@88icey i completely understand that some people are not able to handle the pressure the TJ causes (i'm a current student) but at the same time, the school was founded to be tough and generate the future's scientists. Still, i'm sure your sisters did great wherever they ended up, because i definitely know that TJ is not right for everyone

@snotberg123 yes pressure is needed but not till the point where people commit suicide need anti depressants and people who don't even wan to go are forced by their parents. My sister was on the breaking point and had to get mental help about a month ago because it was too much. She told me going to TJ was the worst thing shed ever done and told me not to go to TJ. She told me about how you could just tell in the hallways who had just given up. That is just too much

The thing is there is too much pressure for kids to get into TJ. I am a seventh grader currently but i have 2 sisters who both went to TJ. Every night for the first month at TJ they both broke down crying due to too much pressure. Kids have commited suicide due to the pressure and my sister breaks down everyday due to the pressure. Sevral kids are anti depressants. TJ has become a litte too much and so many peoples parents wont give them any other choice but TJ.

@88icey ...dude pressure is needed; Thomas Jefferson High attempts to weed out the best and brightest of the population and if the people can't handle it then they can't handle it...I mean that's the entire point; it's the same for schools like Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, CalTech, etc; I really wanted to go and see if I could do it but I don't even live in the state though my cousin lives really close (he didn't get in)

i already applied, i'm taking tj prep classes, tutors, signed up for about 3 clubs, and do tae kwon do. Last year I got all A averages in my classes (7th grade) and an A plus average in spanish (a high school level class). I'm also hispanic, and i heard that only 1% of TJ students are hispanic. Do I have a strong chance of getting in? Sorry if I made that beggining part sound a little braggy :)

its a pretty good school.

you have to get good grades there because they check how you did for 7th and 8th grade.

its like there school is all honor level.

dont believe the stereotypes about everyone there is a nerd, cause they're not. and the classes aren't short they're normall length: 1:30. They have a ton of sochops, which are like dances, and those are really fun. Lots of football games, people walk down to the five guys and starbucks and other things before the games. MOST people go to UVA, but MIT, duke, princeton, william and mary, thesse schools have tons of people accepted from TJ. And its the top school in the nation!

So what is the problem with being "elitist"?, if you are smart and are given the chance to excel that is fine, you will be better, your community will be better, if you just want to be a mediocre, well that is your problem. Striving to be better than the rest is what made your country great and why I admire it. It seems to me from an outside perspective that the USA has become just to tolerant with failing schools and failing people, it has somewhat become "wrong" to try and be successful.

It's only a good school if you make it a good experience. TJHSST is pretty well-rounded in everything - we just kick some MORE ass in the Science/Math/Tech Department.
