My point of my two earlier posts was that I don't think the "obesity is not a disease" definition advocates think that obesity itself is a bad thing. I think they are angry at fat people who feel being fat is a bad thing but who then blame it on other things. I think the "obesity is not a disease" advocates would be perfectly content with fat people who were happy and contented with themselves.
I used to believe obesity had nothing to do with genes. But, as I learned more, I found more and more of it DOES have to do with gene. But, of course, I was that way on a LOT of things: believing MANY things had nothing to do with genes, but later learning (in biotech classes) that there ARE genes that INFLUENCE certain behavior: even religioisity!
That said: if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
Bottom line is: I don't see obesity as a problem. And it is GREATLY exaggerated as an "epidemic". BS!
obesity is caused by ignorance it is not a disease. We basically follow our parents when we are young and if they did not have a proper diet and did not exercise we will often follow these bad habits.

@AutumnTheHairStylist Hey Autumn.. it seems you misunderstood. Yes I'm obese, I fully admit it and talk about it in the video. What I object to is fat people blaming their obesity on 'a disease'. You dont go out and CATCH obesity, its an addiction therefore deeming it a condition. People who start smoking that later on realize that they're addicted never say "Damn, should've taken my ANTI-ADDICTION medicine, now I'm diseased." The same goes with drugs addicts, that is not a disease.

You are awesome, let me just say that, cause it's true.:)
Oh quick eating tip: Aparently foods that are high in sugar and fats don't send as many chemical messages to your brain that tell you your full as foods that are high in fiber, like leafy green veggies. I found that I can eat a small salad and get full much faster than something like a bag of chips. If you find yourself craving sweets, try eating a small salad :)
When you have sex, smoke cigs, do meth, you release chemicals in the brain that give you pleasure. The receivers in your brain that accepts this chemical and gives you good feelings.
BUT when you over eat, have sex all the time, smoke all the time, do meth all the time, your receptors try to respond by accepting more chemicals, so you need to eat more, smoke more, do meth more, just to get those 'good' feeling again.
@dexter1673138 Wooow let me take YOU on a journey!First of all all those things that you listed sex, method, figs are all ADICTIONS not diseases! So therefore obesity is a food ADDICTION!!you don't go and see people saying drugs addictions are a disease or sex addiction is a disease!yes there are certain chemicals that are released to give you pleasure feelings when you do all these things but It's a temptation feeling! You can stop but you're so used to feeling good you CANT stop!ADDICTION!!!!!
You seem to be quite a person, Rooby. It's good to see people dealing with weight issues coming to terms with not calling it a "disease" and so forth... that sort of excuse making only prevents change from occurring. You have your mind in the right place... what I'll say is this... don't compare yourself to others, because it leads to depressive thoughts and excuses, even subconsciously. Do it for you, and think of food as fuel, not a crutch. Good luck to you, girl.
How the hell is a disease an excuse?!!?!? Its NOT an excuse!!! In order to stop the illness one must receive the correct help. Get to the root of the problem.. What is wrong with everyone?!?!?! Why is it okay to be evil to fatty but just plain wrong to dis anorexics!!!??!! Both can DIE!!!
I shouldn't have said its a disease.. What I should have said its an illness... Obese people don't just eat because its a habit... There are many other reasons too.. Sometimes emotionally.. Which, if someone eats to fill avoid (which is usually because they don't get the emotional support or love) then clearly that is an illness and emo prob... They need to learn how to cope with those feelings ...but how? :p
It's all about self-control and self-discipline. The same applies to everything else. I think I'm losing it, though. I'm starting to grow a tire around my gut, and now I'm punishing myself by running and lifting weights.
I agree with you 100% as a former big girl myself..i beleive food addiction is very much real and i beleive them when they say obesity is an epedemic but ive never ever said it was a disease and that i couldnt help it.

