I would like to see a law in place to ensure that the tax payers who are paying for this hardware will have guaranteed access to the footage if they request it. I've heard of multiple instances where dash cam footage goes "missing" when it contains evidence that is damaging to an officer's defense.

@sincerelyskeptical The cameras are for the Police Department to review so they can work out a plausible defense after interviewing witnesses, then the video is destroyed under Copely v. Superior Court and the Police Officer's Bill of Rights. They can't trust the lying cops and need to see what they did to build a proper defense. The Officers are then coached to right matching reports. On one shooting I saw 34 revisions as I took the revised reports back and forth.

Anyone noticed the pattern of comments on this subject.

Huge amounts of people feel that, putting these cameras in place, will dramaticaly change the level of service, during police encounters.

Just by the way the comments are worded- there is no doubt that these people have had an encounter with a dishonest cop.

So when will the majority of the public OPEN THEIR EYES, and realize that police officers now consider "the bad apple", to be the old-school cop = that still tells the truth!

Obviously I don't think the material taped should be viewed other than to support or dismiss any misconduct/behavioral questions that arise in an incident. People still need to have some leeway to do their jobs no matter what it is. When you are in a position of authority and have the capacity to violate another's civil rights you DO need a higher standard of accountability without having someone micromanage you. Hopefully this tool will be used in a wise manner for this end.

As i heard this i counldent help think how this is for the publics protection and bennifit. The police need to but just as accountable as the public they are sworn to protect and serve.

While I do worry at the potential for abuse (video can be manipulated), It's hard to imagine a problem with police employing video. If citizens are able to use video, so should police. This will help to exonerate cases where police are doing their duty and help courts point out cases where they are not. I'm no fan of tazers, but cameras for police are a good thing.
