  • Hey man. What is that your pickin on? Funky lookin instrument but she sounds good. Peace. -Cody Lee Meece

  • "Wicked vibrato on the G string,".........giggidy

  • Can anyone play this lick with alternate picking?

  • Really great lesson! The lick is pretty easy compared to how cool it sounds.

  • Cool. You say: "Im gonna use this software's slow motion feature". What software is that? I work as a guitar teacher as well, and is curious bout what You use? It looks great.

  • @KayserStaffay Final Cut Pro

  • awesomee!!!! what kind of strings you have on that guitar!? and how thick are them? and the pedal tht your using is it by TC electronic?

  • your new axe sounds awesome. Who made it, and what pups are you useing?

  • great camera and lighting man!

  • Badass lesson, you seem to be a really laid-back dude and a kick-ass blues player. My regards!

  • I'm pretty sure at some point SRV used the lick from this remake video, and the original vid. :D

  • are you tuned down a half tone? kinda tough to follow

  • please man, tell me the gear that youre using

  • you almost got it!

  • @gr8bluesgtr

Great vid! It took me about 2 or 3 times of watchin' this video but i finally got it! Learning this lick opened a whole new door for me. I could do a lot more stuff on guitar after learning this! Thanks a lot!

P.S. Could you twll me what kind of guitar you're usin' for this vid? Thanks!

  • man, how do u get that tone?? that just makes my ears cum, what kind of pickups do u use? texas special? if i get them, i'll be able to sound like that?

  • You say: "When he cover the song Couldn't Stand the Weather."

Haha, but thanks it is an awesome lick,

  • @pipon55 I must have edited out the "on" that was supposed to go between "covered this song" and "Couldn't Stand The Weather".

  • If only you lived in oklahoma and did lessons

  • Actually I was having a bad day and regretted the comment straight away. I liked your video and I had no right to be mean to someone who has gone the extra yard to help people with the gift of music. I apologize.

  • @buskerbuoy Maybe you were being a jerk, but I still thought it was pretty funny :-)

  • @gr8bluesgtr that was probably the most grown up exchange i've ever seen on youtube, well done to both of you guys.

  • @gr8bluesgtr hey what happened to this guitar anthony? did you sell it for the srv strat?

  • @megajames3000 Still have it.

  • It should be insane nail polish nancy boy

  • @buskerbuoy That is funny. Well played sir.

  • @gr8bluesgtr dude teach us the song from start to finish.... many people really search for these kind of stuff... ur srv tone is flawless dude

  • I am sure you have been asked this before, but are you wearing pink fingernail polish?

  • @OnTaRgEt16 No. I use very bright lights when shooting these videos.

  • Great!! Awsome stuff.

  • i play a mexican strat.. what can i add on to achieve this tone u get?

your guitar/playing literally gives of the same tone as SRV

please lemme know.. message or just response.

    thanks!

  • @ItsEvanful Biggest upgrades you can give to a mexican strat are some high-end pickups, and heavier strings (.11's), not to mention tuning down 1/2 step. Of those, high-end pickups (think Fralin's or equivalent) are probably the most noticeable upgrade.

  • @gr8bluesgtr Only 11's? C'mon man. I play on 14s!

  • For the left hand that lesson is awesome and thank you for that, but for the right hand, I have some trouble to undestand everything :(, is it all downpicking (except 2 or 3 times) ? thx

  • How do you get tone that good out of .10s? far out.

  • Takes a "Big-Man", to admit he made a mistake! You are the Biggest....

  • How can I buy some lessons? I would like to have it by you only.

  • @hawaiidoves My premium lessons are available as downloads or DVDs at store.steviesnacks (dot) com.

  • is that an ebony figerboard?

  • badass!!!

  • At the end of the lesson it looks like your pick is backwards, is that natural for you?

  • no need to apologize---blues musicians are known for interpretation--very enjoyable

  • what gear (amps/pedals) are you using in this demo? thanks

  • Many thanks to you from those of us that try to mimic this great playing.

Months of trying are reduced to weeks, LOL.

  • IMHO, some lick teachers on youtube sound a bit dull. You don't just teach the notes, you sound very juicy yourself!

  • my god ur awsome thx

  • i'm pretty sure its voodoo child thats what it says in the song and on itunes but i could be wrong

  • thanks for getting a really nice camera

  • what kind of guitar are you playing?

  • You sound great!

  • will it adversly effect m,y sound if I bar the Gb,Bb,Eb strings during the very first section

  • I believe you can play it both ways... They both work....

  • what a great little lesson , I must have missed this. the way you explain, it's no longer insane, thanks... that slo mo is far out !

  • is he half step ?

  • Did you know SRV was born in 1954 - the same year a tiny little guitar luthier released his newest guitar - the Fender "Stratocaster".

  • @AuroraRegalis They were made for each other.

  • absolutely superb video. Wish I could give you a hug, man. I've been wondering about these licks for YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What guitar are you using in this vid? sounds and looks awesome!

  • man you got to tell me your signal chain! Guitar directly into the amp or a screamer in between?

  • throughout this whole lick you only strummed like 5 times lol

  • awesome tone

  • Thanks you so much for doing this lesson! It has helped me a lot in my guitar playing and understanding fast blues licks! :)

  • Hey what are the settings on the amp and guitar...please tell me

  • That is some pure SRV tone and on what looks like a Brian May Big Red style guitar

  • Comment removed

  • That's a nice SRV / Hendrix good there... Great lesson! :)

  • anythony man you should do a full lesson on this song, how to play it start to finish. Even make it a premium lesson if you want, id gladly buy it. its one of my favorites

  • Sorry to point out that the first bend is NOT on 12 fret on G string but on the 14th fret.

