As great as Paul McCartney is, & he is. The Beatles were great because of a perfect balance. McCartney had John Lennon. If you listen to McCartney's solo albums, except for his voice, there's little there that is Beatle quality. Maybe some. But John, he put the edge on some of the tunes that set The Beatles apart from other groups. It's what made The Beatles best. Despite talent, few bands had that. The Stones had it. The Who. But not many. This song could've been a Beatle track.

I've never had a song that made me even think of crying until I heard that Harrison album. George and John were real shit RIP to both.

John was more "beatle" than paul because it was his band, his inertia, but paul knew how to ride it, push it, and market it to the furthest extent. I agree with you totaly.

This song blew me away when I discovered it on a cassette tape 4 years ago. My older brother gave me a bunch of cassettes to record over with talk radio which I tape a lot of. My Father must have played this because I got memorys of age 5 before the divorce. Hes gone, I just found out a childhood friend died I'd sort of drifted away from after HS. I'd thought a lot of him the last year. I just feel like leaving it all behind, move to another state. Get away from this. Leave it behind !

He couldn't even put the acoustic version which is way better, or Serve Yourself on the album.

If you consider that a good role model, then you must consider Eminem or 2Pac great people to look up to. Though, if you think it about there music has morals. Mosh by Eminem is a way better anti-war song than Gimme Some Truth, or Imagine.

@rockyraaacoon John Lennon after two good solo albums couldn't even make a good album (some songs were great), the guy made filler and seemed like he couldn't even come up with something original. Then he comes out with something after 5 years, that was lame, annoying, and just seemed like a waste of time. Plus, he put Yoko on the album who did mediocre at best. Watching the Wheels. He couldn't even put the acoustic version which is way better, or Serve Yourself on the album.

@Glen2k1 which was released after John Lennon and Plastic Ono Band. "Imagine", "Crippled Inside", "Oh my love" are brilliant songs! Even "Oh Yoko!". Mind Games is another brilliant one too - with "Out of the Blue" and "Only people"
There's soo many songs that John Lennon wrote that are amazing in content and music and it's sad your little mind can't conceive that

@rockyraaacoon He has great songs no matter which album, but the thing is he couldn't make an album like the 1st/2nd. Imagine is his second solo album, unless you consider the avant-garde stuff albums (I've heard those as well). Imagine is a great piece of work with no filler, the other ones aren't like that. You forgot One Day, Steel Glass, and more. I love John Lennon, makes some great music. He just makes bad political music. I said Eminem made a good political song, not a great artist

Either way, John Lennon had great protests songs, you even said yourself that Imagine "is a great piece of work with no filler"! So have you actually considered that "Imagine", the SONG, is a GREAT political song! Just listen to the lyrics... Another one is "Only People"...give that one a listen
His music is Great because it still resonates even in modern times....Eminem's song would soon fade away

@rockyraaacoon Only People is okay, I've heard it a couple of times. I've heard all of John Lennon's albums. I just don't like his Marxist rhetoric. A couple of Eminem songs will survive, I doubt Mosh is going to be one. Just don't dig Lennon that much on his political side, or Eminem's. I just don't consider Lennon consistent. Imagine has a nice melody at least, but the lyrics upset me too much to listen to.
