i have the japanese version on DVD and there are many interesting differences from the american dubbed version, including the fact the two monsters are referred to as FRANKENSTEINS,thus the link to Frankenstein Conquers The World.
I wish they still showed these monster films on American TV. I remember TBS and TNT would do a Japanese monster movie showcase every few months. Television is awful now.
@Thatguyfromimpanema - the white actor is Russ Tamblyn, in such movies as 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers', 'Tom Thumb', and 'The Haunting', and 'West Side Story' as mentioned below. James MacArthur played Danno in the Hawaii 5 O series.
Notice that in the trailer, insteadof the Gargantua sounds we normally hear, the Brown Gargantua's roar is the one used for Baragon and the Green's roar is Rodan's!
What's missing from the description of this video, is that War Of The Gargantuas is the sequel to the previous film, "Frankenstein Conquers The World", a very strange and surreal film in itself own right, as Toho delivers their own gigantic version of the Frankenstein Monster. See it if you can.
@Shawnster65 Well its not a direct sequel, more so in spirit. Since the character Frankenstein is never mentioned, and instead the "Gargantua" is the replacement.
@carnage4907 Oh no, they make a considerable amount of mention of the
relationship between Frankenstein and The Gargantuas (in the Japanese version.)
They even go as far as calling each one of them Frankenstein (followed by their names) and their cells are identical to those of Frankenstein. Frankie gets a lot of mention in the Japanese version.
I'm surprise YouTube don't have the movie, I would love too see it again...Last time I saw it i was a kid 44 years ago.

I'd love to have the green one's costume, and hide in some kid's closet until after dark. Bwah-ha-ha!

On the DVD if you watch it with English subtitles instead of dubbed English a lot of the story and dialogue is quite different.

All of these are classic St. afternoon memories but Monster Island still wins out for me. Thanks for the post and the memories.

@carnage4907 Frankenstein is mentioned. The sailor that survived called Gaira, "Frankenstein".
