That's not just bad driving it's Bloody disgraceful. He should be banned, you should take this to the police and see what they say. He has every right to use the crossing and the car should have stopped until the pedestrian was clear.
iv really had enough at the end of the day cyclists can not go as fast as motorists so its no real shock that motorist are gona be annoyed when you get in they're way please you don't pay the road tax we do so stop acting as if you own the road
The computer in my car, for which I pay VED, states that its average speed is 26 mph: that includes out of town driving. My cycle commute into London is 15 miles and I cover that in < 60 mins. I drove once, it took 90 mins, so I say that cyclists are faster than motorists in urban areas. Like you, I don't pay road tax, it was abolished by Winston Churchill. Remember, that cyclist is a human being with just as much right to use that road as you.
And besides, this particular video is all about an aggressive motorist who cannot abide a pedestrian using a zebra crossing, which is also a right - but nothing to do with cycling!
@stvgllrd So you don't have a bike, you did not see what the video was about, you have not picked up that you no longer pay road tax but VED, or that there are lots of cars with low CO2 or pre-1972 car that pay no VED.
@stvgllrd nothing to do with a cyclist going fast, or even anything to do with the cyclist ata ll in this case. it is someone simply breaking the law- which you CANNOT argue against because that is the truth! just goes to show that idiots like yourself dont actually loo at whats happenng you just assume things because a cyclist is near by.
I'm pretty sure it was to get the pedestrian to move out of the way. I looked all around but couldn't see anything obvious unless it was for me filtering through. Good spot re the car on the left, quite correct but a 3 lane zebra requires a lot of patience to wait until those crossing reach the other side - and there is a danger that others may start before then! ;)
[shrug] Could be, that's why I mentioned it. Still though, he was alongside me when he hit the horn, coincidentally just at the moment when the pedestrian came into his line-of-sight. I was already in the middle lane long before he arrived and you'll note I took a moment to look over my shoulder before moving between the lanes. Needless to say I would not have moved any further right if it wasn't safe to do so. I think it was a fast approach and failure to read the road followed by panic.
Yeah it's a new camera, with sound that I can bear to listen to. :) Still figuring out the best place for it and am going to have to think about how to weatherproof it, so it may not be with me every ride but MelloVELO gave me a handy tip that I might try.

hope you took your video to the police

@pondhall
No, I did not take this video to the police. Given the standard of driving these days, do you really think they would have been interested?
kmcyc 8 months ago
@kmcyc
pity given the clear evidence, they would have been in contact with him or her

@stvgllrd Try learning what 'road tax' actually is for before making a silly comment.
Road tax (VED) is NOT a tax to 'USE the road. It's a tax on emissions!
Council taxes pay for the road repairs, and bicycles don't damage the road as mych as motor vehicles.
Effectively, cyclists (that dont drive) are subsidising your use of the road!
Bicycles are traffic, just like cars, so don't use behind use road tax to hide your bigotry of cyclists and share the road!

My sounds is off so I can't see where it happened. He should have driven more slowly anyhow.

Who was his horn for?
The car on the left technically did a naughty too.

I think it was more likely to be for you, although he was going too fast approaching the crossing.

@drsquirrel0 going over the crossing when there was someone who wouldn't be effected?
thomase1 2 years ago
You're not really allowed to go until the crossing is clear.
Otherwise there wouldn't be any need to stop until the ped was on your half of the road, etc...
Thats why I said "technically" anyway
drsquirrel0 2 years ago
@drsquirrel0 Personally, I would probably have cycled across after the ped had gone, just like the BMW driver did.
thomase1 2 years ago
I tend to wait, or use the period to "get going", specially as I don't sit dead on the line, it would be clear before I even start to cross.
For the sake of a few seconds, better to do it properly imo :)
