  • in your dreams work this about 1 watt lesser lol

  • this is NEVER a 2 watt laser

  • @billysgeo This diode will not cut sheet metal and would be very iffy on balsa. You would get better results with a CO2 laser system.

  • @billysgeo Thanks for the reply...

  • How much was the total build cost?

  • wth? IR laser? WoW

  • What is it for?

  • @subexpression It comes in handy for lighting fireworks. I also use it sometimes in the building of RC planes from colored foam. It will not cut or drill white foam, however.

  • @billg519 in need of an IR laser to kill toenail fungus. do not know how powerful the ones the foot docs use. But i think i could improve on the technique.

please help me with the tech stuff. find out what the docs use and how powerful it is and how i can make my own. thanks

  • @triggerja Did you make that up??? Could lasers be used in that way? By a non medical person?

  • @triggerja It would take a medical specialist to determine these answers. Be very careful, as laser burns can be excruciatingly painful.

  • Did you make that laser? If so, how?

  • Better be careful with your eyes when using that thing.

  • @kledder2 I have several pairs of good goggles.

  • @billg519 how much do you like this laser and where can i get one?

  • What safety goggles would you recommend for a 2W focus-able 808nm laser? I was going to purchase one from Lazerer but they don't carry the safety goggles.

  • @upperlevelthegreat You will need a pair rated OD5+ at 808nm. Try to get good ones.

  • range? :c

  • @zn4rf This is a burner, so the range is very short, maybe 18 inches or so. The range can be increased, but this involves special optics (anamorphic prisms and cylinder lenses) to correct the beam from a bar-line emission to a spot. These additional optics are expensive and can be complex to set up in a confined space like a handheld laser.

  • @billg519 18" were it actually burns? I mean an overall range of 18" would be a bit short(?)

  • @zn4rf Yes, this is a short range burner with the lens that is on it.

  • @georgetroulis 808nm is really near-IR light. Most people can see this as a dull red color, although one should not view the spot from a powerful laser at close range without eye protection. Cameras don't know how to process this dark reddish light, so it usually shows up as silver-gray in a photo or video. Cameras seem to see well into the IR spectrum, I have a 980nm laser where the beam and spot is invisible to the eye, but easily picked up on camera.

  • damn i need to get me one of those

  • il buy it i saw some where you were selling

  • is a 200mW laser IR?

  • @mcwario13 Is a 3" diameter coffee cup green?

  • @mcwario13 The 200mW is a measure of laser output power. The 200mW laser's beam could be IR, red, green, blue, violet, or some other less common but possible color.

  • @billg519 no i mean 200nm

  • @mcwario13 A 200nm laser would be a UV laser, the other end of the spectrum from IR.

  • @billg519 so it is UV,purple,blue/violet,blue,green,yellow,orange,red,IR right

  • @mcwario13 200nm is a particular UV wavelength, so it is UV, NOT purple, violet, red, green, yellow, orange, IR or blue.

  • must be bright as fuck

  • @fishfart100

one funny thing about ir is that it is INVISIBLE for the naked eye.

most videocams record the ir as red or in very bright conditions as white.

so it is not bright at all..

  • @fishfart100 The human eye does not see this powerful laser emission as bright because our eyes do not respond well to this frequency. Most people see it in person as a dim dull deep red. However, the power is there, and will do eye damage very rapidly if eye protection is not used and the beam happens to be deflected somehow into the eye. You will not even blink, but the retina will cook.

  • Question, im thinking of a design that uses a 2watt laser, IR seems good, its a table top laser cutter, but i have the problem of it cutting through the table... What is resistant eneugh to the laser's power but light eneugh to be used? This is like a plastic / small metal cutter idea. Also, how do i contain any reflected IR light, just powerder painted white / black metal? or just use a tiny layer of cement..

  • @iToasterman

A few things to consider. The IR diode will not cut light colored materials such as white depron foam for r/c planes. Black foam cuts instantly, the pink foam cuts very well. You will not cut even cigarette foil metal with a 2W diode. It will cut 1mm rosin core solder wire. Your table is in no danger from a 2W diode as ordinary aluminum foil will not be cut by this diode. Most people building a laser cutter us a CO2 laser tube setup of at least 20W. con'td ...

  • @iToasterman cont'd ...

A fiber optic cable could transmit the beam from the tube to the moving cutting head. The CO2 will cut white foam, clear plastic, glass, ceramic, and metal. It is the best way. I have a 60W diode based bench laser, it will cut tin can steel and utility knife blades. It will not cut white foam. For protecting your table from a CO2 laser, test ceramic tiles with the laser you buy. CO2 tube, power supply and cooling pump are usually on ebay, from 20W to 100W sizes.

