Just because one Canadian teamed up with 2 Brits to initially start the show, doesn't make it Canadian. After 40+ years of being made in Britain, by Brits, and aired mainly for Brits (if you look at airing times, Britain gets the eps first)... I think it's safe to say it's British.

Tough question. It is a very un-American (because it is british) sci-fi series that focusses on the human side of things. It always comes down to "The love of the doctor for these amazing humans."

Standard carnage, gadgets that almost always work...or not. Time travel. Dimensions. Weird aliens and often darn original plots with very nice twists.

The all-guns-blazing aspect is part of RTDs vision of what Doctor Who is. The classic Who, (all 7 incarnations) were never the first to solve problems with force or violence. The genius of the original theme was that it was just so god-damned weird sounding (it STILL sounds weird because they didn't really use "instruments", they used what could only be called "sound effects" to create it).

And all they've done since is make it more and more conventional-sounding, which is the antithesis of what it should be.

It sounded unlike anything you'd ever heard. It sounded ALIEN.

And that was the whole point.

Exactly. I rather hate it when theme songs are changed. And though I get used to most, this one I doubt I'll get used to. I have enough strangely strewn together SFX songs already, I don't need the one actually appropriate sounding theme song to turn into one of them. The old theme was much more Doctoresque.
