  • I knew I heard a Utah accent... then the license plate shot.

  • @gironic lol I'm glad I've still got it!

  • IT IS'NT THAT FUCKING EASY ON MY H22!!!

  • Do you have to change the belt and pump at same time?

  • @flickerman68 No, but it's very prudent to do so. It combines labor and ensures you don't have to repeat the process unnecessarily or lose a belt due to a pump seizing up.

  • Great video! Do you advise replacing both tensioners when your in there? I'm about 40k overdue to change mine lol, oops.

  • @DudeNiceVCR Not at 90K miles. DEFINITELY at 180K miles.

  • Did you use that BIG ASS HAMMER (BAH) to remove the "idiot hoods"? =)

  • @creativeinventor I'm a fan of using the right tool for the job. I love the hammer, but it has it's place. I used a plasma torch and some DEF (Urea based diesel exhaust fluid) You know to reduce oxides of nitrogen during the burning process. (piss on that!)

  • would this apply to the "C" engine acura 3.5rl also? besides the engine being transved? thanks

  • @mcook4098 Yes it's very similar even to the 3.2L ones too.

  • Hello Brian!

After I removed the belt and replaced the water pump, how do I put both cams and crank to TDC? Which direction do I turn? I tried turning the cams but they won't even move.

  • @eurosport239 The FIRST thing you do on any timing belt is to line up TDC BEFORE taking the belt off. If you didn't, put the belt back on the way it is and then rotate it to TDC. The front cam should have a #1 stamped on it. Get that mark on the Timing cover mark. The cams are under extreme valve spring pressure. Don't expect them to rotate easily. Good luck!

  • Thanks for the video. 2 questions-

    1) how do you install the belt & move all tensioner to the tensioner side without moving the marks?

    2) You mention turning the crankshaft pulley; do you install the bolt naked or w/harmonic balancer?

  • @JimzAuto 1) Apply the belt such that the slack it to the tensioner side to begin with. 2) With HB.

  • Thanks for the video. I saw another video before yours, but you have more technique. :)

I still wish I wasn't as intimedated with Auto work. I end up taking mine to the shop; but I was looking at your video to see if what I am being charged seemed reasonable.

  • @timdota I'm currently writing a script for a video on fear. It's a survival necessity, but it's played in advertising and politics to the point people don't grow and progress. Our society NEEDS more empowered people! It' ok to lose battles now and then, but if you never fight you lose the war and everything else.

  • Very nice video,

  • @treeapron Thanks- I'm glad you liked it.

  • any tips on how to remove a crank bolt, or how to set the marks on the pulleys...

  • @mr777davidben I have a video on that on my channel under "How to remove that stubborn harmonic balancer bolt on Honda Acura"

  • BTW: I'm getting ready to do this same job on a Saturn Vue. They run the Honda 3.5L engine.

  • @RobertGary1 Cool. Good luck and thanks for posting that.

  • Awesome video but I am a bit sea sick now. I think I'll go walk the dog.

  • Problem is I have a torx bit set however my handle bar with the torx attachment is too big to get into that tight spot. would you mind providing some details on what type of tool i'll need to get in there or where I can find one online? Thanks BM1

  • @DDee26 I use a set from Autozone that is a 3/8" drive with an extension- usually a 3" or 6" will do it.

  • did you have to remove the drive belts in front of the timing belt cover? I notice you had a rubber belt on top of the motor? I'm asking because the service manual says to remove it but i dont have the tool (looks like a handler bar with a torx head attached to it). I'm a total newbie so excuse my vocab.

  • @DDee26 1. Yes you do have to remove the belt. Torx sets are cheap and you'll need them again in the future. It's cheaper to buy ALL the tools for the job than pay some one else to do it. And all said and done you'll have the tools for the next time.

  • awesome!!! Youuuuu the man!!!!

  • is this the same for a 2000

  • @hp11208 The power steering pump is only slightly different. The timing and pump procedure is the same.

  • What year Honda odyssey is this Brian?

  • @castillosc3 I think it's a 2002

  • what about the harmonic balancer and bottom plastic cover: the two hardest parts? You should stick to surfing or skydiving, bruh.

  • @greygolfer55 They aren't hard. You don't even need a puller for the H.B. and the lower cover is like three bolts that are easy to deal with. Work's done! Let's go skiing!

  • Was able to remove crankshaft pulley with a 50mm hexagonal bolt tool and breaker bar. Ordered the tool from Amazon for $25. Thank you for tutorial and sense of humor.

  • @greygolfer55 You're welcome- glad I could pitch in.

  • Hey bro, this video is awesome. I learned a lot from it. Who cares if you don't know the car vocabulary right? as long as you can get the job done. Thumbs up

  • @briansmobile1 - I just finished the t-belt and w-pump and could not have done it without your video! You saved me countless hours of "how does that come apart?" noodling. I completed the job in about 8 hours, which I didn't think was too bad. My only suggestion for addition to this video is:

    - Describe taking the big plastic splash shield off the bottom

    - Describe taking the h-balancer off. I needed to heat this up to get it off with the impact wrench!

    Thanks again!

    Wirewheels

  • @Wirewheels You're welcome! Perhaps you could do a video response to this one?

  • RE supporting from below - got it. Also looks like you took the wheel off to make access room through the wheel well, and removed the big plastic splash panel. Oh, also removed the harmonic balancer?

Also RE parts - the Honda dealer had the best price AND the parts in stock. I normally don't buy parts from the dealer, but made sense in this case.

  • excellent video but it keeps stopping haft way do have another video related to this ? how didyou get the tensioner off?

  • @108arsenio Pull the idler pulley first. Then you can just unbolt the tensioner. Be sure to compress it S-L-O-W-L-Y after it's off so it doesn't fail on you later.

  • @briansmobile1 ok. that video tip worked good.

  • @yessenia31290 Glad it worked out for you. That's what it's for. = )

  • @108arsenio Total vid length is 7:15. If yours is less that that try pausing it near the beginning and then eat lunch or something and come back to it. I don't generally do the whole re install because you took it appart and have already been there done that. And I would rather go skiing or fly a helicopter than film the install. I want to help... but I also want to have a sliver of play time now and then. I have like 220 vids, but not a penny from it yet. Got to pay bills you know.

  • Great video - THANK YOU! One question - did you have to support the engine, or was the mount you took out not a supporting mount.

  • @Wirewheels yep, I support it w. a jack and a 4X4 wood block from BEEE- LOWW.

  • thank you !!!

  • @chetured You're welcome!

  • thanks very helpful....

  • @elchato66 you're welcome! Cheers!

  • nice video.

  • @kody530 Glad you liked it ; )