  • @billg519 I don't want a big giant tube in it, just sumthing small, so your suggesting multiple lasers just switching to the fiber optic cable for different material? what type?

  • @iToasterman The fiber optic cable could allow the tube to be located away from the cnc cutting table. Diodes and any light colored material will be a problem. I have tried diodes on white foam, no go even if I draw a black line on the foam where the cut is, it only burns the line off. This is why those import chinese laser cutter boxes use a CO2 tube in the base of the device. A 20W CO2 tube might be as short as 20 inches long.

  • @billg519 im thinking of the 10"x10" area :P

  • IS THAT WHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????

  • @mcwario13

The cam sees IR light as gray, and will show strong IR light as white. This makes a cam handy for checking laser operation as it can see what the eye cannot. You can see the laser on the cam viewscreen with the laser goggles on.

  • @billg519 i kinda already know but i just had to bring that up

  • omfg i want one

  • Check out my homepage for further experiments using laser. There are several easy to do examples to split the beam, modulate on of the two and then recombine them to produce low frequency beats. These beats should be able to induce currents into the body to transmit sound or steer muscles if used with high power lasers.

  • @billg519

Get a life. people do this for fun and as a project.

  • @JCNWproductionz

I assume that you were not directing that at me, as I did actually build this device as a learining project, and for the responsible enjoyment of the finished device. The laser is fun, but of course cannot be treated as a toy, but rather as a tool.

  • Any laser that would harm an ignorant child would be illegal in this woosie PC society. You need to build your own, if you know what your doing. I think that if you have that kind of expertise, you could have a real job working for some tech company. We need free energy vehicles, or high efficiency solar cells, or other Green Energy solutions more than toy lasers.

  • @imayberight8

The words "toy" and "laser" don't go together very well. Lasers are not toys, especially multiwatt portable devices that can burn and start fire. I don't know what your point is but :

    a) Lasers are not toys.

    b) I don't sell them

    c) no such thing as "free" energy

  • Better than a 1 watt blue lasar, but hardly worth the asking price, compared to actual lighters or even matches. Cool to look at on you tube, but I can watch that for free!. In this economy (thanks GW), I'm not buying anyone's toy lasers.

  • @imayberight8

There is no asking price as I do not sell lasers.

  • Aren't lasers more than 1w illegal?

  • @wallball5

Illegal to sell into USA unless it meets FDA safety standards and has a type accession number ascribed to it by the FDA. Illegal to export to Australia, no handheld over 1mW can be sent there. You can build and own a powerful DIY laser in most jurisdictions, however selling handhelds is strongly discouraged.

  • Uhhhmmm... Ya! Are you willing to say where to buy? Or did you make that one and want to sell to me??

  • @xCezium137x

I PM'd you with a few suppliers as I do not sell lasers myself.

  • if you do not wear goggles, it can bend, and burn the retina of your eye. just because the human eye does not process or see the wavelength of this particular light, that does not mean the waves are not entering and damaging your eye. it is still light.

  • I just found a new way to light my fireworks that could potentely kill me lol

  • @Hogasofa

Lights fireworks great. Quick and good to have if there is a breeze. Better than matches.

  • @billg519

Why would anyone use an expensive toy laser versus a portable propane torch? If your doing that well for yourself, why not invest in dividend paying stocks, or save for retirement.

  • @imayberight8

Your point is??? This is about lasers, not the stock markets.

  • HOW TO BUY?

  • @LEEWENTI

These are typically a DIY item.

  • what kind of laser is that

  • @Tazz75852

808nm near IR laser. Cam sees beam as gray, in real life the spot looks deep dull red on the wall across the room.

  • where did you get the laser?

  • @geko7844

    Made it myself.

  • So- this could make a nice solder gun..! Also a good way to burn my wifes house down while she's sleeping.. :) WHile maintaining a LEGAL distance without violating any COurt orders...ha ha ha

  • Are the white flashes visible, or only to your camcorder? (Most camcorders can, for example, see the infrared light from a TV remote)

  • what? its too tiny for be a 2W laser diode :s

  • @deadpoems

yea, even if the strongest handheld laser is a 1watt one,so this can't exist

  • @TheMitsu9999 this exists you idiot.

  • @dennisdeslager0

a 2 watt handheld laser?! on which website and who made it? Everyone you ask the strongest is the Spyder Arctic S3

  • @TheMitsu9999 lasershine

  • @dennisdeslager0

    first it says

This is a commonly used product for meetings and conferences, letting you speak out freely.

pointing at something close to a plastic map (the spyder sc3 can melt plastic in the moment it touches it,so it can't be 2 watt)

    and:

This is the commonly used product for demonstrations and presentations in classes, and other activities, making listeners feel released.

