  • Thanks :)

  • I'm sorry but wtf?

  • Thanks for this video. I have a project where I need to create 10 A3 brainstorm idea sheets and this method gave me a good starting point. Excellent video :)

  • what can mind maps be used for? Should they only be associated with papers, reports, etc... what can they be used for ( and keep in mind im only 16), well the question is what can I use them for??? SOMEBODY PLZ RESPOND

  • @newbei440 - You can use a mind map for pretty much anything. If you can think about it, you can mind map it. If you mind map it, you can think about it better.

As Tony Buzan says: a mind map is a picture of your thinking. It shows the links between ideas and allows you to gather your thoughts.

Also, a mind map is a very personal thing. You can come back to a mind map several weeks or even years later and the original thinking pops straight back into your head. They are brilliant for learning

  • Making of very good mind map takes long time, but learn from it (for me) its just minutes.

  • I love the music

  • I don't get this. It takes me 10 minutes to write it list. It would take me like 4 hours to draw up a pretty mind map. I might be done my entire list of projects in four hours.

  • I just do it as simply as possible in one colour and no doodles. When I want to use colours I use a thick pen with four colours each one that can be pushed down in turn.

  • @pointlesscommentary i think its more for people who are visual/spatial learners and have a hard time connecting information. like when i read outlines i literally cannot connect/retain anything. i can by reading the information and seeing pictures ( like in a book) , and i do so much better. anyways, i'm referring to biology. i don't know what you mean by projects, but if you mean business plans i would make a list too, cuz its like...a list.

  • Loved it!

  • sorry for sounding dumb, but what is mind mapping good for?

  • @slave2thecanvas for brainstorming, remembering and memorising

  • Mind mapping? What a load of tosh, The person who made those "mind maps" Obviously has some obsession with money which can be clearly seen in the "mandalas" that have been produced, The technique is creative imagination, yes it is good, but giving it a name like mind mapping and comparing it with linear and trying to project your own interpretations into others isn't the point. Be creative, have fun, but don't for the love of oneself, mind map!

  • @Dirtyratsdotwebs Oh dear. Another amateur psychologist.

The truth is that some like mind mapping and some don't. If you like it, that's fine. If you don't, that's fine as well. You simply take your choice.

But comments like this really show a lack of intelligence.

  • @SeymourSunshine A comment like mine shows lack of intelligence? I disagree, I can think for myself, I dont need labels like mind mapping to put me on the right track to a healthy life in body and mind.

  • @Dirtyratsdotwebs That's as maybe. But you're assuming that the choice which is right for you is right for everyone. And that is where you are fundamentally mistaken. Just because others walk to the beat of a different drum doesn't make them wrong.

What you need to make your life MUCH healthier is to accept that others can differ from you and still be right in their choices. Until you can do that, you are limiting your own understanding of the world and your enjoyment of it.

  • @SeymourSunshine I agree with your comment, but I am not fundamentally mistaken. Read my comment and quote me which part is fundamentally mistaken. Other than that, thanks for feedback on my comments, feel free to check out my dirty rat website.

  • @Dirtyratsdotwebs

    * Obviously has some obsession with money ... It's a mind map about money.

    * but giving it a name like mind mapping and comparing it with linear ... Who's comparing?

    * and trying to project your own interpretations into others ... Who's doing this?

    * don't for the love of oneself, mind map! .... Your map of the world only has relevance for you.

Friendly advice: Find pleasure in diversity.

    Pointless discussion now closed.

  • @SeymourSunshine That must be Tony Buzan's mind map.

  • I found this obtuse and difficult to follow, even if it was quite pretty.

  • Another gimmick.

This is no better than linear note-taking. It just looks prettier.

  • So if it looks prettier, it's more emotionally charged and more memorable. So it IS better than linear note taking.

The human brain is NOT a linear device like a tape drive. It's a random access device like a disc drive. Mind Maps work in the same way as the brain works.

But if you're happy with linear note taking, then you've probably acquired that habit and that's fine for you. Just don't assume that everybody is like you. Most people like Mind Mapping once they get used to it.

  • Question: versus note-taking and outlining, how much time does htis take?

  • It takes longer, but the results are outstanding and last much longer.

The method of mindmapping speeds up your endresult very much. Actually it's a timesafer: for example a good speech can be achieved in 1/10 of the time.

  • Yeah, I'm sure, seeing as how most of that time would be spend doing constructive things like drawing flowers and rainbows. Question: can you do this without drawing pictures and using different colors and making branches curve and flow, and maybe get the same result faster?

  • Then that would be just uninspiring bullet points, that don't stimulate the memory areas of the brain! Drawing the 'constructive things like .... flowers and rainbows' helps trigger the long term creative memory. Takes me a few minutes to draw a good mind map, saves me hours of repetitive, mind numbing learning.

