  • My brand-new husband and I saw this movie in Chicago in 1960 and loved the music. This should have been a bigger hit then.

  • Great stuff, but I miss watching dat girl walkin' down the sidewalk!

  • I was starting university when this one hit. Couldn't ever find this version, but did get what I recollect was the sound track version, probably by the MGM Orchestra. Their effort was not even close to as good as this one. I was really excited to hear the vocal introduction to this song because it meant I now have access to the one I wanted all along, (and I have searched several potential sources prior to this).

Made my day! Thanks for putting it up.

  • this song came out halloween 1960 which it should have its odd

  • Liked the movie as a kid and for years couldn't find anyone who knew if this was available on vinyl.

Susan Harrison's character's name in the movie was Ruby, also called Ruby Duby by co-star Joby Baker.

Unapologetically raunchy and therefore very `boss' as we said in the early `60's.

I'd buy it for the label alone.

    Thanks for posting.

  • mean sax too

  • Oh my gosh, I had this 45 as a 6 year old kid. (Same as seen above) I used to play it on my portable phonograph. I accidentally left the phonograph on overnight with the 45 still on the turntable. The next day, because of the heat from being left on, it curled my 45 like a row of waves; it was ruined. How nice to hear this again! Very cool!!

  • According to Tobin Matthews himself, he is not on this recording at all, and the name Tobin Mathews came from the first and middle name of the son of Chief records' owner. When this record started becoming popular, the label owner convinced Tobin to go out and promote this record and he would then record Tobin as a vocalist under the name, he was true to his promise. Check out youtube user usarecord for more info on Tobin as well as a blog Tobin writes on.

  • Tobin Mathews & Co. --- Ruby Duby Du is a great song, with no current radio airplay. I was not around when it charted back on Billboard 10/31/1960. Can not go wrong having this in your play list. Thanks for the post!

  • i'd like to see apost of"susan" by tobin

  • You should see the picture cover for this record at Imeem-com. Search photos by this name. You can save it, and maybe you can redo this post using it.

  • Thanks for the tip. I checked it out and it is a good looking sleeve. However I looked over my edit options and don't see anyway to replace the picture without re-doing the video and starting over, thus losing all the view and comment data. I'm kind of a novice at this You Tube stuff.

  • Imeem has now eliminated the photo and video features.

    geosilver channel is also closed.

But I still have some music there as George Silver.

  • Your welcome and thanks for sharing your story.

  • Thank you! I have not heard this song in over 45 years. It was the first song I learned to play on the guitar. I was in the navy at the time and playing the song helped wile away the hours.

  • Your welcome and I'm glad that it brought back some good memories for you.

  • Thanks for putting this up! As a 12 year old kid I watched the movie Key Witness all week long on the Million Dollar Movie, WOR in New York. This song was such an integral part of the movie - just loved it as it set the tone for the impending action. I think the character who said "Ruby Duby.." was named Muggles. Cool cat too - and a cool cast... Jeff Hunter, Pat Crowley, Dennis Hopper, Corey Allen, and Johnny "I Can See Clearly Now" Nash. Wow!!!
