When putting it like that, I agree. The V10 is a monster, but when comparing it with the Nissan this car is like... Nothing. One's a coupe and the other is a sedan. They've both got room for four and have a trunk. But the RS6 isn't even a supercar while the Nissan is more than a supercar. Besides, there's a lot of tuning potential in the Nissan too, there's loads with more than 800 HP with the V6 installed.
@TheKiwiLord agreed. the guys over in japan know how to give a lot to their cars technologically. but still the germans know their stuff. and aftermarket can transform both hugely. i do feel this car is a bit overweight though and i would prefer an RS4 (if you could fit this v10 in) :P

Harris is great. You would ask him for advice on buying a car. He pretty much covers everything, and doesn't seem to have that overblown ego that many car journalists have, where they really just want to show how good they are at driving.
Whenever i get a Dominos pizza and im specing the base and toppings to my taste, the price always gets steep and chris harris comes into my head going "so if youve got a large hawiian and you put a dominator crust on it and a few toppings...you could easily have a 15, 16 quid pizza....that's becoming a very expensive pizza".

@timpetricca not at all old boy. If you live in Gewrmany it makes perfectly good sense. High speed crusing on the Autobahn for 800 Kilometers is extremely pleasing and you get out at the other end feeling like you have done nothing. And one in a while you just take it up to very high speeds feeling just great. Can't be described... and you've got all your stuff with you.

Wow never read or seen a review by Chris, I'm an EVO reader and thought I'd never be tempted to go elsewhere but tis was a great 'tell it how it is' review. It helps that I love Audi's and have two on the drive as we speak but it was the review that impressed me here. None of those completely unrelated Clarkson opinions (loves Jags/Astons over any Germanic car etc.) just the facts and the important bits for somebody considering buying a car in this league. Top work!

Well, Lamborghini IS Audi. It's the same company – or, at least, Lamborghini is a subsidiary of Audi, which is itself a subsidiary of Volkswagen group.
Almost every leading car manufacturer has a supercar to show for, and VW buying lamborghini 3 years ago has nothing to do with how a lambo is engineered. The ’11 R8 has only 420 bhp.. It’s a nice car, yet incomparable to any ’11 ferrari or lambo. And guess what? The R8 uses a Lamborghini gallardo’s engine platform, and is made by Audi’s subsidiary company ‘quattro GmbH’. Actually, both Audi and Lamborghini are owned by Volkswagen so there is quite a lot of component sharing.
The V-10 engine used in both Audis and Lamborghinis is the same engine block. The heads are different but that's only because Lamborghini prefers their four-valve design while VW/Audi favor a five-valve design.
Another clue is the 90° V angle. That's odd for a V10 designed from scratch but perfectly understandably if you consider Audi's existing V8 engine.
This RS6 is by far better than E63 yet alone M5 not to mention its one of the best productions ever made. Its just built perfectly so simple yet again brutal and fantastic.
The RS4 is a smaller car therefore it would weigh less and has smaller powerplant. I would guess one of the main reasons people buy the RS4 Avant is because the Porsche /Ferrari whatever has to go when kids arrive. The problem is it isn't big enough at the back for two kids and a second passenger. The RS6 can fit a second passenger with reasonable comfort in the back. This is probably embarrassing banter but the reason I couldn't have a V10 R8 is practicality.
The RS6 is partly made from steel, whereas the M5 is made entirely from aluminium. So there's more weight. An RS6 is AWD, so there's another 100kgs or so. And finally it has an automatic, which is going to weigh more than the M5's SMG.
So when you add it all up, the RS6 may be very heavy, but it's heavy because of what it is over the M5. Know what I mean? But still the RS4 was much lighter, so Audi don't have many excuses...
Nobody get me wrong, I wasn't knocking the RS6 - I'd love one. But my point was that there's a reason why it weighs so much, and when you compare it to the M5 Touring, you can see how it became so heavy.
But I like the RS6 better than the M5. Though I wouldn't go past an E63.
So would, I but the R8 costs another forty grand and you can't get more than a washbag and a change of underpants in the boot. They are each in a different sector, appealing to a different target market.
It is a heavy car and it will never feel like an R8, however, it is a fabulous car to drive and beautifully built. I like both and would have both if I won the lottery. The R8 would be really good for track days.
well, same here, i guess. if i had enough money to have both, you can bet that i would take them. but id rarely have anything to do that the R8 couldnt handle, so if i could only have one, it would be my car of choice.
It's actually perfect car. I can drive with my family, with our staff on the boot wich is very big and I can overtake Lamborghini Gallardo on motorway.
I wish they sold the fast Avant models here in the USA, ever since Volvo stopped making the V70R its hard finding a performance wagon over on this side of the pond.
Trouble is the US has such a devisive spec requirement for imported vehicles, I could be cynical and call it protectionism. Compared to a Volvo anything the RS6 is in a completely different league - would be perfect for your market.

