  • How did you heat the plastic at the nozzle?

  • @brianrossmiller

looks like hes using a induction coil....

  • Love the youtube commentary while you work. Thanks for posting.

  • Nothing is functioning at w w w(DOT)backyardengineer(dot)com .....What happened?

  • think some heavy duty g clamps for hdpe might make it possible. you will need plenty of heat at nozzle.

  • Will it do LDPE/HDPE? I always wanted to make my own armymen!

  • can a mold be made of plaster of paris?

  • Yes a mold can be made out of plaster of paris, but it self destructs after 1 injection. The plaster of paris isn't really made for it but, if you wanted to make a prototype it is perfect for it.

  • @backyardengineer

    interesting. thanks.

  • How much dose that machine cost?

  • I wish you showed it poped out of the mold. Good vid anyhow.

  • excellent.

  • Ho can I made one of this injection machine??

  • to make intricate parts you will still need a cnc milled mold. that alone would bulk up the cost, no?

  • Thanks for the comment. Currently, I am testing aluminum epoxy, that should reduce the cost. I will know better about the epoxy test after this weekend. Just waiting for a mold to cure. However, I have also purchased some CNC equipment to try out as well.

  • You mean using aluminium as a mold? Would it withstand the heat of the plastic being injected into it?

Btw what CNC equipment did you purchase?

  • Currently I am trying A30 from smooth on. It is a cement like epoxy, which appears to deteriorate at over 100 degrees. I didn't realize when i bought. I am now going to try another epoxy from cotronics. higher temperature rating and is machinable. So i can sculpt an injection mold and use my machine to make my parts. The cnc equipment I am using is coming from a guy named andy at modular cnc for 600.00 made out of MDF. I can show you my progress if you visit my site listed on video.

  • Thanks for commenting the black metal part is a scissor jack and the I use a heat element which is wrapped around the cylinder.

  • Interesting. What do you call that black metal part that pushes down on the steel rod? And how do you heat plastic inside the chamber?
