The only thing that is a plus is the abrupt power which is sometimes too excessive for the MX track when you need a smooth consistent punch to stay fast and on all fours. The Honda is really a perfect quad for someone going from a 2-stroke to a 4-stroke but without big $ it's a racer's worst nightmare.

i race harescrambles and im looking into getting a ktm 450 xc. is the ktm going to be the best buy? or should i go with something else? if anybody has raced a harescramble before then you know each race takes your machine through hell and back. im looking for something that will stay together and go strong for racing and trails.
@JOSH2225x I've had problems with mine. I took a year off from racing to play baseball and it has been rebuilt 3 times, even without hard riding. It has never ran as well as it did when it was new so with that said, be careful with this one...

I regrettedly bought one a year ago, biggest waste of $4000 ever. Half of the people I know who own one want to get rid of it. Trust me they are slow, and really outdated. The frame is almost identical to the 1980's Trx250r and the shocks came right off the 400ex. All the parts are cheap and the valves never last long before they have to be adjusted. Don't waste your money, buy a Kfx450r or Ktm450xc for the trails, the Suzuki is too wide.
@imthebestofthegreat doesn't really matter what you do to it. the honda is still the honda at the end of the day. you still get a carburetor, bad frame and SOHC. and you would save a lot of money in mods by buying a better quad.

I had these two racers beat on the MX track up until a section of rollers where both of them made up the 20 seconds cause my bike cut out each time I hit one. They came up to me afterwards and said I should've beat them but my bike was holding me back. They knew it, I knew it. @JOSH2225x. the kfx 450r is an awesome trail/harescramble quad. it has reverse without slacking off any power in the 450 class. there the only 450 with reverse.
the xc handle more hours than the sx between rebuilds, and is less wide than an sx, but totally different powerbands. unless your racing mx, go xc. even if your amature mx, go xc... imo.
the 450sx has a dohc motor compared to sohc motor on the xc. the sx has more hp, wider stance and a long list of extras. if u dont race mx i would not get the sx. save the money and get the xc. i have both and the xc is much better for ridin.
I would want the quad for kind of enduro rough ground is it ok to go through water with the quad? can i ask you as well why would the sx be more expensive if the xc is better as it has a reverse gear and one final question is this quad realible i say so as my exc 125 bike is fantastic.

okay i didnt say it was the fastest. and in racing its a 450 class so on the track the 450 will whip the 525s because of cornering differences between the bikes and weight differences.
there is no difference between the bikes. One is boared a little more. The 525 is 95, 450 is 89. This came from a friend that ows 2 KTM dealers. Only 15 pound difference, so cornering is the same
not completely, the 450 is lower to the ground and the 525 sets a little higher. it really dosent matter, but the 450 belongs on the track and the 525 can be a track and mostly a trail bike.
The 525 is more of a trail bike and the 450sx is a race bike. im not going to argue further. i love KTM and all their models of quads and dirtbikes. the 525 is geared a little different from the 450 also. the 525 has slightly more powerful bottom end. but the power band is very strong. so it rides it out in every gear all the way to top end with great hp. so does the 450.

KTM come with Maxxis Razr tyres, Renthal fat bars, Brembo brakes, magura hydraulic clutch, billet clutch components, a large open air box, wide A-arms, ohlins suspension removable "cut down" look front mud guards and it's the lightest 450/525 quad in exception for the DS450. I used to own a Polaris. It was fun but certainly not up to the standards of KTM's ATV's
Polaris are so much heavier and worse handling than KTM. KTM have better suspension, brakes, tyres, rims, controls, A-arms, etc. Polaris are cheap and not well thought out. They are good for a bit of fun but no good for racing

the sx is built wider and slightly longer (but u cant tell rly) and its meant for tight racing tracks and the xc is shorter and and more compact. they are basically the same same cc's almost same weight but i like the sx better just cuz i like racing more
Awesome KTM! One question, does that have a hand clutch? I dont know what they mean on the spec sheet. It says, 5-speed XC semi-close-ratio + reverse. Can anyone help me?
Close ratio has to do with the gearing not the clutch. The new KTM quads have a new unique clutch system. You sit up off the seat to engage the clutch, then sit back down to disengage it. Pretty revolutionary...........HAHA

Dude, thank you. I've been bitching about that forever. anytime there is a vid of a 450 getting beat by a raptor, or predator, or something else, everyone crys, "put it on the track". Seeing as how the majority of 450 race quads will never see the track, it got beat fair and square. It is retarted. people buy quads because someone builds them up, practices constantly, and wins races on the quad, not due to what their riding needs are.

they are the VERY same bike , only cylinder/piston change and the pilot jet in the carb is 2 point bigger (40 for 450xc and 42 for 525 xc)

the sx is built wider and slightly longer (but u cant tell rly) and its meant for tight racing tracks and the xc is shorter and and more compact. they are basically the same same cc's almost same weight but i like the sx better just cuz i like racing more

Awesome KTM! One question, does that have a hand clutch? I dont know what they mean on the spec sheet. It says, 5-speed XC semi-close-ratio + reverse. Can anyone help me?

Close ratio has to do with the gearing not the clutch. The new KTM quads have a new unique clutch system. You sit up off the seat to engage the clutch, then sit back down to disengage it. Pretty revolutionary...........HAHA

Yeah thats what I thought. My friends must be dumbasses then. They claim they seen one and looked at it. Its a hydraulic clutch, so it looks like a brake cable.

Dude, thank you. I've been bitching about that forever. anytime there is a vid of a 450 getting beat by a raptor, or predator, or something else, everyone crys, "put it on the track". Seeing as how the majority of 450 race quads will never see the track, it got beat fair and square. It is retarted. people buy quads because someone builds them up, practices constantly, and wins races on the quad, not due to what their riding needs are.

KTM are known for not lasting long..Im not dissin dont get me wrong,killer bikes, but just dont have the miles/ HRS to live..Better buy something Jap or put a smashed up Enduro Jap engine in it and your set.
