I must disagree, there is a sand breakwater offshore on the Eastend of DI. I am referring to the offshore sand barrier which has migrated from Sand Island Lighthouse to an area directly south of the Eastend communities of Audubon Pl, DeSoto Landing and the Isle Dauphin Golf Club. Yes, the Western half of DI was cut by Katrina but these are 2 totally different areas. DeSoto Landing, which is gulffront on the island's Eastend, is protected by what the locals are calling Sand or Pelican Island.
