As I've heard from some engineers talking on NPR radio is that the cost of the disaster will conservatively be 200 billion, all that due to the reconstruction of all the infrastructure, economic stall and health and logistics costs. That is, if the nuclear situation currently undergoing doesn't cause further complications.

Had comedians like Gilbert Gottfried, or any celeb, made similar jokes about Haitians in the wake of their earthquake they would be excoriated. But racist attacks about blacks have long ago been condemned and considered un-P.C. Sadly, that's not the case when it comes to the Japanese or Asians in general. Yukio Mishima was well known to be a homosexual, I find it hard to believe that Ishihara would get along with him; but I guess that doesn't really matter.
Ishihara also advocates the construction of nuclear arms; in order to defend against the neighboring nuclear armed countries(Russia, N Korea, China). I'm not a Japanese citizen, so I don't have the right to criticize.
