the guitar is not out of tune, he's just playing very odd, dissonant chords and it's way up front in the mix which, along with the tone he chose, makes it seem off. i mean c'mon, these guys are a big band playing national television...yea right they forgot to tune their guitars LOL
His guitar is definitely out of tune. No doubt about it. He might be playing aggressively and that would bring it out more, but it's clear he's out of tune.
@getupanddosomething capos have a tendency to make things sound out of tune. I find the higher up you put them, the more out of tune you will sound. He has his on like his 5th or 6th fret so that may be one of the reasons why he sounds out of tune. I agree with what you said about him playing aggressively too though.

All I want to do to Strongstedt, is to give him a good kicking. That man should stop singing immediately. He absolutely have no singing voice and obviously no sense either. And what is the point anyway; especially in Amber Coffman he has one of the most brigthly talented female singers backing him. She should always be in the foregound and if she can't be the frontfigure in Dirty Projectors, she should go solo or start her own band now
@headspacedesign ehh, I beg to differ. I've heard this song on the album hundreds of times and there's no intentional dissonant notes like that. They were ill-prepared.
@cmatthews926 Dave usually tunes his guitar down two tones (leaving the open top and bottom strings at D etc.), he then tends to capo it and the 4th fret (E) leaving it at standard guitar tuning. This gives the strings a considerable amount of tension and therefore requires less force to bend the notes, which is what is happening when you hear incidents of dissonance. The guitar is very much in tune.
twoah that mix does not suit dirty projectors... throughout this video I was just shouting 'turn up the vocals and the guitars dirty projectors aren't about front men!'
does any body see a resemblance between dave and rivers cuomo in this video? no offense intended
