@haropro2 heheheh 27 octave range, this one made me laugh :) yes, it's the 7 string guitar, 8 octave range (yes, it could easily be the most powerful single-necked guitar ever - when it comes to range) and it definitely does have a unique sound - warmer than his Strat, it can soar, weep, dance, laugh, be wrathful, angry, can shapeshift from a country-styled guitar (Rodeo from Hell) to a dramatic life-ender (Transfiguration), both examples are in the same musical piece, Metamorphosis Concerto :)
@BierGier I wouldn't listen to Haropro2 when it comes to specs. It has 32 frets, after the 27th it goes in whole tone steps. The humbuckers are actually quadruple coils smushed together in a passive humbucker size (one in the neck below the fret board and in the bridge). It has an 8 octave range if you buy the 7 string version. It's about $10000 by Dean and only a handful are being made.
Barry's bass is a Carvin LB76. Yes, I'm a gear junkie. And Uli is not simply a rock guitarist, here I was capable to hear influences from blues, Stravinsky, Vivaldi, and even Schubert. Uli Jon Roth is a gifted composer who plays an awesome Sky guitar. And no one else does as well as himself.
@kklmjk Not only Uli puts Yngwie to shame, but Yngwie has still got a lot of homework to do if he's to emulate Uli's work. Yngwie himself said that Uli Roth has been his main playing influence (Blackmore was his stage appearance model), but while Uli did constantly change and evolve since his years with the Scorpions, Yngwie (imo) sounds like Uli's 'Sails of Charon' on steroids and sped-up over and over.... :)
hes a good player but man i wasnt gettin too much out of the fact that the guy said 'blues and rock welcome' there is nothing blues about uli's style, hardly rock even, just classical with a marshall stack. and he's definitely knocking off that jii hendrix gypsy thing...which is kinda cool though i admit, he does it his way like a pirate or rsomething, but still man....'rock and blues welcome'? thats too much
just cause he plays guitar, and has a marshall doesnt make him rock. I dont know what kinda 'rock' youre on my friend...rock is chuck berry, the stones stuff like that...this is too 'nice' and easy listening, no friction my friend.
id like ay of you proponents of this wankery to go watch a video of mclaughlin, frusciante, or any other real guitarist and still be able to truthfully tell me that this guy's overuse of the trem is "feeling"
OMFG in this performance he has such an extreme feeling...He is clearly one to be mentioned amongst the greatest ever...I cant stop watching this...WOW what a god!
Uli, is a frigging groundbreaker. Just listen to the early Scorpion albums. I first heard him back in 1977 and I was blown away. True a little late in his early star, but I'm glad I was a fan back then and now. Maybe a little sloppy, but his albums are flawless. But if you understand what he's playing on the guitar, it would be impossible to create every note perfectly.
was there and he was awesome!!!! so pleased to of found this footage on here as it was ana amazing experiance seeing him play at the rock and blues custom show...totaly awesome!!!
The people that are calling him sloppy and not as good as the other famous guitarist, have to to come to this realization that they themselves can't play guitar and are tone deft. Also that the greatest guitarists of today look up to him and consider him to be one of the greatest, such as Malmsteen.
zx I agree. I doubt if any of them can play at all. This guy pretty much invented this style over 30 years ago. If anyone can play better post a video. We would all like to see it.
whoever is saying taht's sloppy, I guess he needs to get a clue. Uli spent almost 40 years playing guitar. and most of these new technical guitarists of recent years are influenced with ULI.
malmsteen!

Malmsteen ripped this guy too.SMH Either Uli or Ritchie Blackmore invented neo-classical.

This video is great, but does not compare to seeing him play live. His tone live is one of the best today.

BierGier 2 years ago
@BierGier Dean Guitars make it, it costs about $10000 USD, but I doubt its anything like his, i.e. 42 frets, 4 humbuckers, 27octave range etc.

that's so close-minded.
i'm not saying that it's rock just because he has a guitar and a marshall. plus, this is just one composition of MANY - which all vary in styles.
pivotn00b 4 years ago
yeah i agree he is diverse...but this being worthy of the big ROCK AND BLUES welcome, thats very debatable.
RNRDOLL 4 years ago
Well... he doesn't play "rock"... he himself admits that. In fact, he thinks of his music as in a class of its own. Not classical, not rock, etc.
Anyway, he is definetely TOO MUCH for this crappy festival.
