Truly one of the greatest Renaissance works in existence. First person, intimate text from Christ speaking to his disciples. After he says the "crowd will encircle me," the text then states "you will fly away from me" (vos fugam capietis, 2:30). In a brilliant move by Lasso, the voices repeat 11 iterations of "vos fugam capietis" as the 11 faithful disciples figuratively fly away. Stunning imagery and a fantastic performance by Mr. Skidmore and Ex Cathedra!
Dat is zo mooi. Ik zou het erg graag eens willemnmeezingen, maar hier is geen koor dat zo iets aandurft. Fier erop dat mijn voorvaderen zo'n goede toondichters waren.
fdshkj, Just because you don't understand what makes this music great doesn't mean it "sux" (as you so eloquently put it). Having grown up in a musical family it's hard for me NOT to hear the beauty in this, but I do respect your opinion. I simply ask that you respect the opinion of the other 15,000 people that have listened to this piece and truly enjoy di Lasso's genius.

This video was in my "recommended" section on YouTube, and I clicked on it out of a whim. This is a truly beautiful piece. Lassus is surely the greatest Flemish renaissance composer.
I also have the norton anthology and this is the absolute best recording I have ever found of this piece. It took my breath away the first time I heard it (in history class haha)
Ooo, this is also going in my playlist, thanks for putting this up.

I sang this as part of my high school's women's choir solo and ensamble. I fell in love with it then and I still love it! Thanks for posting it!

The music freaks in the Assemblies of Sisterspure are raving over this most glorious music - inexpressibly beautiful ....
