  • Seriously Ken, Great video. The footage is much most people would not see unless they went there, which I have not. So Thank You. What a gentle soul that man is, I could listen to him tell it because it's first hand info. That's the kind I like. Great Ken!! Thanks again

  • @Furnifur Thank you - Being there was more moving than I could have previously imagined.

  • Every good myth has some basis in fact....

  • @CrappyCartoons were we not bombed on Dec 7 @ Pearl harbor?? When did this horrible day wind up in the realm of MythBusting?

  • @Furnifur A sovereign state was stolen from Queen Liliuokalani and occupied by armed forces which refused to allow the inhabitants democratic rights. Who is this we of which you speak. Remember the Maine - Remeber the Lusitania - Remember Pearl Harbor - Remember the Gulf of Tonkin - every good myth has some basis in fact. I am sad for thousands who lost their lives and were injured.

  • Thank Kenrg for this fantastic and emotional video!!!!

  • @desga77 Thank you!

  • Awesome vid. Sorry it took so long to get to it. thanks for sharing it!

  • @3BallJosh Thank you!

  • Ken, this is a great tribute!!! If I EVER....get the chance to go to Hawaii, THIS will be on the top of my must see places. And I think it's great that they had the 9-11 flag there for the ceremony! I actually never knew of that flag until last Saturday's Arizona tragedy. Anyway, good video!!!

  • @joey75220 I'm embarrassed that it took till my third trip to Hawaii to finally get to Pearl Harbor, but what a day to finally go! Glad you enjoyed the video - Thanks!

  • Interesting historical information and interviews! Captivating video!

  • @blackturtleshow Thanks - That interview was so good and moving, I almost posted it as a stand-alone and not as part of the larger video.

  • Absolutely fantastic video. I cannot watch these videos without tearing up. Thanks, Ken this is YouTube at its best.

  • @ockteby Thank you. You are one of a handful of 'Tubers I was thinking of as I shot this.

  • Well done, Ken. Great video.

  • @ChordToNowhere Thanks!

  • Thanks for taking me along...

  • @fehquig Anytime - Glad you could make it :^)

  • Nice work Ken.

I didn't realise that the remains of any of the ships were still there.

  • @andymooseman It's pretty amazing to see - Must more so than comes out on video. It's also still leaking oil!

  • Great video!

  • @cheekychickenhead Thanks!

  • An excellent video! I put this into my Best of 2010 playlist.

If I'm ever fortunate enough to visit Hawaii, I will probably spend a whole day at Pearl Harbor.

    Thanks for posting!

  • @slyflight Thank you! Yes, I think Pearl Harbor should be on everybody's "must visit" list.

  • That was great. I think of all the lives lost before the instrument of surrender was signed. Particularly thinking of the Ken Burns' doc on the Pacific war, "The War".

  • @juliact Ken Burns does some good work. Yes, much happened between the Arizona and the Missouri. Tragic and heroic and moving.

  • 3balljosh uploaded also an vid about Pearl Harbor...keeps interesting...

  • @Menn019 Thanks for telling me about 3balljosh's vlog - it was very good. Thanks for watching!

  • I was at the pearl harbor memorial december 8th of last year. Sadly i was there one day late but it was an experience I will never forget.

  • @margr84 We were there on the 7th and the 8th this year, and quite a difference in the crowds! It was very moving to be there on the 7th and see the ceremony, but we really had to go back on the 8th in order to actually appreciate the new visitors center and the Arizona memorial without the crowds and lines, etc.

  • Wow, you grabbed tons of great footage on that trip. And getting to talk with one of the survivors = SCORE! Such a treat that these guys are still around and willing to share what they remember.

  • @OhCurt There were over 100 survivors in attendance at the ceremony, but it was so busy, and they were surrounded by so many cameras, it was hard to get to talk to any of them. But we went back the next day too, and that's when my friend and I got to talk with Mr. Schuler for several minutes at the Arizona memorial. That interview really made my trip (and the video).

  • I found it very interesting, and noteworthy, that the official video, at the beginning of your post, stated, "Costly was the loss of: vessels, aeroplanes, and equipment."

Yet, no mention of the 1000's of lives lost; a fact you started with (appropriately) in your post description....

    Great vid!!

  • @esparka I found that interesting as well. I wanted to use the newsreel clip to set the historical background for some of the younger viewers who aren't as familiar as they should be with Pearl Harbor, but it turned out the newsreel wasn't very accurate. In the parts I didn't use, there were several statements of "what happened" that conflict with the official record as it stands now. Thanks for watching!

  • I went to see the Missouri in 83 in Puget Sound before it was re-commissioned and put back into service for a decade then retired again. High-quality footage, excellent editing that provides a smooth, natural narrative to the anniversary. Great music to establish a rhythm to the imagery and memories. There is valor in both events and in the courage to remember.

  • @Rikotistic Thank you. It is fitting that the Missouri is now re-retired and anchored by the Arizona memorial. On the tour of the Missouri, they also talk about that ships duty in the (first) Gulf War.

  • This was worth the wait Compadre... Having been homeported at Pearl for 4 years it brings back lots of memories...

  • @PappyStu Thanks --- I tried to put it as a reply vid to yours, but since you turned comments off, I couldn't see how to do that - meanwhile, I've put your URL in the description box "for more info."

  • @kenrg A significant YT issue in recent days... PM incoming

  • great memorial video,***** stars((smiles)) bitter sweet memories

  • @truckingsonofagun Thank you!

  • Very good video Ken. It really makes an impact to watch it. You should be a documentary maker :)

  • @EdEditz Thanks - I love making these "mini-docs" - Hope to have occasion to do some more.

  • Very well put together Ken, I liked to see the vets in their hawaiian shirts too!

  • @ajdpadbury The aloha shirts of the vets did make a nice counter-image to the uniforms of the current soldiers, didn't it? Thanks!