Like the Scooby RX wagon was just a bad idea, but c'mon, this is just leagues better than any other wagon there is. I'd take one in a heartbeat, this is just one of those few cars that looks good as a wagon.
im not necessarily saying that wagons deserve a bad rep. i drive one, and its actually pretty fast for a saturn (yes, im cheap), but people think stock sedan models are much betterm, even if theyre slower. unless something radical happens, performance wagons are never going to sell very well here, simply because people refuse to believe that they can be fast.
In the USA, yeah, true. But I've seen a few comments here and there around here about some people who'd like one over there. I'm Australian, by the way, and there is somewhat a market for performance wagons here.

Well, you are both wrong and right. If you live in the us a ton is 907.2kg - also known as a short ton. If you live in the UK and hasent taken the metric system to your heart a ton i 1016 kg - also known as a long ton. However, Sence hi is talking about kg (kilos) in the clip he probbaby refferes to what you lot would call a metric ton, but what the rest of us just calls a "ton" and that is exactly 1000 kg.

if they could make 450 hp / l ( 551.5 hp / l record ) on a tuned car , means Audi can make 116 hp / l on a stock car
dont have to mention the 100 hp / l at the 1983 Audi 200 Quattro 20V ( 2.2 Turbo ) and the 145 hp/ l at the 1984 Audi Sport Quattro ( 2.1 306 hp )

Wow never read or seen a review by Chris, I'm an EVO reader and thought I'd never be tempted to go elsewhere but tis was a great 'tell it how it is' review. It helps that I love Audi's and have two on the drive as we speak but it was the review that impressed me here. None of those completely unrelated Clarkson opinions (loves Jags/Astons over any Germanic car etc.) just the facts and the important bits for somebody considering buying a car in this league. Top work!

Like comon' the car looks like a station wagon my grandfather would drive, except with the extreme horespower that would make for a quick way to heaven. This car as quoted by Chris Harris is a "family car", and if not for the 572 bhp, would be driven by families altogether. Any car enthusiast or racer would never pick this shitmobile over an exotic car like a lambo or ferrari..Plain and simple.

show for, as your criteria of comfort for family, reliability, and speed of a station wagon completely defeats the purpose of “wealth”. Nobody buys a comfortable car with 572 bhp to be used for family outings lol. ..and if you were to have that kind of money, you wouldn’t mind spending the extra dollar on maintenance or repairs which btw are quite damn expensive on an audi rs6 as well. So your point is opinionated and can only be logically confirmed if you had that kind of money to play with.

The reason the latter received those names as cars was because of their history and legacy of being top performance cars with the luxury, class, and look that you cannot compare to a fucking audi lol. The price of an rs6 is roughly the same as a Gallardo.. a car anyone would drive over a ridiculously priced audi. Telling me you would buy this over a Lambo/Ferrari simply proves the fact that you don’t have the kind of money to

Well, Lamborghini IS Audi. It's the same company – or, at least, Lamborghini is a subsidiary of Audi, which is itself a subsidiary of Volkswagen group.

