  • The cause of the accident was similar to that of the ICE crash in Eschede Germany in 1998 right?

  • @USofMilitaryPower94 : No, in facts; Eschede accident was a technical failure from whell of ICE1 train, with new whell absolutely not yet tested for high speed.

In Cumbrian, it seems to be a failure from route at an aiguillage.

  • They have replaced 033 with 054

  • @smokey2611 :(x 4

  • awww poor pendolino! :(

  • @niconet90 What about the people you sad train spotter

  • @MrScotia omg i meen the people to

  • First time I have seen this and I must say what a f****** sad, lost a vacant plum you must be!

  • This was the first fatal accident on board a mainline train in Britain for over two years and the first for almost five for which the rail industry were directly to blame - and also the last. Although one life lost is one too many, that's still a pretty impressive record!

  • i hope the embankment is ok :)

  • I feel sorrry for driver

  • hmmmm 1 down 53 to go...

  • To be honest, this incident wasn't that much different from the Potters Bar crash. I know the guy who signed off the points that caused the PB crash, and to this day it is still a touchy subject for him. It must have hit the guy who had signed those points off quite hard. For him to think that he is the reason it derailed.

What I don't understand though. How the hell is this Class 390 'Pendolino' a locomotive? There is no locomotive to be seen on the train. It is an Electric Multiple Unit (EMU)

  • how did the pendolino crash

  • @gbrailwayclub set of points opened under it

  • @gbrailwayclub It went over a faulty set of points, I was on the train at the time of the derailment i consider nyself very lucky to be alive.

  • It's sad that anybody died, but if it was just 1 death....that's impressive !

  • Comment removed

  • @Alistair627 yess... we all beleive you......

  • lol, tears of joy stream down my face

  • tragic. what can you say. i'd like to know what the cause was... and it's true... speed kills!

  • 1 sadly dead out of HUNDREDS on that Pendolino. That's a testament to the excellent structural integrity of the vehicle. No windows were smashed, no one was thrown from the train. Which I think is owed to BR from MK3 coaches, and ALL the APT project data collected which ultimately went into BR Mark 4 rollings stock. The Italians owe us a lot. However, if someone wants to correct me I welcome it.

  • @robthemod58 the only problem ive read with the mk3s is if they have a side on impact they will just fold cause all their strength is from front to back along the length of the coach

i could be wrong though so dont quote me :S

  • audio swap is bull shit

  • sorrry for the people on the train but why the fuck do a tribute to virgin for a train crash things like this hapend all the time and some times it happens by people putting objects on the rail

  • No Pendolino has yet been involved in high speed collisions despite Branson's "built like a tank" comments. This one was a derailment that caused it to roll down the embankment.

  • Network Rail are going to pay off 2500 of their staff to "cut costs". Why wont they learn that this sort of action can only lead to neglect and sadly another train crash like this. They are just waiting for another crash to happen and unfortunatly, it wont be them who suffer, just the people and their friends and families of those on the train. The airline industry has had this happen to them and its going to happen to the rail industry also.

The railway industry can never be too safe.

  • Sory.Nawet najlepszym pociągom zdaża się wykoleic.

  • A virgin train is the same as any other of the same class, just really bad luck it happened to this one, if it hadn't been this one it could have been an older train and maybe more lives would have been lost.

  • daniel powter song bad day

  • Hi there i was on the train in front of this crash it was my train that broke the rails the last to carridges on my train went over the broken rails we were really lucky that our train didnt go off.

  • ha ha ha ha ha i dout it man that you were on it.

  • Some ones got to be on the train infrount othewize it wouldn't bother runing

  • Actually it would run in case someone wanted to get on at a different station.

  • Gotta be bullshit. It would have sent the signals behind your train to danger.

  • did they get rid of them after that?

  • OMG this is so heartbreaking. The Pendolino is one of the most beautiful things ever to run on rails and it's supposed to be the safest as well. I feel so horrible for the people on board, thinking it was going to be a safe journey on the beautiful thing.

