Adaptation. That's is what he's trying to explain. By doing seemingly crazy stuff like scarring himself or changing his grades, apparently for the worse. It was his way to appear more normal by trying out some normal crazy stuff instead of being a supersmart nerd that no one likes. Girls don't like. This is where many so-called child prodigies fail. Math geniuses, spelling bee winners with zero social intelligence. You can be smarter than others, just learn how to sell yourself to the public.

This is sad and this perfectly shows how high IQ people are in fact deficient in higher function brain activities... like emotion, wisdom, intuition, common sense. They (we) can analyze date quickly, have good logical reasoning, but those are all lower brain functions. It is like they (we) are missing hardware acceleration units that can manage those functions well. I always admired people who can dig emotions...

@smoothMousePad as a 145, I cannot tell you how wrong you are. We function quite fine among our own kind. We do not function well with "normals." I personally know many couples where both individuals were in gifted programs and they are in very healthy long term relationships. I also am familiar with many gifted/genius people who are eternally frustrated because they are fishing in the wrong pond. You say deficient, because you are incapable of understanding. I say we are superior.

@robfsu13 I would also like to point out that 80% of the population is sitting around 100. Mental retardation officially begins at 60. That is a 40 point difference. That is also the difference between the most intelligent of us and the general population. Get the picture? Also most psychological research is based on the general population, whereas we are less than 1% of the population. You can base normal psychological theories on us as well as you can on someone with serious disabilities.

@robfsu13 Well, "they" say (and I agree) that it is completely senseless to claim superiority based on a number (which btw was given, and has a meaning only amongst "us"). Among "them" is a person who's IQ is approximately 75. This person can squat 450kg without a blink of an eye. But what's more important is the fact that he can make a right judgement and decision in a situation without ANY thinking. Thanks to this person I still have my legs (and I was an asshole to him in the past).

@smoothMousePad Many people with a high IQ also have a high EQ (emotional quotient). Gifted children are often said to be more sensitive to emotions and have a greater sense of empathy. Wisdom has as much to do with life experience as it does with intelligence.

i know my obama statement was random so let me clear it up. his presidency was voted upon race and something new to the world. he's more of a " hey lets try it out, even if its screws us just so it'll be in the books" the way i see it. the presidency should be kept secret. as in the presidents should be hidden. no way of knowing who they are female or male etc. through out the whole choice process only there concepts and what they want to do should be, pres 1 over pres 2. then when they win.....
