@MrStryperfan they generally want someone with experience on a hotshot crew just because wild lands fire fighting is tough as hell to begin with, also try to get wildlands medic/emt and that will help
Type 2 IA - Often times T2IA crews are feeders for Hotshot crews. Usually they are Initial Attack organized crews, alot like Hotshots, held to the same standards, only they lack the certs. Hop on a T2IA crew and they will get you certs if you earn them, HecM, FAL A-C, Squad Boss, Crew Boss, IC5, e.t.c
There are alot of certs that come with being a Hotshot, and it takes some time to get them usually.
wow, all I gotta say is thank you to whoever made this video. I'm in the business, though not a smoke jumper, but the USFS none the less. this video really hits home. and for all those out there who do this with me, let's hope 2008 is an awsome season.
Feel sorry for these guys. Most guys I run into down there in the states are almost getting themselves killed half the time from lack of training from the government system. I think they should be paid more for there efforts.
This was the Discoverys channel's version of "the deadliest catch for fire fighting. The smokejumpers are out of RAC (Redmond (oregon) air center). The shot crew with the blue helmets are the prineville hotshots. Rest of the crews, Helitack, engine, and one or two other shot crews are all out of california some where. and note to skibum895 you better be in damn good physical shape if this is what you want to do because it is damn hard on your body, and some times more on the mental side.
One of the tags says "redmund" so I imagine they're from the Redmund, OR base. I jumped from the Missoula base for three summers. This video captures the flavor, especially on big fires.
where can I watch the full thing?
