  • "What truly makes this unique is that one see the transformation that Our Savior has had on Mr. Kaufman. He has a twinkle in his eyes." lol, its called "acting".

  • Andy was the luckiest man on Earth to have the great privilege of putting his captive audiences through those convincing and tortuous little bits.

  • Funny?

  • He was on TV a lot - and we're NOT.

  • Andy was way ahead of his time. So much that some people still believe that the became a Christian.

  • @vitorsuman i thnk people say he was a genius because they don't want to be seen as the one "idiot" who didnt get it. if he was brilliant at anything it was fooling the pants off of the public because he was horribly unfunny. while the premise itself was decent the whole being unfunny is ironically funny bit sort of only works when you let people in on it.

  • @kalpal67 Thank you Mr. Wizard.....Andy was a comic genius...you are a nobody momo

  • This was pure PR for Andy

  • he is the biggest troll after the god.

  • what did he do the year before this aired?

  • @cagdassalur he screwed up every sketch on purpose...it built to the restaurant scene...some were in on it some were not. Watch the Movie Man in The Moon starring Jim Carey...you won't be dissapointed.

  • You know, she is every bit as great an actor as he is!

  • So sad that Andy became ill and died.

  • He is playing with possibilties. He adjusts himself to a situation and plays the role very honest. Oh, brilliance. :')

  • The power of christ compels you, the power of christ compels you!

  • This clips remains the most representative sample that the genius of of America's greatest comedian has ever offered. Kaufmann was the only artist who consistently blurred the line between schtick and and madness. Nobody will be ever able to figure him out or replace him. And yes, unfortunately he really is really dead.

  • does he blink at all? :)

  • @johnsmithperadetlic i really dont think he does. hm...

  • kathy sullivan, cheers for going along with andy. great put-on :) i love you andy and you are missed!

  • the power of Kaufman, and sometimes my discomfort with him was how far he would dive into satire. Penn Jillett takes similar chances but Andy was the most courageous. It is no shame that some were completely fooled. Andy might well have appreciated their naivety.

  • @Celtgoshawk it's this subtlety: wait something's not quite- hmm..? I think he doesn't take having to justify oneself seriously or as something too important so he pleases people as best he can with a performance which leaves one impressed. I always feel like he's the most honest in his act. He believes what he does as a certain effect and that's satisfying. He is just having fun. I wouldn't take it as it is, that's the point, don't you agree? One might notice...or not. it's good in any case.

  • Wikipedia will confirm that this was a hoax. Christians suck so much lol

  • LOL @ people not knowing he was putting on a con about becoming a christian

  • What truly makes this unique is that one see the transformation that Our Savior has had on Mr. Kaufman. He has a twinkle in his eyes. Sometimes we have to be lost, in order to be found. Andy, had no doubt, hit a low point in his life--career wise, and personally. It is through the grace of his Salvation that he was able to pick himself up and find his true self. God Bless.

  • @fraidy2008

you do realize that this was a hoax, and he admitted it.

  • @NazPolidov Andy was blessed. He was truly touched.

  • @fraidy2008 daddy don't preach

  • @fraidy2008 Stop preaching. He wasn't at a low point...this was all set up, by Andy and Bob Zmuda.

  • @thewackyretard Andy knew the truth. He is Heaven now. Listen to his words and believe. God Bless you, wacky retard.

  • @fraidy2008 Okay, I'm trying to be nice about this. Thank you for your "blessing," but I'm not religious, and I don't like it when people preach it to people who don't ask for it. It's disrespectful.

  • @thewackyretard Wacky Retard, bless you for your internet kindness. I know you didn't ask for it, I offered it, and you responded. You are a gentle peaceful soul, I can tell, but you are searching. May your search bring you to the same conclusion that Andy found. I'm praying for you right now...... Okay, I just finished.

Peace be with you, and God bless you, Wacky Retard.

  • @fraidy2008 Okay. I can't say I didn't try.

You know what? Jesus was a drunken Jew.

