I love the 'real car fan' approach to this, no panning just foot to the floor driving and using the car for what it was intended for, making long journeys short.
But now it's a different time, back than cops didn't have a whole arsenal with helicopters and a whole fleet, if these guys did this in the 70's they would have blown them right out of the water.
@sharpiegold Yea rawlings just seems like a ballsy person with a fast care, but if you listen to alex roy he meticulously planned every last detail. He didn't make a public bet shouting it out like a moron for attention. That's just my impression.
he explains in the book what happened, roy didn't tell anyone about the record for a year, these guys did their time before he released his time, i believe his run will also be in the film 32hr7min
The technology has changed but the guys in the seventies still had crude radar detectors, tail light switches, and rearward facings radar. You may be an Alex Roy fan, as am I, but you have to respect the Rawlings team for (a) attempting it and (b) actually betting $50K to say they were capable. Look at them, in the vid, they were hitting the wall. Few can do what Roy and Rawlings did. I will never be able to do it. It's like Jordan versus Kobe. You have to respect them both for their strengths.

Really not that impressive, that's not even a 100mph average speed. My buddy drove us from Danbury, CT to St. Louis, MO in 12 hours including a full sit down meal. Total drive time was a little over 10 hours or so, mind you we were in an 03 F350 Powerstroke quad cab long bed with 4 passengers while towing a 2,000 lb trailer.
Nearly 100mph the whole time and we only saw one cop and he ticketed us for 75 in a 55 when we slowed down for traffic.
Wow.. it took me about 20 hours just to get from Miami Florida to St. Louis Missouri.. but we were in a 2005 Dodge Ram SLT, towing a U Haul and NOT participating in a rally across the country.. Lol. I love cars and I love driving.. but my god, that was a horrible day.. so much traffic in Atlanta Georgia.. We left Miami 2 am got on the Florida turnpike and were out of the state right at Lunch Time. :D
They wouldn't need it, because cop cars back then didn't have camera and all the help they can get now such as helicopters...so if you were brave enough to run away with a fast car it was possible.

It's a good thing Alex Roy did his cross-country run before these posers ruined everything.

Pretty impressive... But those guys in the 70s did it without all the electronic stuff, so that's still more impressive
