  • You can get loads of these public information films including this one at the UK National Archives website. Everything from the 50s to the present day on there including all the old "Charley says" ones. Bring back excellent memories!

  • Meet Dave. He can do anything. Pity he has a tiny penis and cant make me cum !!

  • classic

  • Love this soooo funny

  • Ahh ... I too haven't seen it in over 20 years and remember every word.

Only thing is, that I never used to understand the bit about birds ... I used to think that Dave was speaking aobut the feathered variety :S

  • swimming baths haah

  • Slag

  • little tart

  • That used to be never off the telly. Good seeing it again. :)

  • Then POW! Up pops my fairy godmother.

    LLLLLLLL

  • who is voicing dave? i recognise that voice!!

  • Limey Bloke.

  • damn i feel embarrassed to goto a local swimming pool/club and asking them to learn how to swim. i'm in my 20's and never learned to swim :(

  • Don't worry. I learned to swim at the tender age of 42. I now swim 50 lengths every day.

  • I'm 19 at 18 I started going to just adult lanes. With no goggles and was just swimming breaststroke. I wanted to be able to swim front crawl. I invested into some goggles so my eyes didn't sting and started picking it up quite well reading about what to do. When I was competent enough although still crap started lessons. Its well worth it you learn faster when you're young so I've heard so go go go! Best of luck :)

  • actually i can swim back and forth in deep water very well. its just that i cant stay still or stall in one place without sinking down. so the only way i can survive in deep water is by keep propelling in a certain direction. i just don't know what to do with my feet in order to keep myself afloat in one spot. people tell me to push the water down with my feet, some tell me rotate in a circular motion like a fan, but none of this ever worked for me.

  • I mean this in all good humour. "Meet Mike, he swims like a fish." It actually looks like him too!! Come on you 8 golds!

  • so boring

  • I live in the states and I still repeat that stupid English advert to my kids from back in the 70's... how that got stuck in my mind all these years. Great seeing it again. Now the kids know I wasn't making it up! yeah!

  • this is a brilliant ad, why get so down on mike hes a smart lad leart to swim and good at footy. my names MIKE and im great and can swim. so lay off him, dave cant keep a bird mike can!

  • @lepetamane hey lepetamane - can you fart a tune in water as well? LOL

  • lol thats funny....

  • I never liked Mike

    Dave

  • meet mike, he swims like a fish

looks and smells like one too

  • Thought when I was a kid that Mike was a Jugg eared smarmy git, this confirms it!

  • Thanks for this i LOVED this add!! I always thought it was Dave who could swim like a fish!! Ah well, 25 years and I was always wrong, frigging Mike! lol

  • I thought this commercial or PIF was progressive because I always thought Dave was a black guy. Then it just dawned on me that I had a black and white TV in those days when this PIF shown regulary. This is the first time I'm seeing this in colour.

  • nicee

  • Haven't seen it for years either, but I remember it very well. I'm called Mike and I have always been a good swimmer. My best mate as a kid was Dave. We still use cartoon Mike's "Allo" to this day. Thanks for sharing the video.

  • Thats a good story.

I love the lines: Just not my scene, man.

Learn to swim young man, learn to swim.

  • Yeah me too, i loved that advert..lol and i loved the joe and petunia ones as well..

  • Bugger me, I'm sad. Haven't seen this for over 20 years but I knew it word for word.
