  • @gogoteca- chill ive been practicing using OLLs and PLLs it takes me longer than my usual it takes practice to get faster! just practice harder!! and what cube do u use?

  • Hey, badmephisto. Could you list all of the songs in this video? Some of them would be great to listen to while cubing. I am new to the world of speedcubing and am finding your videos to be very helpful. I have a lot to learn but am willing to put the time in. Thanks for all of the helpful instruction!

Do you go to the Canadian Speed Cubing events? I plan to attend my first in Toronto next month.

  • i dont use OLLs or PLLs my average is around 40 sec :D need to learn them!! :/

  • @POSEIDONGODMETALLICA You make me feel stupid. That's my avg with PLL.

  • i learned when i was 5th grade..and stopped cubing when i was 6th and 7th grade and continued 8th grade.

5th grade: Begginer Method, average 58

    continued this august 2011

    8th grade: F2L,full-OLL,full-PLL, average 14 sec

    thanks to you!

  • I started learning how to solve the rubiks cube about 5 days ago. Now i make the white cross on the bottom, f2l is done in 30 secs and i know 2 look oll and 2 look pll. average is 1 min 10 secs and fastest is 59 seconds. Is this good progress or average? My chokes are manly because of turning problems, i just miss the sides i wanna turn. I think i need some practice on that before learning full pll and oll? Or first learn them and then focus on turning speed?

  • whats the first song?

  • So.. where did you learn your ever-changing methods?

  • lol, the youtube music category recommended this video to me

  • Im 12, cubing since 11, cross on botton, f2l, 2look oll plus some, 2-look pll minus one. AVG: 28.47

    Best: 13.54

    Wootage.

  • @rosscoboy86 Dude my personal best is 28.61! I thought it was 28.67, almost the same! :)

  • Been cubing for about 6 months now. I think...Ave 1 min >.< I learn 3 algorithms a week...I know... super slow, but your vids have been extremely helpful.

16/21 plls and a few oll's. Namely those from the 2 look. Need to really work on that F2L and bottom cross.

    Thanks.

  • song at 00:42??

  • @djclean12 The Bucketheads - The Bomb. I like that song :-)

  • Comment removed

  • Or the original by Chicago - Street Player.

  • thx meph for the help im almost as good as you. great vids, keep it up.

  • my average is 42.72 an pb 18.72 ive been cubing for 3 weeks

  • wow i've been cubing for almost 2 years and i only average 40 seconds :P

  • Thanks a lot for all your tutorials! They are great and easy to follow along to. I have been cubing for about one year, but I had a long beak (4-6 Months) and plus I thought I couldn't get any quicker (1-1.5 Minutes) using the beginner method, but I was referred to you in one of Fazrulz1's videos and I have been steadily improving since. I have just bought an Ultimate Lubix Guhong and I am so excited to get it so I can continue watching your videos!

    Many Thanks,

    Rhys

  • it took me 3-4 days to learn all olls :p

  • Lol i wish i Can learn all OLL's

  • That's seriously fast progression compared to me. I've been cubing for like 3-4 years and just recently got a solve [just] under 30 seconds. I was mostly held back by being intimidated about memorizing so many algorithms, and did not know until very recently that I didn't need to know all of OLL and PLL in order to use them to solve with big improvement to times over the beginner method for the last layer. I also have taken a lot of long breaks on cubing since I started.

  • My new current average is ~35 sec, I practice f2l every day and it seems to be getting easier to look ahead. I did an average of 10 solves and I had two outliers of like 45 sec but the rest were between 30 sec and 35 sec. I know all the olls for when you have a cross, and I'm sure there are olls out there that do not need the top cross. I know roughly 1/3 of the plls and was wondering if I should now learn all plls. Please let me know, thanks.

  • @Drewerd615 yea learn all the plls and then learn oll theres 21 plls and 57 olls

  • i though that you were going to solve it riding a roller coaster

  • I've been cubing for like a month now. I started out with Dan Brown's beginner method and moved away from it, now I use fridrich f2l, I have all olls memorized, and all the plls required to solve the cube, but there are more complex plls I haven't learned yet. My oll is fairly quick, my pll needs a little work, and my f2l needs a lot of help. Will f2l come with time? I find it hard to look ahead and I've watched all your videos on how to improve f2l. My average is like 1:15. :(

  • badmephisto, can I ask?? What brand of the cube you got??

  • I started in november 09, and im just now crossing the sub20 barrier. but before i do im learning color neutral, which takes a good amount of time. im hoping by christmas ill be sub20 CN

  • 0:41 what do you mean by OLL/PLL cross on top?