Do we know what loco number that was and what caused the crash?

  • Pendolino 390 033 'City of Glasgow'.

  • what is the name of song?

  • Na this is one of the best train serves there is. I when from London to Burnham on the pendolino no problems.

  • so what virgin trains had a crash that does not mean we should not travel on them they are a good train oprater.

  • Im riding this to devon in a few days :|

    second thoughts...

  • erm why? =/ at 1 point or another there will have been a crash somewhere along a line you have travelled on years ago it's perfectly safe... we barely have 1 train crash a year and even that is stretching it quite a bit the only person that died was a old woman which is understandable at that fragile age

  • that train realy had a bad day what happond???

  • Virgin Trains Class 390 'Pendolino' unit 390033, named 'City of Glasgow', was working the 17:15 Virgin Trains service from London Euston to Glasgow Central on Saturday 23rd February 2007 when at around 20:30 when it had just left Oxenholme Lake District railway station in Cumbria, it derailed as it went round the bend in a small village called Grayrigg in the Kendal area of Cumbria. Faulty points were said to be the cause of the accident, not driver error. A 66-year-old woman from Carstairs

  • hu iz the guy in the picture?

  • The first picture?... Its richard branson, the guy who kinda owns everything Virgin. So not a good day to see one of his trains in a field...

  • sir ricard branson-manerger of virgin industrys

  • this videos pritty gd just goin on bout virgin but the Pendalono is NOT the safest train around

In japan theres a train called the Bullet Train which had got little metal thingys under the track 2 keep it goin smothly and it can also go over 200 mph due to it

  • great video ive watched this loads of times and think its bril.Nice music by the way.

  • my friends dad drives pendolinos and everybody that knew him was ringing to ask if he was driving by the R.I.P. to the woman that lost her life.

  • obviously not as safe as air travel!

  • 1 Person lost her life at the traincrash! Compare that with a planecrash that immediatly kills hundreds of lifes, and that a few times a year. Pleeease!

  • I was there the night of the crash as i work for the fire service, it is very scary going into the unknown, searching carriages in pitch black for who knows what. Longest night ever of searching and praying. Well done to all involved for the team work and efforts

  • What did you do to help?

  • @shrimpboyz I dont think he was there

  • R.I.P To the lady who losted here life !!!

  • That crash made me wonder, when I came home from a holiday, I was on a Voyager (4 coach) from Penzance to Brimingham New Street/Wolverhampton. The train was severly crowded out, people were standing in the coaches and sitting down in the vestubles. I know trains do get packed and people have to stand but this was beyond belief. Anyway If a crash like this happened with a crowded out Voyager like I mentioned then I could not imagine the amount of dead or injured there would be.

  • There would be less dead and injured i think. The bodies would reduce everybody elses impact and stop people flying round the carriage. The only issue you'd have is one of luggage flying.

  • :-0 sad

  • a ''big'' sorry from Greece...

  • I feel sad for the people and families that were hurt. I also feel sad to see this amazing machine in such a sorry state and that it has dented virgin's reputation (as I feel this video depicts). I think Richard Branson and the Pendolino have helped bring travelling by train into the 21st century and takes an entrepreneur like him to push things forward. Although, I guess it had to happen sometime or later.

  • its has damaged virgins rep. but stagecoach own 49% of the company. it didn't damage there reputation.

  • That's probably because most of your average train passengers have no idea that Stagecoach part own VT. Now if Mr. Souter had his way and plastered his corporate paint job all over the Pendos or somehow managed to get his logo on them then it might have been a different story for them!

  • they have got their logos on most of the latest pendo trains, its called crosscountry, apparently stagecoach got the east lines and virgin got the west country, along with all the grand voyagers as they are one of the most reliable trains on the planet, i travel a lot and im glad i didn't have to experience what a train crash feels like...

  • when did it happen?

  • 23rd February 2007

  • ye :-(

  • poor pedolino

  • @IDOANYVIDS yes is poor peedolno