And pointing at a blackboard,if you point with an 1 watt laser the blackboard is unusable,so not 2w

  • @dennisdeslager0

and at the end it says:

You'd better not look directly into the laser beam. Even if it is a low powered laser, it will be damaging if you stare at it for quite a while.

If its a 2 watt laser its not low powered.

  • @TheMitsu9999

Lasers go way over 1W. Welding lasers are into the kilowatts, and US military research is into the megawatts.

My strongest laser is 100W. As far as handhelds go, it is not hard to homebuild something a lot more powerful than anything wicked lasers has and for less money too.

  • Hey BilG519, how about a copy of the parts list . send to dexter13601@yahoo.com

  • @dexter13601

2W c-mount diode with FAC from snoctony on ebay.

2 x 1400mA current regulator disk for flashlight from Dealextreme. (Hooked the 2 in parallel to get 2.8A regulated.

1 Aixiz lens for red laser. (works OK)

    1 x 18650 lithium ion battery.

    1 x switch

    1 x custom machined c-mount laser host

  • where to buy?

  • @r0lighedennTV

    These are a DIY item.

  • where and for how much can i get one of these?

  • holy jesus! put three of these parallel to each other and mount them so a trigger turns them all on at once- we are just one step further in the necromorph invasion...

  • You ever tried using it on a cat's tale?

  • @TheseNuts86

Can't quite figure this out ... Are you referring to the literary work (book) called "The Cat's Tale"? Or are you referring to the "tail" of a real cat? I like cats and will not harm one by laser or any other means. Testing laser output on an old ripped book that is ready for the recycling bin does not bother me.

  • YEAH WE ROCK THAT 808

  • Now a bogie....

  • @bajesus666

    Or a stogie ? ...

  • Is this laser some totally hand made custom job?

  • @BountyUFC

    Yes it is custom made.

  • @BountyUFC no it's a custom made hand job

  • 2:20 - 2:40 Tip: dont jerk of while having sound enabled.

  • @JimmyWOWOlsson

One hand runs camera, other hand runs laser, no free hand for other uses ... Oh well ...

  • do you have an online store where i can buy one of these adult toys?

  • @DGKBrooks

No, I would probably be stopped by the authorities. Canada does have laws about laser safety and power. I cannot sell these.

  • Isn't IR supposed to be "not visible to the human eye" ?

    Thx.

  • @bayenne5b ur a dipshit its not visible to the human eye but a video camera has and artificial eye.

  • @kowdie12 Go fuck yourself hoeresoon,

most camera's should show a whitish screen when IR switched off, from there the question.

Don't talk to people like that in future, you won't last for long if you keep yourself that way.

You're not 'tuff' or so when you show off like that.

  • @bayenne5b

808nm is near IR and is perceived as a dim dull red. Cameras see it very well and often show it as gray.

  • @bayenne5b

808nm is NIR or Near I R. It may be visible a a very dim deep red to most people. Dangerous to remove the goggles to check the color if the NIR laser has much power output at all. Not a good idea to even try unless laser is low power, shined at angled white paper with lens set for massive divergence, paper reflects expanded light blob away from you. You see dim red glow on paper. I did this with a 200mW 808 diode run below the laser threshold current as an 808nm LED. Was visible.

  • @billg519 Thx, you give me a good, overthoughd respond ty!

  • hey billg519 what brand of the laser body you use, is it krypton???

  • @gurnaim25

Laser body is custom machined in my own shop.

  • can you light a grill with this?

  • Great another idiotic toy for stupid people to fool around with lasers.........

  • @djteac are you a girl or something?

  • @skyyzthelimit69

I don't think so. There are plenty of females willing to put on the goggles and try this laser. Just another useless comment ... I laugh at them.

  • awesome

  • cool stuff man, but does it also set thing on fire from a larger distance?

  • @TheKareldegrote

Effective distance is about 20cm maximum. Won't focus beyond that without extra optics that are large and expensive.

  • thats will be the soldering iron of the future

  • @jrw6137 ;3

  • @jrw6137

This is a useful idea for precise repairs to very small SMT boards. The 2W output can only melt a tiny blob of solder at a time. Most soldering irons deliver at least 25W of heat, much more soldering power than my little laser can deliver. Maybe I should make a stronger one ...

  • Where can I buy this ??????

  • Man, you need IR filter on your cam! :D

    NICE!

  • is it a full ir laser? because then it has to be invisible for the human eye

  • @Filbob21

808nm is near IR and is therefore visible as a dim, deep red.

  • I'm guessing it will pop a balloon...

  • how is this 2 watts?! i thought the arctic spyder 3 was the best

  • @oOWinterNightOo Arctic Spyder 3 is the most powerful "STREET LEGAL" handheld laser. This one is illegal. This is the difference.