  • 3:06

    Zawmygoodness cheater! :D

  • @AwdioSurfer what did he do to cheat?

  • @darthvaderyoda He pressed space before he finished the cube lol

  • @AwdioSurfer He was scrambling the cube, he pressed space to start the timer.

  • @darthvaderyoda I didn't know you scramble the cube backwards

    I meant 3:03 but I accidentally added 3 seconds

He obviously solves it and pressed the space before he finishes, which is okay and funny and therefore the reason I added the ":D" at the end of my statement.

  • @AwdioSurfer oh, but it was just a U turn, it sdoesnt matter that much

  • @darthvaderyoda I know, I was just joking, hence the ":D"

  • this is inspiring :p

  • @MrMuhammad11

    yes...

  • you and the interesting idea of becoming color neutral and then good cross on original color amazing look ahead gets ma time of 19.75 and i average 30 seconds.... wtf?

  • Your timeline is very similar to that of mine.

I also hope to become a computer engineer or programmer just like you. We have a lot in common except for the fact that I am in tenth grade.

  • I love this video, and to be quite honest your times based on the algorithms you learned is very similar to that of mine.

  • Wow...this encourages me. I used to think that you were born holding a cube...but you used to be slow like I am. I've been cubing for maybe 3 weeks--a month and have an average of about 1:25 secs. I couldn't do this without your tutorials and guides. Thank you!! ("In The Mood" FTW!!!!)

  • Your videos are great. I hope you make some new ones soon!

  • u started cubing 3 yrs and 1 day ago badmephisto!

  • Badmephisto, great vids. 95% of you vids that I watch I rate 5/5 stars. The others I forget to rate since i practice what i learnt from it =P

Anyhow, Ive been cubing with my rubiks brand cube for about 4 weeks, and my average is 55 seconds with F2L, 2 look PLL, and a few more than 2 look OLLs thanks to you

    thank you =)

  • badmephisto. i aprreciate all of your videos. I started cubing around 1.5 mnths ago and now i use f2l and 2 look oll and some plls thanks to your videos im averaging 40secs

  • hey badmephisto, just wanted to know how old are you when you started cubing?and now how old are you now?

  • @Kakashiser I was... 20 or something. Im 23 now

  • @badmephisto your old ;P jks

  • hey meph whats the musicization for this vid?? :) If you could reply, thanks!

  • I remember playing that first song somewhere in jazz band! It's so awesome! What's it called?

  • In the mood

  • Memorizing all the OLL's will make my cubing faster, isn't it?? I use 2 look OLL and Single PLL. Nice video by the way.

  • OMG MAN in 1 week i averaged 1.50 mins :)

is tht gd? and now im not learning OLL PLL but i kno F2L im gonan first learn 6x6 7x7 then ill go back ( i alrdy learnt 4x4 and 5x5)

  • what is the first song?

  • I have been doing the rubix cube for about 1/2 month's. My average is 46 seconds, record 23. i do cross usually on bottom, learning f2l, 2look oll and 2look pll. Im planing on learning full olls soon. Should I learn full oll or pll first?

  • @TalkingWithMyCola learn PLLs first, theres only 21 of them, then do OLLs

  • ok thanks

  • my cross takes too long though, i have to do it on top and it takes like 15 seconds :(

  • 43 days of cubing.... cross on bottom(sometimes made on top=P) 1/3 olls, 15/21 pll's, f2l, and avg. of abt 40 sec. my record is 26 seconds

  • @funnyllama20 is that a lucky 26? :P

  • no not rly...i sometimes get likt 27's and like aroung taht but when i dont try its around 40's

  • @funnyllama20 nice i still suck with avg of 1;00 and still using 2 look OLL and PLL

  • do slow solves with look ahead on fredrich ( if that is what you use) so while you are doing one pair your finding next

  • dude thx i mite try that that mite help

  • @funnyllama20 improve ur f2l

  • lol it took me 1 week to get 1.5 minutes and just now... 3 months later i am breaking the 1 minute barrier lol its caz i took a break from cubing for a while

  • yo how old are you though ive always wondered it doesnt say in any of ur vids

  • I can't even solve it at all

  • 2:59, you use 2 look OLL, even though you say you know full.

  • f R U R'U' f' is one of the oll's

  • yes, but he does F R U R' U' F', then another cross alg.

