Yes, they are allowed to do that. Songs of any stature can be passed to other movies, trailers, etc. Hell, unless the movie-company in general says "No" or the original composer takes it to court, movies are allowed to use whatever they want.

Oh, and the song is called "In the House - In a Heartbeat" by John Murphy. It is not called the '28 Days Later theme', despite what most five-year old's tend to think. Just because 28DL made it famous, it does not mean it is its solitary theme.