  • @VIPLeague

Yes, my laser is not legal for sale in most jurisdictions. For USA, I would have to have a power-on delay, aperture shutter, keylock, proper labelling, and apply for a US FDA Type Accession Number for this series of laser. It is OK to make one of these for personal non-public use. It is not OK to take this laser out in public, if I was caught with it on the street, it would be seized.

  • Where can I get this laser. So far I can only find 1 watt diodes

  • @atakpup

There are diodes available on ebay. A vendor called "snoctony" runs SNOC Electronics on ebay. Note that diodes above 1 Watt will be c-mount. To use these in a handherld requires a custom machined heatsink / lens mount. The diodes from snoctony will be good quality, I have several myself.

  • @billg519 or you connect two 1 watt diods.

  • @mongolianape

Yes, two beams could be combined. This just requires extra optics, either a beam combiner cube for 808nm, or a mirror to do a knife-edge beam combine.

  • @billg519 If it requires a heatsink doesn't that mean its not very efficient?

a very efficient diode would be using most of the energy, not converting it into unusable heat.

  • @madjimms

Laser diodes are not the most efficient of devices. They are great heaters ... Depending on the type of diode, efficiency could be as low as a few percent, or be nearer to 50%. They all need a heatsink to be used at their rated power. The 5mW 780nm diode in a CD reader is heatsinked. Some diodes require forced air or even water cooling.

  • @billg519 I'm just wondering why something less than 1 watt would need any sort of thermal transfer.

  • @atakpup Dino direct .com

  • @atakpup I think he is using a c-mount diode

  • I thought you were going to write "BITCH" at first but you wrote "BILLG519" instead in the wood burning part of the video.

  • 2:04 to 2:42 I want that pen !!

  • well that laser sucks its 808 nm or something i have a 405 just in the visible spectrum

  • lets murder some stray cats!!!!

  • Actually this is even 5x worse than a 400mW green laser (just noticed its output power)

  • You know your eyes are screwed if you havent been wearing safety goggles while you did this right? Since the wavelength of an IR wave exceeds 720 nm, the human eye can't see it so the eye cannot blink to protect itself from the waves. Theres no difference between pointing a 400mW green laser on to a white surface and looking at it from a close distance for 2:58 mins and doing this (without safety goggles) THIS IS DANGEROUS.

  • @kennyeRt

Since I own several pairs of quality IR laser safety goggles, I can put one pair down beside the laser, as I did in this video, and still have goggles for myself and any visitors. As I also own a couple of 100W 808nm bench lasers, I am well aware of the need for goggles.

  • @billg519 you have a 100W bench laser??!

    a) awesome

    b) why????

    c) where's that video?

    d) are you a pale bald man in a gray suit that holds a white cat and likes use air quotes when saying the word "laser?"

  • @kennyeRt

    It' just a video, idiot.

You cant ruin your eyes by watching videos of lasers..

  • @Biotektan im pretty sure he was talking to the person in the video

  • @kennyeRt I don't think you are right. I have heard that 1000 mw IR laser is, as regards the danger for your eyes, comparable to an 100 mw red laser.

  • @Yoonyah That's not true. Why should it be? IR is dangerous because the eye does not close by reflex if scattered light hits it. Not that it would matters with 2W.

  • point it at justin biebers throat

  • ssssooooo this is more powerful than the Artic Spyder III???

  • is this forbidden in germany???

  • can you send me the ebay link

  • I know the camera picked it up but for you was it like the stuff just lit on fire magically, and there was no laser?

  • @cvbcbcmv

Only the camera sees the beam. The spot produced by the 808nm laser can be seen as a dim deep red, but should not ever be viewed without goggles. I just see the smoke or fire through OD5 goggles.

  • Stronger than the spyder III and the Sartan

  • is it white

  • You should be able to light that fuse from quite far away if you could hold it steady enough.

  • is it dangerous if we watch this video without glasses lol? or its just a colour

  • thumbs up if you thought he was making a dick when he burnd the wood

  • aare you SELLING????

  • its infrared. can you see the ray with your eye?

  • could you say burn a chicks butt from 10 feet away??

  • cacography

  • It's hard to believe that that small thing is a 2 watt laser I can't really believe that.

  • omg.... that thing is dangerus!! :o

TELL ME HOW TO MAKE ONE!!!! xD

  • 2watts for a handheld is rediculous, i watn one

  • @MDNSBS There's a company on Ebay selling 5 watt handhelds for about £300 ($500). That's basically a fucking ray gun, man. I want one!

  • where did u get that diode, and did u make your own driver?

  • how do u make a lazer?!?!?!

  • fajna zapalarka

a tak na poważnie to dobre to by było do odpalania petard

  • To all the people wanting to buy one: If you live in America, laser-selling websites won't sell lasers over 5mW.