  • That seems unintuitive. When you come up with a good idea about writing an essay, a picture of a quill and the words 'writing an essay' underneath aren't going to help you remember it. It's the idea itself that is inspiring, not a random picture that could mean anything; that's just distracting.

  • this is an awesome tool!

  • wonderful

  • to tony buzan: it doesn't work for Medical Students, does it?

(need constructive comment- gimme a link/ source to help my frenz)

  • Thank you for this great video.

  • As asked b4 on where to start your mind map... U should start by drawing the nuclues or center of your map, it can be a word or a symbol then you start drawing curved branches comming out of it

You should write only one word above the branch that identifies wut u r talking about like the word marketing or place

    Use colors

    Hope this might help

    Thanks

  • Great, love it. Thank you thank you thank you!

  • You could also do it in photoshop and using google images! advantage is that you have unlimited paper area and can always add to it or take away/modify it.

  • Sorry I got nothing out of this. A voice over would have been very helpful. All I see is nice mind maps, that I would like learn hot to create but I still don't know where to start. Perhaps a mind-map of how to create a mind map?

  • Would you please tell me what the handwriting font is that you used for the instructions? Love it! Thanks.

  • Thanks, I think I'm going to try this method soon. Looks like a great method to get things down on paper.

  • cool stuff here. feeling the music too.

  • Thank you for this interesting and understandable introduction. I'll try and show it to my husband, he is learning to become a nurse at the age of 42, and it is very hard to go back to learning mechanically. How could I print the list of the different steps. Thank you for answering.

  • Get hold of a copy of ""Use Your Head" by Tony Buzan. This is probably the best resource ever for anyone who really wants to learn. It covers (i) speed reading (ii) memory skills (iii) mind mapping and (iv) The Mind Mapping Organic Study Technique" or MMOST for short.

  • Thx to Tony Buzon mind mapping tool!

  • Weird... Today I started researching study techniques and It was quiet so I wanted to put on some music, I thought it would be matching so I put on bachs cello. I turned it off to listen to this video and bachs cello was playing in the background, wow. What a coincidence.

  • Nicely put together, i was reading someones mind.

  • This is great and all, but why the need to be all creative? Its just a brainstorm dressed up in a nice gown.

  • No. It's very different from a brainstorm.

Brainstorms are used for random thinking allowing one idea to spawn another, and the words are written in random places on the paper. The location of the words is of no significance.

Mind maps are for joined-up thinking and the location of the words is crucial.

  • @wallythewindowwasher it is a way to organize the thoughts into systems. Thanks for sharing.

  • You are limiting yourself in your thinking. Mind maps are, as you say, great. They are great for creative, joined up thinking. But there is also a need for linear thinking.

It is a mistake to adopt mind maps and discard lists. They BOTH have their uses and their place in the thinker's toolbox.

  • Definitely. The mind map is for people who do not think linearly and lists do not work well for the global thinker. No one way is better-we need both kinds of thinkers in the world to truly get anything done. You are right--BOTH have their place. Good thinking!!!

  • @wallythewindowwasher: I agree. When all you have is a hammer, everything else begins to look like a nail. Mind mapping has its strengths and limitations, just like any linear thinking activity. It really depends on which technique the situation calls for.

  • Mind mapping is great, but having a plain list on how to do it without colour, without pictures, without creativity was a total let down.

Don't use this video to teach it's a bad example.

  • the music is cello suite no 1

  • Can anyone tell me the name of this music?

  • Cello Suite No 1 - 1st Movement, JS Bach

  • Thank you

  • Very nice video. Mind mapping is a great thing!

  • you make it look so easy. I just wish it was just that.

  • Just takes practice and the need for think time!! Think time is a luxury in our world but the best ideas come from just thinking.

  • beautiful musica!

  • of all the mindmap tutorials on youtube, this one certainly ranks amongst the top 3

  • wow!what beautiful-creative mind maps this videos had...

    a lot of patience!lol

  • nice

  • i don't know why... i start a mind map and then two mins later, this doesn't look good, then i scrunched it up and it went into the dustbin. can someone help me? i'm getting frustrated!!

  • Remember that yours may not look like others. What you are looking to achieve in a mind map is that it fulfills its purpose - a map of associations your mind makes with ideas. I know mine is going to look horrible and not nearly as artistic as the examples out there, but it should accomplish its purpose nonetheless.

  • If you have trouble with Mind Maps why don't you send me an email about your problems in Mind Maps

  • Ok...so when u finish to do dis thing what is the next step...I mean, you have "X" problem, then you start to do this Mind Maps and put all your ideas in it, then you finish, so whats next? thx 4 the advice!!!

  • Wow, I am humbled just by the pictures within the mind map...!

  • coo'

  • What an absolutely awesome presentation and gift you have

posted. Thank you for you !!

  • good

  • Excellent! I like the way they used music and images to teach the concept of mind-mapping.

  • Thank you for a nice tutorial!
