Boris Vian was a very great poet and trumpet player. But concerning his "anti-war spirit", I'd say that freedom has never been defended by the likes of him using only speeches, but by fighting patriots: soldiers and partisans, men and women, young and old, willing to defend their country.
And Brise, just what are the likes of you doing to "defend" your country?
"the likes of him", what arrogance. What do you know about him? In fact, he graduated from the top French engineering school, called "Centrale". How many American engineers can write great songs?
As was mentioned, he was against the colonial war. It wasn't about WWII for example.
I just support those who (have) defend(ed) my country. And what about u?
I don't mean that Vian was against the defensive attitude during WW2, but I'm just tired of the hippy-like anti-soldier cra**y speech, defended by too many people who usurp words used by Vian in his songs and poems.
"The likes of him":I admit that sentence was overshooting, I've made a too rough and too quick answer.
P.S.:I'm sorry for the rudeness in my 1st comment.

I would also like to add, that those who appreciate this song should also look up songs by Pete Seeger, Phil Ochs, and Tom Paxton.