  • 2:57 i mean. turns one case into another

  • atleast i dont feel so noob after watching this.

    cause i've been cubing for 2month and i tot i'm a "slower"~ lol

  • I am cubing for 3 months with fridrich, my average is 30 seconds using 1/3 OLLs and 16/21 of PLLs cross on bottom

  • I'm have an average of ~75 sec.

  • Badmephisto, do you think I am too young to get an average of around 30 seconds? I'm 11 years old, I use:

Cross (on top) - Basic f2l - 2look OLL - 2look PLL. I'm trying to learn full f2l but I have problems remembering the algorithms.

My personal best is 39 seconds. But I average around 50 seconds.

  • your never too young to learn an advanced method. i'm 13 and i average around 35 seconds. i solve the cross on the bottom, use f2l with no algorithms and then use 2-look oll and pll for the last layer. just keep practicing and maybe you will become the fastest and youngest cuber in the world. you never know.

  • theres a five or six year old girl that averages 16 seconds shes insane

  • damm. thats crazy. that is so hard to believe tho. but i will still believe you. when i was six i didnt even know wat a rubiks cube was!

  • Ok i am by no means a master but i average 20 seconds so here we go:

What you should learn first: Learn full pll then very slowly learn oll but not that important yet. also practice intuitive f2l. Solve the cube halfspeed so u can learn to look ahead. hope this helps

  • Started learning full PLL yesterday, before I read that comment :D

  • @Quarosi there is no age limit to this

  • I like all your videos! I've learned how to solve a rubik's cube thanks to you! Also, I always wondered, what's your nationality??

  • Originally from Slovakia but he moved to Canada :D

  • 1:00 i am at this "stage" right now

  • i started learning fridrich method a week ago and now i am averaging 55 seconds. I do cross, intuitive F2L, 2 look OLL, and 2 Look PLL

my PB is 37.2 seconds achieved yesterday :D! your vids are da best! hoping to learn full pll and oll soon and improve my F2L and cross.

  • Sweet!

Who knew Mortal Kombat and speedcubing couild combine so well!?

  • Comment removed

  • lol, MORTAL KOMBAT on last solves^^

  • i don't think i progressed quite as fast as you did. since october, i am now at about 19 seconds.

  • right now i'm doing my best at cross on bottom, slow f2l recognition, 2-look oll and have 14 of the pll's memorized, i'm learning slowly, but i'm still pretty fast at 29.07 average

  • i love this song my school band plays the song in the mood it is awesome

  • Wow. I must be progressing really slow. Been a long time and I've only just started learning some of the plls most of the olls. I average around 35 sec though.=O

  • as of tomorrow ive been cubing for 2 weeks.. i am already doing intuitive f2l, 2 look OLL and am half way through memorizing 2 look PLL.. obviously i cant check my averages until i get 2 PLL down but using f2l and the beginner stuff i was solving at 120-140. would that mean im learning fast compared to most people?

  • means ur rushing yourself. need to slow down. cubing is a slow process

  • just dont over do the amount of algs you learn in a day you will just forget them easier

  • oh i progressed really slowly compared to other cubers out there. I used a retarded beginners method. In fact, the person that made that method should be shot. no jokes

  • Then I should be shot because I haven't learned the fridrich method yet and I started like 5 months ago or more :O

  • How much did you practice a day/learn algo's? A lot of the day or???

  • @badmephisto which one? and whats the second song?

  • @badmephisto dan brown?

  • AWESOME!

And thanks for your videos, btw. They've really helped me alot. I'm still kind of slow, but I started like <1 month ago, so i could have been a lot slower if it wouldn't have been for your vids! Keep up the good work, and good luck with improving your speed :)

  • see the thing is, maybe if you DIDN'T watch my videos, you would be like 30 second average by now... how could you tell if that is not plausible? :)

  • its good to see that you've started small too ;)

  • f2l oll and pll are needed for fast cubing!

  • Can anyone help me?

I use the method from Rubik's website and I use fingertricks sometimes.

    PB - 1: 1.69

I'm trying to get under a minute.

Any tips or videos that could help?

And also, what are PLL's and OLL's?

  • pll= permutation of the last layer (algorithms)

oll= orientation of the last layer (algorithms)

  • mate this is sick i have 2look oll and dont know every pll and my avg is 25 sec :| and when u know all of them uve got 25 sec too so im not really motivated to lern all oll's and pll's xD

  • Comment removed

  • Hahah, it looks like fast forward when he's solving it

what the song in the end?

  • it's the theme song for "Mortal Kombat"

  • wouw, nice vid - very original.

does anybody know the 2nd song? (:

  • i freaking love this song our jazz band plays it lol

  • This video is awesome man! I started the day after christmas (4 months ago) and im averaging 40 seconds right now.

