Unbelievable, wonderful - since 28 years this is the best song when being and feeling in solitude. Yes, this is the stuff dreams are made of! I dedicate this melody to you...
@Tripp426 No the Cure sound more like the Chameleons, and their sound is original crosses many genres of style and musicianship. The Cure are in a category of their own.
Grande chameleons.
ibelieveicansoar, Yeah, I know what you mean. The Smiths, The Chameleons, Sad Lovers and Giants, all gave us timeless music that takes us back to a time, or a place, or to that special someone. Music that could play endlessly in our souls.
@ScooterCoy 1983 on Script of the Bridge, but it had been kicking about as early as 1982. Dreams in Celluloid is an earlier version from before Mark overhauled the lyrics to take a different, darker meaning.
@JoyDivisiongirl Yep.......i have the same problem. Can't seem to decide between this or Less Than Human or Don't Fall or.........?????????? I just love them.Thank the gods for ManchesterLancs.

sin duda chameleons junto the sound deberian estar en todos los posters de los adolescentes de los 80 a los MM,but live in this comunity, thanks lonegan.hay unas grabaciones tipo peel sessions de horrible calidad, pero son ellos.aguante manchester
I love that hollow sounding guitar riff, gives me fricken goose-bumps. One of the more haunting Chameleons tracks and I think that's saying something.
I have to cry every time when I hear this song. I heard it at my holidays last year with my father again and again. Three months later he died. I always must imagine that he might felt this way it is described in this song, the evening he died. It comforts me, thinking hes still there "floathing on air", watching me and my mother.
The best band ever IMO...but hey, I grew up to their sound since 1982 - the gigs, the albums, the people who followed them, the highs, the lows. This song still holds so much emotion and passion. I'm glad there are people out there that connect to this wonderful music! Cheers all! Bracknell pete.
so many many memories when i listen to them...especially great times with my friends driving around in the car...this blasting..doing some acid..smoking a joint...just good good times...very nostalgic music for me...so bloody good!!!
@JoyDivisiongirl Sorry, but do you really have to attach such a beautiful song to your drugging/partying memories? It doesn't seem fitting at all. In fact it doesn't even seem like a "social" song, but rather a song you absorb in solitude. Just saying.
@xreddragonx And to be more blunt, people who talk about their drug using experiences always come across as bragging show offs anyway. It's unneeded here, it's unneeded almost anywhere. I don't see the point.
@xreddragonx it can be..and still is a beautiful song...whether my friends and i were high or not...and,actually,i did and still do listen to them alone..but it was my best friend who introduced me to them and we shared many many amazing times together, drugs or not...and the music made us even closer..that is the power of the music...have you not shared this music with your friends and created beautiful memories together...if not,you should try it.it will bring you that much closer.
The bands entire Catalogue is fantastic.! Mark Burgess is a great writer. Both Fielding and Smithies are wonderful guitarists. Too bad Fielding has a personality disorder.
I had never heard of Jesus On Extasy. Their version grows and grows on you. Thanks for the introduction to a new band for me and one I really like. I will listen to more, try more Chameleons, you will neve be the same again !
yeah I have been listening to a lot of Chameleons :)
I think im going to say I like the original better, but I also like the JoE version a lot, and was also the first JoE song I heard, not knowing it was a cover then.
I remember logging on to a Chameloens site 18 months ago and it had their songs lyrics and some of the explanations.
However, whatever this song means to you is the real meaning. To me its the realisation that time doesnt go backwards, past happy times and loved ones are just that, the past. When you understand the past then the present and future fit. A load of bollocks, I hear you say, but thats what it has meant to me since the first day I heard it. The greatest song by a great band.
I discovered The Chameleons this year and am pretty happy about it. This is probably the song of theirs that cuts through me the most. It has a timeless feeling to it, and yet critically if there is no afterlife, the song only beams more with a dark credibility.
folks, have you seen the actual stats on these guys, in the past month or so, there has been a surge in people's interest in this band from sooo long ago, I LOVE THE CHAMELEONS, i cannot forget the original youtube upload of these guys and have been hooked on them EVER F@#$ SINCE, am soo glad and so angry it has taken me 20YRS to find em. my veins are filled the chameleons juice.
Welcome to the club. Listening to The Chameleons for the first time in the 80s was like falling into a familiar, fortifying dream. I lived in Manchester in '84-'85 and know the veins The Chameleons inhabit.
Una de las mejores canciones de su época, de esas que se cuentan con los dedos de las manos. Desde que nació no me he cansado de escucharla... Gracias por el vídeo!
The feeling this song gives me is so intense. Like sad and happy at the same time. This song makes me feel great to be alive!! It evokes so much feeling its simply sublime!
Yes, that's how I feel right now as I am listening to this song. It has a strong dreamlike feel and a strange melancholic beauty to it... definitely sublime. Songs like this are rare...
This was by far my favorite band as a teenager in the eighties. They really had a very special, atmospheric sound that is still unique and appealing after all these years. They've stood the test of time.
Interestingly, it is not what the song means, as much as it is the way it is said. It is, oftentimes, easy to intellectualize a concept, quite another to feel it. Kudos to the Chameleons for pulling it off.
