  • Speaking in tongues, as what happened on the day of pentacost . Was the evidence of the presense of the Holy spirit . The problem I have is that people are ignorent. and start babbling . the mirical was everone therer that day understaood what was being said in every language f the world at once, No confusion is what people are in today when they try to speajk in tonugs.

  • the bible also says taht you arent supposed to speak it in church unless their is someone to translate you are very right!

  • yeh i thought it was pretty cool and i asked someoen at church who did it and she said to start to coo like a baby and like be innocent like a child to god but then i was reading the bible and you arent supposed to push it............you will get the gifts you get!

  • I'm Pentecostal, yet Calvinist and I speak in tongues. If I had to choose one, I'd remain Pentecostal. They have more of a connection than Calvinists. Look at their passion, they way they speak, and their worship. That being said, people who received the Spirit prophesy or praised God. it also came with a rushing wind; all this was seen in the OT; speaking in tongues is the only "new" thing; this is important to note It's not selfish to worship in tongues in a service. I wish all spoke in them

  • Fan into flame the gift of the Holy Spirit, "be holy as I am holy",God declares. You must live in obedience or you are decieving yourself and greiving the Holy Spirit. Read parable of the ten virgins, two types of "christian", 5 filled with HS, 5 not.

  • Seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit daily. Paul encouraged Christians to seek all the gifts. Jesus said to be continuously filled with the Holy Spirit (whoever drinks from Me will never thirst). All gifts are from God and are good. Nonbelievers who speak in tongues speak by an evil spirit.

  • Pentecostals I'm afraid place way to much emphasis on that gift. I've witnessed that myself. It can be a form of spiritual pride, showing off. I've seen it on display before and could tell the person was "showing off". It was funny that as a person who came from a Baptist background I had the gift and there were Pentecostals that didn't. Paul said it was the least of the gifts if I remember correctly.

  • Hey man i like your video. I believe that speaking in tongues is the evidence of receiving the holy ghost, which is part of the salvation plan. The gift of tongues is different than speaking in tongues. The holy ghost is for everyone and when they get it they will speak in tongues. The gift of tongues is for few... two or three...and one interpret. The gift of tongues is one of the nine gifts of the spirit. They are two different things. Just a thought for you. Thanks.

  • Hey i like your video, but speaking in tongues the evidence of receiving the holy ghost. This is part of the salvation plan. The holy ghost is for everyone and when they get it they will speak in tongues. The gift of tongues is one of the nine gifts given in 1st Cor. They are two different things. Maybe you could just take a look and see if that opens your eyes any. In my church i have seen both of these. Thanks.

  • I really agree with your thoughts on accepting what God has given you and if God doesn't bestow tongues, that is fine with you. Great job fellow Calvinist.

  • this video was a little vague. i don't understand y u stopped seeking it. and who else speaks in tongues besides christians?

  • @bassclef2012 - Pagans, Wiccans, certain Hindus, etc. have practices of speaking in tongues.

I stopped seeking the gift because 1. there are better gifts 2. I need to be happy with what God gives me.

  • @bassclef2012

Most new age cults do, also Charismatic Catholics and mormons also

  • I think that both of your videos are great. I am glad that you took time to read the scriptures and learn more about edifying the body of christ. Don't ever give up on the gift of speaking in tongues. I believe you will receive it. I believe God knows what is best for you right now and right now you are walking in your gift. Did you see how many people have seen your videos? You know how many lives you are touching and people who are engaging in conversation because of your post?

  • why is my comment not Posting? ughhhhh

  • I saw the first video and i lost my patience very quickly when u started mentioning "pentecostal ect" and I am happy i skipped it to this one and even more content with what you are seeking " love" and " faith" that is what we are here for, to LOVE.. I say you erased all the B.s these religious people tell us and just READ READ READ READ.

  • At first I viewed your previous video only up to the part about baptist pentecostal stufff.. honestly i lost my patience Good Job, For seeking LOVE and Faith. That is what were here for to LOVE

  • ...went to the bank and it was cleared up! Not a penny owed. Actually we walked out with $35 in the positive :)

  • also the time on your video 6:10 holds a lot of significance to me. I know it sounds weird and may just be a coincidence , but I've been praying about what all the 10s mean. So many strange occurrences with that number! I'll be feeling down, telling God how I feel uncomfortable in whatever situation, go to ask my fiance what the time is and boom! 10:10

It's like an "I love you!" It happens so often. We got in debt $210, prayed about it, had faith that God would take care of it....

  • @thegreenestdart - A little bit of coincidences, and a lot of mysticism.

