This video was created for training purposes, designed to teach therapy dog clas students about when dogs are saying "enough already" & to point out when dogs might *not* be good candidates for therapy work. It is not intended to be an example of what kids should do to dogs, but is a realistic example of what they often do on their own. f.y.i the last dog is 10 years old & has never bitten anyone, nor was going to bite my nieces and nephews. He is not a therapy dog though for obvious reasons.
Oh my goodness, all those calming signals are to defuse a situation they are stressed with. It isnt just eye, ears and lip licking its the rest of the body posture and language and that dog was clearly stressed and unhappy with the children invading it.. never allow or teach a child to lean over a dog or lean on them, its threatening behaviour to the dog, those signals can lead to the the dog snapping and biting the child, esp when whale eye comes into it!
@andreacuthbert I could asee at the end if the dog hadnt of been removed when it was the girl getting bit. That is a terrible example of teaching calming signals and using shildren also.
