  • There used to be an indigenous group that looked exactly like this in the United States, then Washington issued the 1800's decree of "What does an Indian look like". A representative from Washington would have the Native American groups line up and if one did not look like what Washington decreed an "Indian" should look like they were told they were not Indian and were not issued paperwork. If you go to Atlanta, or North/South Carolina you will see thousands of people that look like there video

  • CONT.....It is the biggest identity theft ever committed.

  • The description of this video is sooooooooooooooooo freakin' clueless to the context of island dresses in Vanuatu!

  • And why do some leaders have an issue with such things when there are real issues facing the country- education, hospital equipment etc. They are out of touch, out of line, out of fashion, and quickly running out of time. It is a non- issue, seriously, no one in Vanuatu takes it seriously except this few people and this TV crew..lol.

  • The fact is the common man in Vanuatu has never stood up to the preachers and these so called chiefs. The issues keeps creeping into the public forum, some of the advocates are women representatives attending custom economy workshops etc. The fact is there is no evidence to support their claims that pants attract unwanted attention from men. I think if they did a survey they would be surprised to find that a lot ni-Vanuatu men find it unattractive. But that is beside the point.

  • Question: if you are from Vanuatu in the US, what would be your ethnic classification? Pacific Islander?

  • They have rhythm. Nice!

  • We've been to Vanuatu 1 year ago and we are in love with the country and its people, perhaps the most hospitable and generous people in the world! We lived in a village throughout the holiday, initially out of thirst for adventure my wife was gifted 2 island dresses upon departure from the village. She still has them and she even wore them in New Zealand when the weather permited it. I see nothing wrong with these dresses, they are bright and beautiful like the land, yet simple.

  • Where are the Vanuatu people originally from. Are they from Isreal, like the real Black Hebrew Isrealites and then got shipped all over as slaves?

  • @mattandpatti222 . These brown people are the Indigenous people of vanuatu, just like the rest of Melanesia (black people of australasia). If anything, we are proud that our ancestors were not taken here as slaves but were great sea navigators who migrated over the seas into the pacific Islands some thousands of years ago.

  • @Ailanpatan They migrated here some thousands of years ago, from where Isreal? You know Alexander drove most of the brown-black people out of Isreal.

  • @mattandpatti222 i cant speak for the whole of melanesia because our ancestors arrived at different times and from different routes. Some of them came through asia adding in the fairer genes to the mix. Even though I have never heard of Israel in our history, some melanesians could have come from there. Wherever our ancestors came from one thing for sure,we were never taken here to work as slaves for someone else.

  • I am proud to be a Ni- Van:)!!!!

  • @vanua02. tru nomo. it's common sense mo evri woman or gel i luk naes and proud to be a ni-van blong werem aelan dress. aelan dress blong mi neva flae. ating hem i wantem mekem taets long aelan dress ia..hehehehe

  • @Leipax Same here, Don't worry You all look good in Island dress, She doesn't look good in those pants anyway..hahahahah!!! Missim Vanuatu & cheers frm USA

  • But weren't they walking around naked most of the time. Don't some tribes still walk around naked? I guess the Western culture is invading their island. It is a matter of time before their young people are rapping and joining gangs.

  • That preacher should wear the traditional penis top-up cover than a neck-tie if he so love the traditional dress. Who is he to tell women what they are to wear and using God's name in vain.

  • That frusko preacher fuels his profound loves for talibans than Christianity. His insanity seemed to be an obvious desires for shariah laws and certainly being a potential threat to the people of Vanuatu. Even communists would have changed for a better!

  • I watched your clip about Island dress and I found it very interesting. I am worried about the education on the Islands and I am building a school and an organic village. Could you please contact me because I an interested in your ideas.

  • Say hello to the Christian Taliban. Like there has ever been a difference.

  • North Korea also demands that women dress a certain way along with the Taliban, Saudi Kingdom and anywhere else pathetic men take women as slaves.

  • i like island dress-cos its pretty, especially the smaller ones for the children are so cute

  • Heaven on earth...?? Vanautu !!

    Beautiful people and country.

They are so rich in the things that really matter.