  • now 16 seconds for him

  • how long have you been cubing for, do you no all f2l?

  • Has he learnt F2L, I do intuitive. Are there algs for it?!

  • are you asking me if their any algs for intuitive f2l ? :)

  • I obviously misunderstood you. You can do you know all F2L, I thought you meant has he learnt all algorithms. I was like *wtf there are algs for F2L*

  • there are algs for f2l :) if i am totaly misunderstanding you please let me know ;)

  • I found algs for F2L on cubewhiz but when I replied to your comment I didn't know about algorithms for it.

  • ohhhhhhh ok not many people bother learning all the algorithms for the f2l most of the best cuber's use a mix with algorithms and intuitive what i mean is they learn some cases of the f2l that are easily spotted because a lot of people say that recognising the algorithm needed to solve the f2l case takes longer then intuitive i would stick to intuitive and learn some of the basic cases of f2l

  • you inspired me... serial...

  • that 19.28 was a plus 2 :P

  • we are riding the same exponent lol.. my first solve was on xmas at 3min 6sec... now im about a week over 2 months and my solves range from like 31s to 52s.. its messed up but im gettin better lol...

cuz of school though i dont have as much time as i wish to learn all the plls and olls but over the summer i should get my solves at least at a constant sub 30 average

  • Wow... Are we the same person? Except my first solve was on a bus in China, 2 years ago... My own method =)

I finally have 32~49 (as long as I don't have an F2L mess up) my worst being 1:00.7 (avg 36)

    Go us!

  • well ive never solved the cube with my own method lol.. after 6 hours i just had to learn ha

and i just now broke a solid sub 40 average so it seems that we are indeed close in solving skills lol

  • Yes, very close, I want to make a video, but the first half will have to be a "remake, simulated" where I'll have to pretend I don't know what I'm doing XD

  • whats the second song?

  • The Bucketheads - Da Bomb.

."This sounds twirling into my mind..."haha,love the song.

  • you should make like a part 2

ive learned from you the blindfold one hand and the oll on your page

    thanks

  • I like this video. I am around the low 20's depending on various factors. Would it be possible to make a video about recognizing the OLL's? I know all of your 57(printed, cut, glued, and laminated them into two sided flash cards...best thing ever!) I seem to learn the best from you and I need to improve my last layer to get below 20...Hope to get a response, thanks a bunch!

  • just curious but how fast is your F2L?

  • The first time I held a cube was 14 months ago and have been hooked ever since. My solves are about like this once warmed up...

    Cross-2-3 seconds

F2L-10-13 seconds (i'm not sure wether this is good, avarage, or bad)

    OLL-2-3 seconds

PLL 2-3 seconds So...what are your times like?

  • i avg around 25-30sec. i think whats really slowing down is my F2L, i so need to improve on that =/

  • My biggest advice is to slow down and show yourself what your doing. Once you figure out a solution for one case, performe it over and over to get it into muscle memory because that is how you look ahead as you solve F2L. I'm am sure you have seen some peoples one step stop videos. Once you have figured out how you are going to solve cases, you basicaly do the one step stop thing. I point and talk to myself and say what I see, why and what i'm doing, and what I will do next!!

  • just wondering but do u use empty slots and/or those advance F2L techs like multislotting?

  • First of all, this is pretty cool having this conversation by text comments...all in one afternoon! I've never had someone respond this fast!...anyway, I don't do multisloting. I don't do any super fancy algorithms with empty slots to sove other slots. I might be doing it for some cases, but nothing fancy or complicated. For example, none of my white cross pieces in the bottom layer ever get into the top during my F2L. I also can't do extended cross-too complicated.

  • i know right xD

  • If you ever have any questions or comments, leave me a comment and I will love to respond!

  • 16 to 29? that seems rather too fast.

  • what was this comment directed to, just curious?

  • you need to update this with current solves :D

I never saw this one before (decided to look through everything you have now).

With your 2L OLL/PLL vids and basic F2L I get around 40-50secs (you were slower with those, hehe). I feel good now woot! (Just need to get faster F2L recognition).

  • this vid pushes me to learn the rest of the oll's. I have about 35 of them down but i need to rest. I wish i had your site in the beggining so i could have learned the ones you use instead of bobs.