  • @thewackyretard Wacky Retard, God bless you for acknowledging Jesus! You have taken that first step towards your Salvation. However, I sense a little hostility. Just a tad. No big deal, I'm proud of you, Andy is proud of you, and keep striving to get know Jesus. Trust and Believe!

Bless your dear sweet heart, Wacky Retard.

  • @fraidy2008 I know you're just sitting there typing this shit and thinking that you're the funniest motherfucker to walk the earth, and that you're just getting under my skin. Well sorry to upset you, but anything you say is not effecting me in any way because, well...you're an idiot.

  • @thewackyretard Soul saving is no joke. And please don't be sorry, I'm not upset. Perhaps some scripture? Rick 1:1, "We're no strangers to love,You know the rules and so do I", 1:2, "A full commitment's what I'm thinking of,You wouldn't get this from any other guy" 1:3, "I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling. Gotta make you understand", 1:4, "Never gonna give you up, Never gonna let you down,Never gonna run around and desert you,Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you." Bless you, Wacky Retard.

  • @fraidy2008

    How about another scripture?

Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5.

In other words: believe this and don't question it.

Wow, this one seems fine tuned to idiots like you.

  • @thewackyretard Wacky Retard, THANK YOU for your inspirational quote. I can see you are reading. You may be touched! God Bless you, Wacky Retard.

  • @fraidy2008 Haha. Way to take the piss out of a piss-taker taking piss out of piss that was once taken long ago.

  • @fraidy2008 = it was a piss-take, you know that, don't you? He was born Jewish - and died Jewish - he never really "broke down" or converted. You are a moron,

  • @pa20002000 His pa 2000200! God Bless You! Andy was indeed born Jewish. Jesus was born Jewish too! Woohoo! Jesus also died Jewish! It is wonderful that Andy found Jesus. Two Jews finding each other? AWESOME! I saw Andy in a church once in 1980. He was praying and singing. It was inspirational. I never forgot it. It was real and so is/was Andy's faith. Peace be with you! You are a wonderful person. HUG!

  • @fraidy2008 and your a delusional sky-daddy obsessed nut - and no "love your enemy" or flattery will change my opinion of you. Please save your hugs for your own kind. No offence intended.

  • @pa20002000 Pa20002000. I'm praying right now for your soul. My hands are literally on my monitor(which is full of fingerprints, I do a lot of soul saving via computer). I'm sending power faith vibes your way. So if your feel a tingling, or hot flashes, that is the Holy Spirit knocking at your door. Let the Spirit inside and find true Salvation like Andy Kaufman! Maybe someday you will be standing in front of your friends singing about your Faith. I'm praying that will happen. God Bless you.

  • @fraidy2008 How you spend your own time, I guess, is entirely up to you. But pious, sanctimonious, wankers may think they earn points in theaven, but will earn no thanks from me. You might as well save your prayers for those worthy of "saving" or could otherwise give a monkey's toss. If I ever get a tingling it will most liley be due to poor circulation and nothing to do with salvation. (If i were you I would give your monitor a wipe before you catch something nasty from it.) Merry Xmas.

  • @pa20002000 Merry Christmas to you. Have a safe and joyous one. Prayers are free and unlimited, so no worries.

  • @fraidy2008 By the way - how could both your hands be "literally" on the monitor - and you are still able to type at the same time? Truly a miracle worthy of today's age.

  • @pa20002000 Truly is a miracle. The power of Christ compels me! :) (I also have very pointy elbows, it's good for a few bar tricks)

    Take care.

  • pointy-elbows - haha - ur funny....;)

  • @fraidy2008 You *DO* realize that this whole thing was a huge joke, right? Andy Kaufman never "found God" or any of that shit. Do a bit of research into him, you'll see.

  • @fraidy2008 - Sure you realize this was a hoax, too. It's already been revealed. Anyone who knows Andy's work also knows that the beauty of his work means you never know if he's "real" or not. Sometimes it's obvious - sometimes not. Needless to say, Andy was raised Jewish, but didn't observe any supernatural culture as his own.

