Both, Americans and Vietnamese were severly damaged by this war. On one side, americans were massacred by traps, suicide bombers, and guerrilla tactics. On the other hand, vietnamese were killed by air attacks with bombs, napalm and agent orange. Plus, agent orange still has negative side effects on people who fought in the Vietnam war (americans and vietnamese).

Vietnam war started in 1935 by Ho Chi Minh out of the Soviet embassy in China. It ended 1984 the last major attack by Chinese on Vietnam. The US fought from 1965-1873. US never started this war but did its part in stemming communist aggression. In the end US won the cold war, Soviets lost. Chinese are communists in name only but capitalists in practicality. Vietnam lost everything for superpower rivalry not for its independence. Ho saw to that.

US did not spray in populated areas, it sprayed deep in the jungles, unpopulated areas People become deformed from Vietnams abuse of low quality coal for their energy uses. Home heating/cooking, smelting, electrical generation all produces widespread dioxin in city centers. What US sprayed has long since sedimented into clays and soils and no longer affects people.