Almost every leading car manufacturer has a supercar to show for, and VW buying lamborghini 3 years ago has nothing to do with how a lambo is engineered. The ’11 R8 has only 420 bhp.. It’s a nice car, yet incomparable to any ’11 ferrari or lambo. And guess what? The R8 uses a Lamborghini gallardo’s engine platform, and is made by Audi’s subsidiary company ‘quattro GmbH’. So finally, don’t talk when you clearly don’t know anything.

Actually, both Audi and Lamborghini are owned by Volkswagen so there is quite a lot of component sharing.
The V-10 engine used in both Audis and Lamborghinis is the same engine block. The heads are different but that's only because Lamborghini prefers their four-valve design while VW/Audi favor a five-valve design.
Another clue is the 90° V angle. That's odd for a V10 designed from scratch but perfectly understandably if you consider Audi's existing V8 engine.

The RS4 is a smaller car therefore it would weigh less and has smaller powerplant. I would guess one of the main reasons people buy the RS4 Avant is because the Porsche /Ferrari whatever has to go when kids arrive. The problem is it isn't big enough at the back for two kids and a second passenger. The RS6 can fit a second passenger with reasonable comfort in the back. This is probably embarrassing banter but the reason I couldn't have a V10 R8 is practicality.

Well, let's do a little math (sorry!):
The RS6 is partly made from steel, whereas the M5 is made entirely from aluminium. So there's more weight. An RS6 is AWD, so there's another 100kgs or so. And finally it has an automatic, which is going to weigh more than the M5's SMG.
So when you add it all up, the RS6 may be very heavy, but it's heavy because of what it is over the M5. Know what I mean? But still the RS4 was much lighter, so Audi don't have many excuses...

Nobody get me wrong, I wasn't knocking the RS6 - I'd love one. But my point was that there's a reason why it weighs so much, and when you compare it to the M5 Touring, you can see how it became so heavy.
But I like the RS6 better than the M5. Though I wouldn't go past an E63.

It is a heavy car and it will never feel like an R8, however, it is a fabulous car to drive and beautifully built. I like both and would have both if I won the lottery. The R8 would be really good for track days.

well, same here, i guess. if i had enough money to have both, you can bet that i would take them. but id rarely have anything to do that the R8 couldnt handle, so if i could only have one, it would be my car of choice.

Trouble is the US has such a devisive spec requirement for imported vehicles, I could be cynical and call it protectionism. Compared to a Volvo anything the RS6 is in a completely different league - would be perfect for your market.

actually, the main problem might be that the RS6 would be considered a station wagon, which i guess it is. and nobody would want a performance wagon. they just have a very bad rep.

Yeah, bad rep, but this car changes that. By being over-the-top and rediculously fast for what it is. Both things that I love.
Like the Scooby RX wagon was just a bad idea, but c'mon, this is just leagues better than any other wagon there is. I'd take one in a heartbeat, this is just one of those few cars that looks good as a wagon.

im not necessarily saying that wagons deserve a bad rep. i drive one, and its actually pretty fast for a saturn (yes, im cheap), but people think stock sedan models are much betterm, even if theyre slower. unless something radical happens, performance wagons are never going to sell very well here, simply because people refuse to believe that they can be fast.

its not like this here in germany.. almost everyone knows how fast a station wagon can be. not only because of super-cars like M5's or RS6's. there are plenty of station wagons that are faster than normal sedans. depends on the engine. 530d's, A6 3,0T, E350 T-Model..

Well, you are both wrong and right. If you live in the us a ton is 907.2kg - also known as a short ton. If you live in the UK and hasent taken the metric system to your heart a ton i 1016 kg - also known as a long ton. However, Sence hi is talking about kg (kilos) in the clip he probbaby refferes to what you lot would call a metric ton, but what the rest of us just calls a "ton" and that is exactly 1000 kg.
