There are different understandings about what the rapture is and when it will occur, but I have to beg to differ, TRUE Christians will be scampering all around preaching Jesus and doing good, including helping to alleviate the ills of the world where possible. Check out the many Christian missionary and disaster/relief organizations around the world.
Sure, I appreciate your feelings about this. And Christian missionary and disaster/relief organizations do some very fine work as do other NGOs. My feelings are quite different though since I no more believe in a rapture-like supernatural event, than I believe in Easter bunnies coming to bring me chocolate eggs. Of course I'm a disbeliever. We can agree to disagree on this one.
I'm glad you acknowledge the goods things Christianity as a whole has done and continues to do. As for your belief in Easter bunnies w/chocolate eggs.... poor analogy. The Bible is backed by history, archaeology, and very specific prophecy as evidence of it's supernatural inspiration through humanity. But you are correct, you are free to believe what you like. I hope you'll reconsider your position though. Your eternal life is at stake.
It's nice that you care for my well being, but any talk about eternal life is wasted. When I die, I will be dead. I'm not afraid of death and death is just a part of life. And as far as your tenets are concerned and the scriptures, I don't believe the Bible books any more than do I believe the Lord of the Rings books. You may find this another bad analogy, but I don't think so.
That's too bad. Take care. And fyi: the difference between Lord of the Rings and the Bible is vast. History is split on the Bible and the person of Christ, arts, literature, culture, morality, etc. etc. influenced by the Bible for centuries. Last I checked Lord of the Rings doesn't carry this sort of influence. (Not dissing it either cuz I did like the stories in LOR as I do Star Wars, Star Trek, Matrix, etc which are all based on religion/philosophy)
Praise God :) Organization is not such a bad thing. Te opposite is disorganization. Methodists got their name because of methodological ways of getting things done. God's kindgom is run in decency and in order. The SDA church is blessed with great spiritual truths that have allowed it to flourish for the sake of reaching people around the world. Happy Sabbath!
"And I have sat in a SDA church and the whole service dedicated to her NOT Jesus NOT God"
If this was your expereince at the church you went to.. sorry to hear that. This is not what the Seventh-day Adventist church teaches nor is it was Ellen White recommended of her own writings. I've got a video that I made with many of her quotes showing how people misuse her writings. The Bible & the Bible alone is to be carried to the front of pulpits for our rule of faith & doctrine. Jesus alone saves.
However, based on my own studies and I've read almost all of her writings so far, I feal she is in harmony with what the Bible teaches. EW has provided a lot of good council and guidance for the Adventist Church and much of what she wrotes is still relevant for the church today. But her writings do not decide doctrinally what we the church believe.
You have every right to be skeptical of EW. No arguments there. And I beg to differ but there is ALOT of evidence showing the extreme benefits of a balanced vegetarian diet. National Geographic themselves did a whole segment on people that lived the oldest and most healthiest lives on the planet and the vegetarian SDAs at Loma Linda, CA where specifically referenced.
How much homework have you done on EW? We have to remember, God's messengers are not perfect. Bible gives LOTS of examples. (Moses, Miriam, Aaron, Peter, Paul, etc.) Not everything EW wrote was meant to be taken prophetically or as a message from the Lord. But the SDA's fundamental beliefs are all based on the Bible alone and not on the writings of EW. Each person should investigate EW for themselves. But our faith & salvation is in Jesus and the Bible alone.
Keep in mind, vegetarianism is strongly encourage amongst SDA's however it is not enforce, nor is it "church dogma" amongs the leaders. It's just the recommended best diet for mankind for many reasons that just make plain sense. Some of the greatest minds in history like DaVinci & Einstein were vegetarians.
Why is taking care of your body by being mostly vegetarian fanatical? All throughout the Bible there are events of God reforming His people's diet for the sake of their health. Nutritional science proves that those who are primarily vegetarian along with numerous other factors tend to live the longest. SDA in Loma Linda are included in those studies. By taking care of our bodies as God commands we can render better service to His cause.
That's too bad. I'm a SDA and I enjoyed most of Hovind's debates (could have done without the sarcasm though). Not all SDA's are like that. For example, I saw the movie Fireproof and have enjoyed the book the Love Dare and the Fireproof couples kit. We should always stick with what is good & pure & true, regardless of where it comes from, because if it is good & pure & true, it comes from the hand of God. Hovind is dead wrong about the 7th day Sabbath though. :)
It's spelled out in the video. In the notion that Christ will return "secretly" prior to the tribulation to rapture His church leaving the unsaved on earth to suffer through the plagues.
Calm down please. There are baptists who believe that Christ's return will be secret. Meaning He will return, rapture up His church and leaved the unsaved on earth for another 7 years. This is unbiblical.

The Rapture, a ridiculous hoax, causes people to be impassive towards the real ills of society and dangers to mankind such as global warming.

What do you mean "Secret"??

What notion of Christ returning secretly are you talking about??
You still didn't answer; What do you mean "Secret"?
The only thing that is secret about Christ's return is "when".(Matt 24:36,42,44)(1 Thess. 5:2)
Everyone will see Him come with a shout and they will know He is Lord.
And, does it matter? We are not appointed unto wrath. (1 Thess 5:9-10)
We are to hold our faith in good conscience always (1 Tim. 1:19-20)
And, we are to be steadfast to the end (Heb. 3:14)

Sorry, I don't mean to sound anyway about it.
I know there are some people who believe all kinds of things, associating it with Christ, but, are just unbiblical.
