@TomFontana Also, when i vibrato should i release my thumb at the back of the neck? It helps me alot, but it feels like i'm dong it wrong, i just dont want to learn it the wrong way, vibrato is a big problem for me becouse i thought that you didn't have to bend the string fast and i just like vibrated my finger and now i'm used to that.
@Laukenpauken Well, you would want to have some sort of grasp on the neck, just so you stay in full control. If you release the guitar neck and just press down and wiggle the string, you would be pressing the neck towards yourself, and have to counteract that with your other hand or your body. Thats not really good.
@skullmetalheavy Yes, if you are bending the lower strings, but you don't do that very often. For the higher strings, you can't really bend downwards, since there isn't enough space. You can do small slurs though, there's space for that.
@2lwa7esh no, palm muting is not with the finger, but the outer edge of your palm. So it's just like if you were plucking normally, but you tilt the outer edge of your palm onto the strings, and keep on plucking like that.
@TomFontana@2lwa7esh i too was getting confused by palm muting 6:15 answered it for me...im gonna watch all of these tutorials, theyre the best iv come across on youtube...im a raw beginner just got an electric guitar no more than two days ago.
hey Im learning the intro to sweat child of mine. i play the notes the tab shows like it says but it doesnt sound as smooth or as good as when slash plays it. can you tell me why? or what i need to do so it sounds smooth? thanks please get back to me.
@kaiserCRG i didnt hear you play but im guesing that your timing is off. when you pick you have to make sure that your left fingers are already on the frets
I'm sorry, but you have scary but strong fingers. o_o.
I've got smaller fingertips and I have some problem with bending strings. When I bend, my finger doesn't manage to fully bend the string as much as you did on your video but it gets huddled beneath the string above. Probably it's because I use the tip of my finger to bend it up, is there any finger placement advice which would help me bend strings better and clearer?
@fallios You can reach up above the nut and start pressing down on the string rapidly, this has a vibrato effect. Or you could just play the same note on another string.
thats not palm muting, what I do there is raise my fretting hand fingers slightly, so I'm not fretting the strings anymore, but still touching them slightly to deaden the strings. So the extra strums in between the power chord are muted string strums, just touch the strings slightly with your fretting hand fingers, and you'll get it.
The (15) means that fret 15 will be a ghost or optional note.
The r in 5r3 means release a bend, so you would be start the note with a bend from fret 3 to fret 5, and there come the r, which just means you release back to fret 3.
hi umm i came across ur vid and im just wondering how do you get that "rock "sound like atthe no mute at 5:58 do i need a thing 4 my guitar of am i missing aomething ...its not whith muteing ....this lesson helprd me alot thx :)
Hi, I used an effects pedal to get that exact tone, but if you want to recreate it on just an amp, play the power chord under pretty heavy distortion using just the back pickup, and add a bit of delay as well, to get a slight echo.
It means that you are bending to the next note in the scale you are playing in. You need to know scale theory and note intervals to really understand this, but the point is that in every scale, you have a sequence of notes, given semitones and wholetones apart, and you need to bend to the next note in the scale, from where you are bending from.
Just keep at it, you'll get it soon. Remember to place just the edge of your palm onto the strings, as close to the bridge as possible. Pluck the power chords downwards, its harder to pluck upwards when palm muting.

@Laukenpauken As long as you're still in control of the guitar, its ok if it shakes slightly.

can you do vibrato on acoustic guitar?
suitelife101545 1 year ago
@suitelife101545 Yes, you can do vibrato just like with the electric guitar. Bending is harder on acoustic guitars though, but you can still do it.

what does 13(15) mean? and 5r3? what does r mean? thanks
fob593 2 years ago
Hey,
The (15) means that fret 15 will be a ghost or optional note.
The r in 5r3 means release a bend, so you would be start the note with a bend from fret 3 to fret 5, and there come the r, which just means you release back to fret 3.
Best, Tom