  • @JoelTheCalvinist explain? I know I might read too much into it sometimes and it sounds silly, but sometimes I really don't think so

  • @thegreenestdart - What I mean is, sometimes people try to find God in decoding things, like the DaVinci Code or something, when he teaches us in Scripture.. but people overlook that. This kind of thinking is what drives people to have a very strange view of Revelation.

Not to be mean or anything, but do you happen to also like the Left Behind series?

  • @JoelTheCalvinist No, I know that the Left Behind series is not biblical. I don't believe in the rapture, but used to as a child. The 10s and the dimes (wow I've got a lot of stories about those and how He used something so small to bring me back to Him. If you're curious, message me. If not it's ok..again I know it sounds silly and some people have laughed it off) are a me and God think. Like a God "wink" or an inside joke

  • Thanks for clearing this up. I go to a church that is filled with the Holy Spirit, but one of our pastors likes to emphasize speaking in tongues above all gifts as if you are not saved unless you do. I remember him praying for my fiance and I to receive the Holy Spirit (I had already received it though as a child, just wanted to draw closer to God) and then while we were praying he said something like "now speak in tongues". We just started babbling uncomfortably, it was so awkward!

  • @thegreenestdart - Remember, the Holy Spirit is a HE and He is the 3rd member of the Godhead -- he is God.

  • @JoelTheCalvinist wow that was a quick response! Yeah I didn't mean to say "it" but "He". I gotcha

  • Good video. I would add one thing, though. The true gift of tongues, just as all gifts, was never used for self-edification. All gifts of the Spirit are for the edification of the Church. When Paul talked about edifying oneself with tongues, he was addressing a false gift of tongues that had crept into the Corinth. Church. Pagans had a ritual in which they would use incoherent babblings. Some new Christians confused true tongues for what they did as Pagans & brought in into the Church.

  • I think what you said about seeking other gifts is awsome but I would encourage you to not stop seeking for the Spirit. It is not something that "deadins your mind", I believe it has the opportunity to draw you closer to God, which we should always strive to do. What do you mean by higher gifts? all gifts from God are higher. haha. N-e-way. It is very interesting what you are saying but I must say it almost sounds like you are down playing the Holy Spirit and you should be careful with that.

  • Great job, bro. I too go to a church that leans to the more charismatic side, and have desired the gift of tongues, but have never received it. No biggie. We're a body, we have different gifts. Doesn't mean we have not been filled with God's Spirit, just that it doesn't manifest itself that way. Beautiful, the body and the complementarity of parts. And yes! Pursue the higher gifts! Prophecy! Pursue love! Faith! Hope! Jesus is our sweet Shepherd King. May he guide us to a deeper understanding.

  • Nice, I like what you say about love and faith being higher gifts, makes me think of paul's passage on how we can do all sorts of amazing things, but if there's no love, it's all useless. Galatians 5:22-23 comes to mind too, those are the fruits of the Holy Spirit. I will also second what someone below commented, that it's good to recognize tongues as a gift of the Spirit even if we haven't ever received it.

  • @MsChristiangroup I was just studying this passage a day before reading your comment and I believe that if you look in verse 21 it says "In the law" at the beginning which would mean that the "unbelievers" spoke of in verse 22 which is connected with a "Wherefore" would probably be Jews. Also read thoroughly down to verse 25. How was a believer converted? Through prophecy.

thanx just thoughts to add to discussion

  • In the last eighteen years of following Christ, I have been used in 3 gifts of healing (1 miraculous), 1 word of knowledge, and about a gabillion words of wisdom. Not once I have ever moved in the gift of tongues however, nor in interpretation or even whatever one might call the discerning of spirits. What I understand from Scripture though is that these are first and foremost gifts given by grace. And second, they are all manifestations of the Spirit's Presence, rather than "things" He gives

  • I agree with Joel . I have run into people that speak in tongues but dont know what they are saying. I respect the language of tongues but for me, Love and praying is my tool that God gave me to spread to others. And I dont care if evil surrounds me to hear what I have to say, as I beleive my words and prayer to God is very powerful.

  • Good points about other things being more needful. I like the fact that even though you have never spoken in tongues you still recognize it as a gift of the Holy Spirit; a lot of people who have never spoken will not do this and/or will not step away from denominational ties to freely interpret the Bible. I myself am on the gap denominationally on this subject.

  • Although I believe in tongues I do not believe in the born again or spirit filled attributes to tongues. I knew I was saved for several years before I ever spoke in tongues and that just came slowly. Now sometimes if I wish I can pray in tongues if my natural words have left me or feel redundant at times....it is a blessing and a refreshing. Joel God Bless and just walk with God and you won't miss anything :-)

  • Nice video, Joel. Good point on love and faith being more desirable gifts than tongues.

  • I agree here Joel.
