Anyone remember Cass's venture into acting? Remember PufinStuff, and then there was a daytime soap opera "Dr Kildare" which she appeared in an episode entitled "Charlotte Wade Make Lots of Shade." It was so good. She played an overweight person struggling to control that, and she triumphed the judgments and stereotypes of others. Heard also during the 70s she was being considered to be in a biopic on Kate Smith. Cass exemplifies spirit and love and going beyond hang ups on physical appearance.

@purselady2 She was born Ellen Naomi Cohen on September 19, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland. Her stage name was Cassandra or "Cass" Elliott. With the group "The Mamas and the Papas", she was called "Mama Cass". Sadly she died of a massive heart attack in her sleep on July 29, 1974 after a triumphant concert in London, England. She was only 32 years old.

While I agree that Cass would indeed be a Broadway star today, she couldn't be a pop singer without looking like a supermodel. A lot of pop singers today can't even carry a tune, but they're beautiful and that's what counts.

There were a number of acts in the 60's that couldn't possibly have been based on looks... like Bob Dylan. :)
