Glad to help. Congratulations on getting a Pentacon Six. I suggest that you try all the shutter speeds without film first - even with the back open, so that you can see what is happening. (Rest it on your lap or hold it carefully with two hands so that the back doesn't swing about.) Then with the back closed, wind on, stop the lens down to f/16 and turn the camera to face you, so that you can see if the lens aperture stops down properly when you fire the shutter. After that, load up & have fun!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, I'm looking forward to receiving my Pentacon Six tomorrow and would have undoubtedly loaded it far too loosely. My thanks to you, sir!
Glad to have been of help. I use my Pentacon Sixes regularly and last took pictures with a Pentacon Six a few days ago. Along with the superb lenses from Carl Zeiss, Schneider-Kreuznach, Arsat and others, it continues to deliver technically superb results. Enjoy making great pictures with your camera!
Congratulations! It's a great camera capable of superb results, and can be expanded with an outstanding range of lenses from Carl Zeiss, Schneider-Kreuznach and others. See my website pentaconsix com for more details.
Great to know that you have no spacing problems with your Pentacon Six. The key to correct spacing is the toothed spindle on the right. This is turned by the film and that's how it measures how much film has been advanced. If the film is loose & slips over the spindle, spacing will be wrong. I agree with you about the Kiev 60. I have had two found them too big & too noisy. I just got a P6 film back from processing: perfect spacing - as always! Enjoy making great pictures with your camera. :)
When I first got my Pentecon 6 I loaded it completely wrongly.
Later on I got some instructions given to me for a Kiev 60 that I had (an awful camera - overlapping frames all over the place!) These didn't cure my Kiev 60 woes (the camera went back twice, the second time permanently!) but I used the recommended method for my P6. It differs to your in that I use my thumbs to line up the arrow, not the winder.
So... two methods, probably both wrong, yet the spacing on my P6 has always been fine!
@mipmipmipmipmip Sorry about that! :) Some dogs also started barking in the background - but I had decided to do the recording outside, using natural light. Hope you're enjoying using your camera.
@mipmipmipmipmip TLRs have many gd points: less moving parts, quieter, usually lighter &y flash sync @ all speeds (except 4 the cheapest TLRs), but SLRs are gr8 for close-ups (no parallax problems), interior shots using wide-angle lenses, landscapes (ditto), cityscapes (also using shift lenses if desired), portraits and candids with longer lenses, animal and bird shots with very long lenses, etc. The Pentacon Six is probably the quietest Medium Format SLR. Do a web search for my P6 website.
@PentaconSixExpert I found a pentacon six website, not sure if it yours. Looks promising! I am considering something more suitable for portraits, but a second hand hasselblad seems to risky for me (all go for a high price, what if it doesn't work) I will surely keep the Pentacon in mind!
@mipmipmipmipmip My site comes up as the first one on Google UK at the present time. It currently has over 204,000 visitors. It links to this video. YouTube strips out web links in comments here. The 180mm Carl Zeiss Sonnar is one of the best portrait lenses in the world - large and heavy but superb.
Great. Glad you found it helpful. You can see a printed description of the process on my website (looks as though YouTube won't let me post a link) - plus lots more information on the Pentacon Six camera system on that website.

@PentaconSixExpert oh the video is understandable enough! I don't own a Pentacon Six yet, I use a TLR, no mirror slap. I do love how it looks here!