  • Good catch. No need to be sorry, I said 12th and played at 14th, you are correct :-)

  • its a real cool sounding lick, good video, thanks

  • Stevie never died. He just quit, got his voice changed, and started doing videos on youtube. Wanna know how I know? I'm watching him! Great lesson! Your tone is amazing and your playing is spot on! :)

  • hey man , how do you can get that tone , do you use pedals? or something?

    Please Tell Me

  • Could I ask what you are playing through and the kind of settings you have? Amazing tone!

  • lol i love the slow motion bit...its so cool to look at

actually i wish more vids on youtube used that, i find myself having to rewind like a madman on some peoples vids just to catch a little piece

  • hey anthony what kinda pups do you have on that guitar?

  • @espshred1988 Jason Lollar Blondes

  • Thanks for the lesson! That lick is insane!!! Is it true that .11 gauge strings put more pressure on the truss rod and can damage it, or the neck? And do you get more tone out of .11's than .10's? Thanks again!!

  • @B2Rockin Yes. That's why I tune down 1/2 step. But even still the truss rod should be adjusted to compensate for the extra tension. As for tone, I think .11s sound much more different than .10s compared to the difference between .11s and .12s.

  • @gr8bluesgtr woowww how could you possibly bend those strings they look like ropes !!! i realy can not play higher than .9's ! i have a question , do fenders sound better with higher gauges 10's , 11's (i play lead mostly) ? tanx .

  • thanks antony

what gauges you use on your guitar (sound more then a 10)?

  • Theses are D'addarion EXL115s which run .11 - .49 I think.

  • Dude 11's have been killing my fingers! lol putting holes in them, but I have to admit my fingertips are getting hard as a rock, and when I switched to .10's they felt like fishing wire!

  • If U tune to Eb , 11s should be fine.

  • Do they give you a better tone? I've never researched string types and gauges, i've used ernie ball .11's and Daddario XL .10's, the .11's sounded good, but the .10's are more delightful to play ;)

  • I find the difference between .10 and .11 to be huge. Especially when you drop to Eb tuning with .11s. The difference between .11 and .12 is nice, but it comes at the expense of greater finger wear.

  • Hey thanks! I did notice the tone to be alot stronger and prominent with the .11's. Do you use .11's in standard tuning as well?

  • @B2Rockin In standard I use .10s.

  • thanks Anthony!

  • I wish everyone were as good as you at camera positioning for guitar lessons.

  • tabs wud make it easier and faster to memorize

    Nice vid tho

  • no it wouldnt tabs are unesessary for his vids just use your ars

  • As i said; to memorize not to understand:P

If you wanna look back on a certain part or just pick out a small part:)

  • aye nobody is perfect

  • you should do videos on tone setting for amps mate!!

  • QUALITY! Love the close up,and slow mo. It's these type of video's that have led me to buy some of your lessons. Keep up the great work. Cheers

  • i really like that samamp

  • awesome man! i love it when you say "wicked vibrato" thats some Stevie vibrato alright!

  • also can you give me your amp settings

  • Great as always Anthony. What pickups are you using these days, and have you tried the Duncan Antiquities? I have heard great things about them. I am having a dilemma on my American Std with the pickups. I have Dimarzios Area 61, 67, 58 in it now, aned I don't like them at all. Not the SRV tone I am looking for.

  • you sir, rock

  • and by god, those strings look thick xD

  • your lessons are awesome as are your guitar skills :D

    5 stars

  • your tone is insane...great chops too man....thanks for sharing

  • Hey Anthony a little request can u teach the SRV style slides. like after the licks he does a wicked slide on the top three strings or at least that's what it looks like

  • also.. what program did u use for the slow mo? the program i use really messes up the audio whenever i try use it

  • I'm fortunate enough to be able to use a program called "Final Cut Pro" for editing these lessons now, and it has some audio effects that allow me to shift the pitch back up to the same tuning after slowing down the video. This is the reason I never used it before, because the audio would always get screwed up before I got the new software.

  • Hey Anothony great lesson! The slow motion feature is awesome too. Would you ever feel like doing a lesson on the rakes you do into some of those bends. I think it is a right hand technique but I either end up muting all the strings or have strings I dont want to ring ring out. Thanks

  • cheers dude

  • Always a great lesson. Sure got some picky ass viewers. Have to appreciate how great SRV really was. He just did all this by instinct and heart.

  • Your new amp sounds really good on this video. It sounds just like SRV austin city limits.

  • I see 2 more mistakes. Time to redo!

  • The sound of new strings and a good amp!

  • Ah, I never noticed your cousins guitar wasn't single. It's real pretty though

  • what?

  • Some of those strums look as though your picking all strings and muting out what you dont need.

I know you covered it another lesson but it might help to explain that abit more.

  • That's one mean lick my Brother. I'll spend days breaking fingers & strings on this one. Many Thanks !

  • like the slo mo

  • That was beast, and I said that a long time ago.

  • This is one of my all time favorite licks! Thanks so much anthony!

  • Thanks

  • Awesome video Anthony. Clean and crisp and well executed. I'll have to drive everyone nuts with this one for a few hours.

    Cheers

  • my god dude that was sick

  • niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....