Oh, and before you start preaching to the masses about what your 'savior' can accomplish, you might want to do your homework. Believe in YOURSELF before your god.

  • @BAYDPRODUCTIONS Sarcasm.

  • @fraidy2008 I knew it, Andy is alive and continues his work by comments on youtube.

  • @fraidy2008 you can be even more provocative, insult the non-belivers with you pretensiousness

  • @fraidy2008 i hope you're being sarcastic...because this was a total joke you know....god had nothing to do with this

  • @fraidy2008 Jesus was a fag and God used to give him reach arounds every sunday

  • @TomHansonJr I can sense your anger and confusion over your Faith. TomhansonJr, I am praying for you now. I know you could careless, but maybe when you are facing a dark moment in you life, a time when things seem terrible, maybe you will remember some internet guy, that you will never meet, praying for your success and happiness. I will be praying for you, and if I pass before you, I will stand before the Holy Father, and offer my prayers for you. Take it easy, and God Bless You.

  • @fraidy2008 It is wrong to pray for anyone without his/her consent as you may unintentionally go against the will of the Holy Spirit and you, therefore, are practising black magic.

  • @TomHansonJr now that's funny!

  • @fraidy2008 haha the fact you buy his act is what makes him such a great troll. He was born jewish for christ sake.

  • @fraidy2008 So he started snorting the Jesus and we're supposed to encourage that?

  • @fraidy2008 Whatever you think your savior did to influence Andy's work likely isn't the case. Kaufman was born Jewish and died a mystic.

  • @fraidy2008 Haha you dolt, he was taking the piss :P

  • Tv was so good then.

  • BRILLANT...who would but a genius comic would come up with this!

  • i surprised he said "thats MY character Latka." His character is Foreign Man. ABC's Character is Latka. He hated sitcoms all together let alone being typecast as "Latka".

  • Pretty Singing from both lmao

    Love this!

  • LATKA GRAVAS!!!!

  • Pure genius.

  • I demand an answer!

  • just fucking great

  • He did this on Fridays..

    Wow! did that really happen?

this must have been more surprising than War of the Worlds. Andy actually became his art.

  • Andy was certainly one of the first "post-modern" stand-up comedians to break out of the vaudeville shtick.

BTW, Frank Zappa and the Mothers were staging audience baffling stunts before Andy was was in the biz. Of course, everyone knew what was going on and the band would follow up with phenomenal music.

  • I love the look he gives at :34, after he says, "after what I did last year."

He gives a little smile and a little blink. Cutie.

  • Excellent

  • I was waiting for something funny to happen after the song. When nothing happened I laughed even harder than I would have if there was something lol

  • This Seems so genuine.

    He was such a genius.

    he sure is missed.

    ):

    WeLoveYouAndy<3

  • i wouldn't call this a monologue

  • awkward-licious!

  • hearing the few people laughing in the crowd when she tells them that "Andy is a Christian" is one of the funniest things. I read that he met her an hour before the show taped

  • wow...andy was really great singer too!!

  • he's great!! the best!!

  • absolutely fucking brilliant...

reminds me of al and tipper.

  • miss sullivan where are you now--and has anyone asked about the way you may have brought karen carpenter back to life on this night--this footage is real--and my comments demand something from above and you

  • omg, thank you so much for posting this...haven't seen AK for years...great entertainment...tv's taken a long trip downhill since these days

  • I can't believe I am old enough to have seen this when it origianlly aired!

  • another andy kaufman classic

  • She's great; perfect.

  • This was a put on, but it was fun. It didn't hurt anyone and was very funny.

TV today is TRASH! They'd never let something like this happen.

  • Priceless footage. Thank you for posting this. Nuff said. Respect.

  • THIS was perhaps my FAVORITE Andy Kaufman gag! God, I've tried to describe this to people for years. So uncomfortable and difficult way beyond the boundaries. I almost fell out of the sofa when I saw it on TV. Jaw-grinding comedy.

