WOW. Derek is one of my jazz lecturers at uni, brilliant! He mentioned being in a band in the 70's, but didn't mention how popular they were, this is fantastic!
@Frickwit Really? Ask him if he remembers a starstruck young girl who spent her 14th birthday on his doorstep. One who got into so much trouble for not going home, he had to write to her mum and say sorry it was all his fault! He was my hero way back in 1975! my email treenagreany@yahoo.co.uk if he remembers!
I remember Flintlock in the 1970's when I was a little kid, because my big sister Tricia loved them. She put her tape machine next to the t.v to record them when they came on Top Of The Pops, ahhh happy memories of when all the family were together. : - )
When I lived in Woodford Green in 1979 the guitarist of this lot moved into the house at the top of the same street - I never talked to him though. It's still my claim to fame.
I was 11 when this came out, and I thought it was complete crap. Of course with the benefit of an additional 35 years experience I can now make a much more mature and informed decision about it.
It's still crap. Lightweight pop pap drivel. All the bite of a fucking toothless dog. Horrible.
@WolvoExPunk fuck off there not pricks you just dont like the music i know the lead guitarist he is a really nice bloke i sometimes jam with him dont be a cunt to people you dont know.
@1994AlexJohnson That was back in the 70s. EVen though I still think they're shit, there's a lot worse than them now. I much more hate dance music, hip hop, drum n bass, rave, rap, RnB, boy bands, girl bands, X-Factor etc. Flintlock were shit but at least they played their own instruments.
Flintlock were such a lame group! Like a 70's version of McFly. I was only 8 or 9 at the time and I much preferred the Bay City Rollers, then later on I loved Adam Ant, who will always be my hero.
@DMGOUGH I heard their album (with both the songs you mention) at a friend's house - it actually wasn't too bad! Some cute pop songs and good covers. My friend was absolutely in love with Mike the drummer!
I remember them doing 'Get Down and Get With It' on some after school pops show around 75 time. Very brave of them to even attempt it let alone perform it on TV. Oh the 70s, what a time !!
I wonder if the team remember the chocolate cake I made for them at their record producers offices in St Mary Cray? My sister used to work there and introduced us.
Lets face it, they had 5 minutes of fame ( a lot more than most of us,) but to say they were the teen hearthrobs of their day is just silly! They had one medium sized hit and that was it.
As a kid in the 70's I always thought that there was something missing when I watched this band on TV. Like nothing jumped out to hook me in. It's obvious now to see what was really going on. The lack of balls here is just too hideous for words. Not to say that these lads didn't have a great time, Golden memories for them I'm sure. Unless they're all bitter, bloated, drug & alcohol addicted or dead
I know the singer, he works at a recording studios in bas, his a real legend, down to earth guy and a real gent!! he didnt even tell me he was on top of the pops man, i had to find out through a friend. shows to me his not bigheaded..
They weren't much of a success-can't remember any really big hits. They were on a couple of TV shows 'Paulines Quirks' & 'you must be joking'. Like Child & Rossetta Stone, they were a bit a bit late in the day-even the Bay City Rollers were struggling at this point. Punk & disco was taking over...

I fully agree with all you said,Flintlock were a shite made for tv band who deservedly had no chart success.Drummer Mike Holloway had a reasonably successful acting career appearing in The Tomorrow People amongst other things.
@bondbug73 i remember the drummer(mike holloway) saying that he wanted to get more into the `heavy rock scene`i`m sure they would have blown led zepplin away
Were Flintock a band who were aiming to make a career of popsongs or were they made for the TV program that was made in the 70s as they only had this single in the charts which only got to 30 something.
'hit sensation' ...lol. they got to #30 in england with this song and it was their only hit. forget about the states..fun stuff but don't make it out to be more than it was.
Please don't lump Fox with all the teeny-pop faux glam like this and Kenny. Noosha had a lovely voice, and the first album is a work of art, with lovely melodies and production values ahead of its time.
I remember the show with Paulene Quirk, she tried all the time to get this cheesy bunch of
Male Models to strip naked for her.The Boys were of course appaled as (Quirke is and always has been a fat ugly stinking bitch).Their pathetic load of shit "Sea of Flames" has to be one of "the" worst ever songs, utter utter dross and garbage.
I may be wrong but didn't the drummer used to be in the original Tomorrow People....the kids tv programme where all the characters could "jaunt" by using a specialbelt around their waste...i was about 13 and used to think it was pretty cool lol
Yep Mike played Mike in The Tomorrow People. Flintlock were the resident band on a kids tv show called "You Must Be Joking". Liked them in those days but couldn't stand Derek (playing sax but usually lead singer). Another classic song by them was "Sea Of Flames". They also cover "Mony Mony" and released a single called "Learn To Cry".
just remember Guernseyisland, all that punk you talk about is now played by Terry Wogan on radio 2 (uk). If you remember the advent of punk, you are probably older than you care to admit and any view on what constitutes as good music will be as valid as terry wogans.
And to think punk was just around the corner to finish this kind of crap, just look at the top 30 countdown, we were screaming for change. the pistols, stranglers, buzzcock, the damned, xray specs.....etc put an end to this shit....I am sure flintlock are very nice guys, but the young in 76 were pissed of with nice!
Oh yes and noel edmonds was a boring old twat then, and he still is presenting the most boring show on tv, that fucking open the box bollocks, like watching paint dry.
I remember them very well and they were the nicest guys around and sold out many gigs they made my teen years fun so thanks John Derek Jamie Bill and Mike ,
I remember Flintlock being bad but I'd forgotten just how truly dreadful they were. They were the regular band on "you must be joking" on ITV, which also launched the career of Pauline Quirk.
excuse me flint were not bad they are incredibley nice guys just because you didn't like them I happen to know two of the members of the band and they are the most loveist guys in the world
I did not express an opinion on how nice they are as people, I am sure they are perfectly pleasant guys; but this is possibly the most bland, sugary, dreadful piece of music ever to appear on totp and that includes, clive Dunn, St winnifreds School choir, The goombay Dance Band, Lena martell, and many more.