  • wow.. i cant even get f2l under 30 seconds.. thats amazing

  • Brilliant! I'm waiting for the continue :)

  • Wow, compare your H perm NOW, to what it was before holy shiznat lol the vids very inspirational

  • *knows I'm giving out ideas like crazy, but there's nothing to lose suggesting, except self-esteem :(... yeah*

What about a theoretical average? I saw a thread about it on the forums, and it'd be nice to see more of those.

  • If you can do an average of 12 (or at least 5) with consistent Sub-15 solves, do a sequel?

  • you really practiced a lot. . . .

  • hah! ive been cubing for about a month and im faster than your begginers method time using the begginers method that you made!

  • oh absolutely. I was using the MOST retarded beginners method. I want to punch in the nuts the retard that made it. Back then of course, I had no idea what was easy or not easy, right or wrong, and there were also no tutorials on this that were easily found, like they are now.

  • well i guess thank you for stopping me from using a retarted method by making yours XD

  • lol

  • ive been cubing for about 2 years, and my averages are around a minute using the beginners method. i never really got serious, but just recently ive been watching a lot of this guys vids, and im hoping ill be able to boost my times. i dont plan on learning either the full pll or the full oll, though. way too much work

  • trsut me you will think those times are terrible after couple days when you start hitting under 30 seeconds. Its not gonna be too hard getting under 30 seconds if you can do your F2L quick.badmephisto's videos helped me a lot. Watch them.

  • Just learn them slow and steady, Full PLL is not too much work, except for maybe those G's :P

You don't have to learn all of the OLLs to be good. Start with 2-Look OLL and PLL, then learn full PLL and perfect your F2L and cross. Then just start learning OLLs whenever, 1 a day maybe?

  • I'm at one month with intermediate F2L and two-look OLL & PLL, but I'm stuck at 1:05.78 until I get my DIY cube(s), I'm a lot slower than I could be though, I need to improve my look-ahead, I have trouble finding certain cubies when I'm looking for them =P

I'm solving the first cross in fewer moves now as well, and once I get my DIY cube I should shoot under a minute.

  • I average around 30 seconds now (thanks to your videos). I know 17 PLLs (I can't bring myself to start learning the G cases) and something like 15 OLLs, and I just started learning the 8 ZBF2L cases.

Do you think ZBF2L will cut down my time that much, or am I better off just learning more OLLs?

  • I started learning full PLL 2 Days ago and I have just learnt about half of the algs

  • thats not a good idea.... learn like 2-3 algs a day and you're a lot faster in the long run...

  • I've been cubing for about 2 months and my AVG is close to 40s ((10 of 12: 42s) (3 of 5: 40s))

How might the journey go on?

  • we had the same journey since start but i just stopped at an average of 30..

i didnt learned all oll :P

  • ***** What's a 2 look Oll?? what does one look/ 2 look mean???

  • I don't have time to explain but I saw your comment and so search his videos.

  • I've been cubing for three months and I am averaging 30s I am using DIY type E also known as Dian Sheng Cube(DS Cube)Using Fridrich method

  • holy crap did u cube like everyday in those 3 months? ive been cubing for a round almost 2 years or over 1 year and im avrge 40 :P

  • I cube everyday :)

  • if ur really used to the tightness of ur normal store bought rubiks cube should u get a diy anyway or would it kinda mess u up

  • I have a rubik's from Wal-Mart, but I still want a DIY cube because it MUCH faster. It shouldn't be all that hard to adjust, and even it was, it's worth it to improve times dramatically.

  • true that rubik's is stiff, if it's like fresh out of box, but after maybe 2 weeks playing with it, you can get it to move alright. Then if u lube that shit up... now we're talking !!! XD

  • I've been cubing for 5 months and im averaging 40s. I started off 17mins (Yea i know thats long) cos i kept screwing up on the beginners method. Now, i just started learning fridrich and only know very less PLLs and OLLs. Anytips to learn them faster?

  • Learn your 2-look OLL's and 2-look PLLs on his website.

And learn 1 or 2 OLL's each day, keep practicing them. Same for PLL's. He gives tips on memorization.

  • i only know 8 olls and 12 plls. i guess i would go to his webbie now. thanks!

  • no problem ;)

  • now 1.02 lol

  • hey it's been only 2 weeks i started and my average is already 1.05Min . is that good? my best time is 52 seconds no luck no skip? please respond i feel bad lol

  • Can't tell if that's good progress because it mostly depends on how much you've been practicing, but I would still say that almost a minute after 2 weeks great progress (beginner's method?)

  • i learnt around 50 olls in a day

    :)

the iother 7 are the very confusing ones and i dont no all the 50 olls which i learnt that well but i can perform them in around 4 secs each
