I first heard Sam play piano on his hometown album. I must say, those compositions and his solos there are FAR more interesting. If Sam were to watch this video, he'd probably be pretty bored too. What is going on here?
@worldonastrng haha. obviously not a fan of jazz here? These solos build so tremendously, it's amazing just listening to this guy solo. Don't bash it cuz you don't understand.
I ain't feelin his funk in G major, nothing so inspiring on this cut. No real Melodic texture. What left hand Bass . Maybe it's on his Pee Pee . Zappa Lorber .This Organ Trio shit that has come on the seen lately I aint feeling . How did this guy get that Steely gig in NYC we're they kidding !!! I played better Funk in 11th Grade, He makes Medeski Martin & Wood sound tolerable.
Sam, a protege of Larry Goldings, is coming nicely into his own these days. Saw him with B Blade awhile back in Oakland with Bill Frissell and it was very cool. Think of the T Williams Lifetime Mk1 but with lower energy. Still great though.

Funky! Nothing beats the sound of a real Rhodes. Is that Joshua Redman hammering out some funky clavi lines, too?
