Matt always kept kitty away romantically because he knew his profession would keep her in constant danger. he loved her, but would not commit. When Kitty ever got in trouble, Matt would rush to help her, and he let nothing stand in his way.
This episode is great and this is hands down Bronson's best performance. Look at the way he hunches over and the expression on his face as Dillon terrorizes him. TheGunsmokeChannel, I'm always telling everyone how great these half-hour Gunsmokes are and this one's sensational. Whenever the subject of Bronson comes up in conversation, I always talk about this episode.

Did anyone know that the gypsy was actually Played by James Arness wife Virginia Chapman. She was not in the credits for her role in this, but was listed in the credits in the show "Reed survives", where there was no gypsy in that episode at all....
@lauxsd123 I agree with both comments. Especially Amanda Blake! She was always a looker but when she was young to this show, both literally and figuretively, she was smokin hot! A lot had to do with the fact that they hadn't yet decided the relationship between Kitty and Matt, so if you notice, she was always starry eyed and flirtatious with Mr. Dylan..gotta love it!!
What a wonderful old show. I',m always stunned at how many guest stars on Gunsmoke went on to become icons of the big and small screen. Some actors are afraid of typecasting but James Arness used it to become one of the wealthiest and most beloved figures in entertainment. RIP Mr. Dillon.

The man shot to death in his bedroll (James Nusser) also played the town drunk, 'Louie Pheeters' from 1961 to 1970. Another of my gunsmoke favorites.

I know I commented on this before, I'm commenting on it again.
I loved it when Matt showed us a darkside to him that we've never seen before...it's hot and badass at the same time :)

Charles Bronson was great as Kreagle. Amanda Blake- so young and pretty.

James Arness vs. Charles Bronson!
I wonder: is there also an episode with Chuck Norris (could have been in the 1970's)?