  • there are bearded hebrews in the audience

who are just so slightly clapping in the hope

that this is another gag -- the 7 letter C------ word

    foremost in their mind....

  • it was about absurdity

  • what? im confused.

  • at 8:31! look at his face!!!! look! look! XD

    uwahahahhaha...

  • She's from the "Lawrence Welk Show" Which reruns its old shows on PBS stations nationwide on Saturdays at 6/7. Great old wholesome cheesy fun. Surprised she got in on this joke.

  • caN'T get enough.

  • What's funny is the joke was getting old and tired, but he still kept pushing it it was hilarious once again.

  • god is a figment of your imagination he was put into the minds of simpletons to control the masses

  • ohh like this song mmm Jesus ... i love you soo much Lord... praise the name of Jesus amen!!! mmmm

  • get a life you sad bastard

  • I have a life ron as I don't believe in the lord I believe in mc Donalds

  • posting this on youtube

    really is big comedy

  • The wages of sin is death but the hours are good

  • Do you know why jesus was born in a stable....Christmas is a busy time for hotels

  • Andy did things in a different way. He was interesting, crazy, funny & just got folks talking. My favorites are ignorant people that talk crap, like some on this very thread. Throwing the insults around and running their mouths. Hiding behind the Internet, of course. Stay Off The Kaufman Sites, Pages And Clips if you all can't stand him. I mean, what are you creatures doing here?? Watch someone you like. It's Amazing.

  • Creatures? ignorance?

You wouldn't happen to be insulting people would you? Do you still stand by your previous unsupported assertion that insults show I.Q levels? If so, what are we to determine form your current comments?

By the way, why did you give 'amazing' a capital when it was clearly the second letter in the sentence?

  • I love Andy's Modus operandi - get the people to laugh at you then completely disarm them with sincereity. I really think that was his one punch line. He was committed to the abusrd.

  • haha, I love how the audience keep laughing when they talk about their "faith"...

  • He really was the devil incarnate...chapeau, Andy!

  • Andy was truly a mastermind.

  • Andy Kaufman... a born again Christian? LOLOLOL

  • Did she really believe it?

  • I totally "get" Andy, 2 2 2 2 2 2 3 4 plus 5 +8=76!?*)(&^%$£!. Understanded my face!

  • I read that she had no idea of what was going on. They met the day of the show....This is precious

  • The confidence and ego on this is immense ; great stuff. His legend will just keep increasing!!

  • Brilliant. It takes such intelligence to carry off a joke on such a scale as this one

  • yeah it is a comedy show...and it was a funny skit..andy loved to mess with people and this is no exception.

  • original - but rather a limited repertoire?

  • My friend and I got to sit at the screening premier of Man on the Moon in Hollywood before it came out, and Kaufman's "entourage" and his wife sat behind us. It was the strangest way to watch a movie, especially near the emotional parts at the end. I wanted to ask her if it was sad that Courtney Love was who the director most thought she resembled, but I thought I would just keep my mouth shut instead.

  • I bet she was great in the sack!

  • She's great; perfect.

  • You know this was a hoax, right?

he didn't really marry this chick.

  • Yes, and she plays the part perfectly.

  • ya no shit idiot ...

  • incredible stuff......

    pitch perfect piss-taking

  • pitch perfect and deadly dull...

  • The Master of Anti-Humour.

    5/5

  • Genius !

  • This was the genius part...he made everyone feel uncomfortable. People thought he would be funny, but the hilarious thing is that the audience getting screwed is part of the overall joke. He was the perfect anti-comedian.

  • bah

  • Actually, it was the exact opposite. Andy loved anyone who appreciated his work. But, he especially loved the "people" who would insult him, boo & hiss, like you. The fact that you are here even posting & searching for someone you "don't care for", made Andy's day. In fact, sort of makes mine as well.

  • I don't doubt he did. If I was an overrated talentless chump I'd be over the moon that morons like you thought I was a genius too.