  • i love my country

  • i enjoyed this video. some very interesting points.

  • while men enforce rules of dress to the women then how about the men??

  • Don't women who wear the full burka still get raped? That's all I'm saying...

  • Islam, the occult of mahammad, the child molester had no place in the island of vanuatu. These people are opening their island for islamic terrorist launch pad in the pacific.

  • this has nothing to do with Islam

    this is christian modesty

  • You mean, men controlling women, don't you? Oh, you should be more worried about these racist imperialist muslim Arabs converting your Island folks to their mind closing occult of islam, cause if more of your vauanu folks convert to the fascist doctrine of islam, there will be no more native vanuatu culture to speak of. Oh, women can wear what they like, men have NO RIGHT to tell women how to dress!

  • It's part of their culture and national identity. It has little to do with religion. If that means wearing an island dress so be it. They look very pretty anyway. There are many places like this, bhutan, japan, and peru where people wear certain clothes as part of their national identity. so they have every right to make them wear those clothes.

  • dam that country looks coool that chick is right people should be able too where whatever they want thats wht a free society is all about

  • Vanuatu is not a free society

  • Are you from Vanuatu? if so, then enligghten me, as to why Vanuatu is not a free society.

  • I'm not from vanuatu and women can NOT wear whatever they like. That is what being part of any organized society is like. vanuatu is a third world country, therefore it is not free.

  • thats is not culture, its oppression and no freedom

Am sure satan loves this country as it looks it belongs to him

G-D gives you freedom and man take it, oh cool

  • YOu are MAD. Who the hell are you to tell women what they can or cannot wear? You must be a muslim nutjob from malaysia or something.

  • Look, they have every right to tell them what to wear, I think those dresses are pretty,

  • @gatheringleaves

Third world has nothing to do with freedom, it has to do with economy and wealth moron.

An organized society? That is what happens when men take women as slaves and dictate what they can and can't do. A dictatorship is in your opinion an organized society. You obviously don't the difference between organized and oppressive.

Killing of the pig is a way to exploit them of their wealth as they have to share the pig. They should kill the pigs like you and their chiefs.

  • Um no, they have every right to dictate how a person should dress. So quit acting so high and mighty, I happen to think those Island Dresses look nice

  • The pastor has a point but i do feel people should be able to wear what they want. And I see that children do the same things they do in church in america which is run around and unable to stay in one spot.

  • ummm.... Well, i don't care how u dress, it's stupid... and people wonder Vanuatu is third world...

  • Only dumb and inconsiderate people like you would think that way...

  • I been in Vanuatu for a month in Port Vila !!

I hope God will grant the happiness and the wealth of the land all Ni-Vanuatu esp the youth who wish to know more of the outside world !! To my fends working for the Esah Corp !! I hope the best !!

  • The people who started singing at the beginning are from the biggest village in vanuatu which is called Mele Village, where I grew up. Tamamere

  • I love it all, thanks for this clip...Vanuatu Island dress or motherhabard is the most colourful and beautiful dresses of all, our national dress and our identity...cut the grab Dennis..you don't look good in pants either, please protect our identity, island dress makes us proud of who we are as women of Vanuatu..LOL

  • man this is a really nice show that you guys have put up in youtube cause it shows how your country has change a lot and it is so nice to see the difference now a days.. well have been to all those places and i jst really love it..

  • Very interesting.Port vila like any other underdeveloped nations will always be welcoming foreign ideas in its conquest to become a developed nation. All we can do is adapt, practice and decide. Its very sad seeing the younger generation all muddled up between 'what was' and 'what is' suitable in vanuatu.

  • This goes to the lady wearing long pants. man u kiaman gud se you no get use long island dress. LOL! Yu yu bon wea, long nara planet? Port Vila i smol tumas fulap man oli save gud yu. yu yu nao wan long ol geta we oli stap kilim laet long green laet. Traem werem island dress blong kaveremap bunbun body blong yu.

  • uhm, board shorts will lead to unwanted preganancy, but your recent predacessors walked around naked.

  • Fuck those hijabi bitches. They are destroying Vanuatu culture.

  • Really proud of my MELANESIAN people... cheers from West Papua
