@siggism I play the violin, and no, they do not have frets, the only way you can have help is getting colored marking tape and place it where it needs to go... thats what I did for my first year or two... Now I'm on 3 years :D

@siggism No they don't. I know from experience. haha. Sometimes new players will have finger tapes put on, but otherwise your ear gets trained to know what's in tune and what isn't.

There were some baroque basses which had "frets" made of gut strings tied around the neck.

Currently, Yes, there IS a fretted electric violin... if you could still call it a violin. It's called a "Viper". Google "viper violin", or visit davidsonviolins-dot-com and find them under "electric violins".