Fact is, Kauffman was a run of the mill to below average comndeian, whose only claim to fame was being a pain in the ass.

  • Good one. Got anymore? Looking forward to it.

  • What more is needed?

Kauffman sucked, and you are one of many tryhards who desperatley want to sound clever, but failed maths abd science, so now attempt in vain to find hidden genius in tryhards like Kauffman in order to compensate.

Nothing could be funnier, hence my prescence here, morons like you are a riot lol

  • Continue. Especially, the name calling....

    Shows your I.Q.

  • Really? How so?

  • Exactly. I didn't think you'd understand. Peace, fellow YouTuber. Enjoy Andy & the rest of your videos. End.

  • Exactly what? You haven't supported your theory.

You claimed insults showed my I.Q, then failed to support it with any evidence. Are you religious by any chance?

  • he was amazing because he was the first "borat" but with more realistic jokes. He wanted to create jokes not jokes for all idiots to laugh about but big jokes.

Love that guy, hate retards like you :> Sorry I'm not andy, I do hate retards with low IQ...

  • so true, he got off on making people squirm and pissing them off

  • @badskroy71 I totally agree 100%. Andy never liked to be called a comedian. But I really think this performance was beautiful. It really choked me up. I know it is a Kaufman put on. But I still think it's beautiful.

  • he is very very sexy. i love his Gene Wilder eyes

  • A lot of "real" people played along with Andy because

1, They had a sense of humour

2, They recognised a comedy genius

3, They were paid to..... Gotta love Andy Kaufman!

  • He was the first one to make the audience feel "uncomfortable" which is very very funny. Kind of like Michael form the US version of the office. You feel uncomfortable but can't stop laughing.

  • I agree Zoltar. I actually feel far more uncomfortable watching him with this Christian woman than I ever felt watching him be "controversial." lolol....

    That's why I favorited it.

  • He was great! Five Stars! :)

  • She's a real Christian. Good sport too.

  • Who played his fiance? Does anyone know? Was she a "real" christian or just part of the gag. Andy strikes again.

  • Does anyone know who played the part of his fiance'?

  • his girlfriend in real life.

  • Andy strikes again !

  • "played a Christian"...too bad.

  • LOVE THIS GUY.

  • Andy was a gifted person. i hate that so many people talk crap about him. he didnt do anything to anyone. he was just a person trying to make his way through life by doing what he loved.

  • Agree completely! Under all his hilarious and outrageous (and I think genius) comedy acts he was truly a gentle person.

  • genius

  • Definitely a gag; it's his way of getting back at the man! Funny as hell as long as you know it's a gag.

  • Actually it's funnier if you DON'T know it's a gag.

  • when andy starts in the comedy, jim carrey was in their father nuts..

  • lol i think this was fake andy use to pull a lot of pranks like this i think he did this in response to all the bad publicity he was getting at the time

  • andy kaufman died for our sins

  • Well , when i 'm listening this stupid song with this girl, i think to myself: what the hell, i'm doing here? And i'm happy to feel something, even its very enoying! I suppose that each time i'll hear a stupid song, i will think about this genious and this borring song. When i 'm watching at him , "metaphysics doubt" about life is coming back and its healthy!

  • one of the most brilliant men I have ever seen...

  • Andy was the penultimate showman! He turned the tables and made himself the audience and the audience, the act!

This was Andy doing just that. She was, in essence, a willing prop, in a Kaufman performance. Just as was "British-Man" where he would read the entire Great-Gatsby, or "Sleeping-Man" Andy was the absolute master of performance art. Absolute genius.

Andy did not care if an audience loved him(this shtick) or god help the world -Tony Clifton! Its show-biz!!!

  • i dont buy it

    i think hez still playin

  • 'fridays' will be a footnote to Andy Kaufman -- it already is -- it was a mediocre imitation of snl -- and he exploited it for his purposes -- I don't know how premeditated THAT could have been, but maybe some of the tension with cast and crew was a knowledge of the fact at some level
