Hey! Thanks for showing the real Hammer! It turns out to be the only real quad cam Hammer I've seen with original AMG heads instead of M119 swapped ones. Really good stuff! Btw, it's a top quality work on the car as it looks, like it hasn't been restored. Most of the restorations turn out to be non-original because the owners mess up some stuff, because "it's my car and I do what I want"! :P

Before I would build a replicar I would put a 600hp LSX chevy in a 124 coupe and have a much more driviable, useable,reliable and all around better performer. Or I would use a 5.5 ltr 113 engine. Everybody keeps forgetting the Hammer engine was an experiment. A 55 engine is a much better engine for a frankenstine build.

@stevepitbull personally, I have an S124 300TE Wagon and I'm looking on 4.5 L M116 16V (M117 w/ cast iron block) from a W116. The main benefits are a bulletproof cast iron block, relatively short stroke, a manual from W116 can be swapped and I know where to get some serious cams reground for M116/M117 SOHC engine. Also it's fairly cheap because it's forgotten. What's bad: original engine fuel management systems wouldn't work well due to age. My friend owns a G55 - it is good as hell, but costy.

I do apologize after doing some more research on US-spec cars i saw the ads you were talking about (definitely 80's). All the info I have seen about the cars has to do more with the earlier euro cars...i am also curious as to why some US cars did not have the Merc badges removed? AMG's shop were they converted 300e was in california, all the cosmetic changes were dont there while the engine and transmission were sent from germany and the assembly process was completed in the US.At that point when AMG converted the cars they were not yet a division of mercedes so all the mercedes badges and logos had to be removed...i think you will notice the hood ornament is the Mercedes logo! Also amg only built cars in all black and all white! Not Real!!

Plus Hartmut Fehyl acknowledges this car as being the first US built Hammer. This car sits on a lift in one of my shops while my 347 Mustang and 680hp 454 ss pick truck get driven. @Holbrook002 Its hard to figure out because the car was bought with a butchered in mis matched engine from a later Mercedes. After I won the car the owner of the original engine contacted me so I bought it. There was a ton of time to put it back to original.

Its almost there. The wheels spin up to 50 mph. 100mph@ about 3000 rmp so far. Bumped 130 but didn't look at the tack it started to pull real hard at 120.

Steve, Hartmut, Richard and HWA all call the Wagon a Hammer as that's exactly what it is.. A W124 w/ All the same mods as the sedan, only difference being the chassis length.

Owning a Hammer Sedan as well, I understand where you are coming from but when those who were responsible for these cars existence say otherwise, thus I tend to default to them.

@jhodg5ck I spoke to Hartmut a few times during the build. The Hammer nave came from the engine. It was never really clear why the 6.0 124 was dubbed the Hammer but I believe it was because it out performed all of the other chassis with this package.