I'm an on again off again stoner. I quit for years or months depending then smoke the same.I felt like you were talking about my addiction too:)
I used to go through an anorexia eating disorder and it only made me feel more miserable. I would say if you choose to lose weight, make sure you're doing it for yourself and your health and not because society is making you feel guilty for being who you are. Great vid, Sarah!
6 years of bulimia and I can tell you it does you so much damage. Probably the biggest mistake I have ever made. Even a year on from recovery I still feel like shit and the damage done to my teeth and heart is insane.
i think because everyone is so different it only makes sense that anyone who wants to loose weight should do it a way tailored to them. i would say, don't deny urself the sweets and things just count ur calories for the day and when u reach ur limit don't eat anything else. even if that means you can't have dinner, just do it. i bet after a while ull want ur dinner and not eat too much to early. i dunno just an idea. i think you look lovely by the way =)
everybodys really different about this stuff. like i think most people, you included, like the feeling of being full, but for some odd reason i never could stand it. i also don't get hungry, in times of stress i've gone as much as 3 days without eating anything simply because i forgot.
I've beat most all addictions except food and i usually except for drinking cokes eat pretty healthy fruits and vegs and all that jazz but i like having to much of them just as much as i like to much of the sweets i tend to not notice till after im done eating but sometimes i'll have two, three ,and sometimes four servings of my evening meal i really need to drop some weight too though i'm over 140 pounds or about 10 stone overweight.
Diets don't work, in my opinion. PORTION sizes, are the way to go. I also love sugar and potato chips are my weakness, it's horrible. I have started exercising this week and I'm hoping to get rid of the last 20 pounds that I'm holding onto...
I love food, but I've done well for not eating sweets. I had my one coke for the week, and I'm going to push myself to not drink coke as much (which I have been doing) but it's nice to have one occasionally. Drink mostly water! I have also been cooking meals every day and eating fruit from cans because fresh fruit can be a bit pricey. All I need to do is incorporate working out again, which I will. :) Oh, and pooping is heaven! Don't take laxatives, but it's nice to feel some weight come off. ;)
Food is not an addiction, it's a need! I think us fat fucks need to just adopt 'balance' as an addiction. The more crap you eat, the more you exercise to counteract the effects. Most of us use our busy life's as an excuse to not get enough exercise! Fact is, use 45 minutes of internet or tv time, get off our asses and go walk around! I've been doing that lately...it's freaking hard!!! But, the older I get the more necessary it becomes...
I am so lucky I have this disorder and a super fast metabolism because I LOVE FOOD! Food is like my life! I have just related to everything you've just said. I walked to Tesco's at 11:30 last night to buy Hagen Dasz icecream because it wouldn't come out of my mind!
@AskParisHarvard That's exactly it, Paris. I haven't done it in a long time but near where I used to live was a 24 hour garage. Heaven for a foodie. I would quite often take a trip down there at midnight for something yummy :)
I try not to do anything that has the word "die" in it...LOL I lost 42 pounds by not drinking sodas, not eating/drinking anything that had high fructose corn syrup, and staying away from dairy products. It was difficult since dairy is my downfall, cheese in particular...LOL But for the most part, it was easy to do and relatively quick to let my body balance itself back. Which reminds me...I need to "balance" again...:-) xx
yep been there, done that. it's still something you have to fight everyday. i think it's the hardest addiction to change, because you have to have food to live, it's not something you can avoid completely.
I hate dieting >: I try all the time but I'm 5foot 0 so I can eat barely anything and it sticks to me like if I ate something really fattening. I always give up on the diets because it's always in my house, if I had my way my whole family would be eating healthier but it's just always in the cupboards. You're absolutely right, people who say it's a disease are just making excuses instead of accepting the way they are or doing something about it
i hate trying to eat right i always end up collapsing im 6'1 and 17 st i was 23 but still i get the worst types of hungeer like for meat lots and lots of meat i see a cooked chien in asda and the back of my head is screaming "get it eat it!!!!!"

GOD, I hate semantics. I don't give a damn whether people call obesity or alcohol addiction or sex addition a "disease" or "sickness" or not.
Seems that those who prefer to classify it as NOT a disease have FAR stronger feelings about that than those who DO prefer to classify it thusly.
So, I defer to those with the stronger feelings on the subject.
