i dont know if she was a real princess or if she just saw all those things like pan in her head. i heard that the girl wanted to flee from her horrible world and so she made her own world which just lived in her head. because the movie ends with her dying and not with her as a princess
I saw this on dvd, in a villa in the Pyrenees last summer, while I was laid up with a bad back. I can't WAIT for a few years to go by, so I can forget some of it and watch all over again!
This film belongs in every true movie buff's library: he film has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes,[27] and a 100 percent rating among the "Cream of the Crop" critics.[27] It received a 98% rating at Metacritic,[28] making it Metacritic's fourth highest rated movie of all time.[29] At its Cannes Film Festival release, it received a standing ovation.[30] It also received a standing ovation at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival,[31] its first release in the Americas. My favorite all-time.
A fabulous film, undoubtedly Del Toro's best. Very European in it's pace and intensity. Amazing emotional punch and great performances. Thought the Dr's death was incredibly poignant.
kenrehai..i now exactly what you mean...i just saw mirrormask recently and fell in love with it, it's story, characters, imagination and of course the soundtrack! I believe that slowly but surely more filmakers will begin to make more artistic films like those..I can only hope!
an extremely imaginative movie. If u liked this, check out Mirrormask from Jim Henson studios. The world needs more creative, imaginative, mature, alluring, and enchanted fairytale movies like these.
Oh Guillermo you make Mexico proud, and show the world Mexican Cinema. When the US makes movies in Vancouver they are still Hollywood movies. But cheers to Spain because the story is about the Spanish Civil War, and had a, not 100%, Spanish cast.
Don´t be foul, the producer, director and writer is a mexican, and so are many people of the staff, many mexican have a spanish background just as some american have irish, not all american are black right?? don´t think the entire Mexico is what you see on cnn.
In the Oscars 2007 Spain decided to chose "Volver", directed by Almodovar to be nominated as a foreign language film, but finally only Penelope Cruz got a nomination as best actress for that film. that's why pan's labyrinth was considered a movie from Mexico.
the movie represented Mexico, because the writer, producer and director is from Mexico, the desition was taken among three mexican directors, who are friends by the way,Alfonso Cuaron (children of men), Alejandro Inarritu (Babel) and Guillermo del Toro (el laberinto del fauno)they decided to choose pan´s labyrinth.
The story takes place in Spain, after the spanish civil war, so it is a spanish story although it was writen by a mexican. all the cast are spanish and some of the technicalls too and the stages were recorded in Segovia (near Madrid [Spain]). Anyway I think is stupid to worry about what's the country the movie belong.
the movie is more from spain because it takes place in 1944 of spain and they use the words vosotros, bebis, and comis which is only used in the culture of spain. not in any other hispanic or latino culture like venezuela, brazil, or mexico.
such a great movie I loved it. and remember that many mexicans are proud of our spanish heritage, just like many americans are proud of their Irish heritage.
this is an exalent movie. very sad, infact i cried at the end of the movie when ophelia died. i would not recomend it to people who dont like sad movies
I think perhaps you should view this film with a more open eye, considering that the movie itself is an expression of several points of view that are more open than most.
It is unbecoming of the unique nature of it to place such contraints as you have.
Actually its a Spanisch-Mexican cooperation. There was a big debait in Spain weather to present this movie or Volver by Almodóvar. They decided on Volver (which didn't win any oscars, by the way) the setting is close to Madrid, about 60km north-east.
Guillermo del Toro escribió la historia, es una idea original de èl, y la mayoría de las personas que hicieron posible esta obra de arte, son mexicanos.
forgot one thing...To me, personally, it's also about faith.
If the fairy tale does not exist, then all that for nothing. If it is, how marvelous it is for Ofelia to return to her "loving Father," or as written somewhere else: "Well done, my good and faithful servant. Come, share my joy."
Best movie so far indeed. Simple said, the movie is about life: A time to be born, and a time to die; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
There are so many metaphors of this movie about life it's amazing. The genius of the writer of this movie is way beyond our contemporary time. 1000 years from now, this movie's message will still apply to humanity.
Saritaillescas...the movie isnt spanish...the movie is mexican...it was film in spain and the crew is spanish...welll most of them...but the idea is mexican Guillermo del toro has the idea... A WEBO VIVA MEXICO!
I believe tel toro the director could make a great sequel on pan's labyrinth like what happens during ofeilas rule as princess does anyone join her or take her place after shes gone?
This is Valowlifes son so dont worry youtube ppl it isnt my dad so dont think im a oline predator. I really care about her alot if only there was some way to meet her id probably do anything for her

I loved pan's labyrinth it was a beautiful spectcaular a lil sad but there is life in death. And believeing in what is right is truly important i hope that I can some day meet the spanish actress Ivana Baquero in person because ever since ive seen this. I've fallen in love with her shes only 2 years younger then me ive becomed a lil obsessed.
I served over twelve years in the US Army, and after seeing this film, I went and bought the soundtrack. I played it as I made dinner for my wife and I. I wept for the girl. I asked her to leave me as I worked because I didn't want her to see how affected I was. It is a powerful piece!
Todd - It takes guts for some one to show emotions. You must be a great husband to your wife. I also loved this movie very much, and yeah, sight got cloudy at the end.

iv3rdawG next time kind of say SPOILER so anyone who has not seen it yet does not have the movie spoiled. If you guys want to see the famous Pale Man scene you can go to my channel and see it as I uploaded my first video. Sorry for the low volume. If possible I might post the entire movie only if possible.
Once again excellent music video and I am so totally buying the OST and the DVD when they come out.
Aw man, this particular song makes me cry, I bet those who saw it know why. I love that the second time the lullaby is hummed it gets cut off half way for a reason, and it gets me even sadder. but i´m not telling!!! This is the most amazing movie ever!
Thanks for the comment, Raven. I hope it plays near you. It sucks that films like Codename: The Cleaner get released in 1,000+ theatres but movies so spectacular like Pan's Labyrinth take weeks to open in that many. Hopefully you will be able to see it ASAP.
omg, this was so beautifully done...i cannot wait to see this movie although since it probably wont open where i live, i'll have to wait until it comes out on video...but this tribute was just beautiful...lets you know that the creatures below arent the monsters...the monsters live in our world

Never mind. Turns out someone did before me. The Pale Man scene is still there for those Pale Man fans like me. =D

Brilliant and sad through the entire thing.
iv3rdawG next time kind of say SPOILER so anyone who has not seen it yet does not have the movie spoiled.

This is the most amazing movie ever!

your right it so fuckin brilliant and so stunning, this clip just got me all tear eyed like i did yesterday when i went to see it

Thanks for the comment, Raven. I hope it plays near you. It sucks that films like Codename: The Cleaner get released in 1,000+ theatres but movies so spectacular like Pan's Labyrinth take weeks to open in that many. Hopefully you will be able to see it ASAP.

I call that racism, Mexican director, Spanish actors, what other reason could you think of?

Authenticity is the word your looking for.

I love Javier Navarrete's "Una Princesa". It's sad and happy like "Te sabes una nana?"
