I love this guy. He is hilarious, a bit quiet and in his own world, but in a sweet way - not quite as odd as Kiprusoff and not quite as crazy as Nurminen :D. Gotta love Finnish goalies... Very calm but slightly mental anyways!
And yeah these people are right, "kari" means a rock under water. "Karin laiva onnistui kiertämään karin." means "Kari's boat managed to go around the rock/shallows/reef".
Ummm... What's wrong with that :D? I like Swedish goalies as well, Lundqvist and Tellqvist for example (not Salo so much, hahaha!). And Hasek is my childhood hero.
It actually does mean the things the guys stated before. It just isn't that clear when you think of it - your first thought of Kari will be a man's name. We barely use the other meaning unless in a context of ships crashing into these low under-water "rocky islands".
Kari is what you call a Rock under water when your sailing or cruising on a speedboat. You have to look out if theres any Kareja. Their usually just below the surface and fuck up the rotor
Wow. I've been to probably 50 Thrashers games and have never seen Kari do this. Maybe I just haven't been paying enough attention to him during stoppages.
to be too tall isn´t good. i have a friend who is 2,10m and he often escapes my notice, because there are just shoulders where i assume to see a face. and he doesn´t see me, because there´s just empty air. hard life :)
Oh God, Kari, you crack me up. Amazing. I saw the pictures of him just sitting on the goal, and I wondered how he was getting up there. He's so tall that it makes sense that he could just jump, but omg, it's so hilarious to actually see it. XD
lol! Yeah, I would love to learn it. Then I could actually know what was going on with one of my favorite Finnish hockey players that's not in the NHL (Ilari Filppula). XD It's so hard to find stuff about him in the states...;_;
Hih.. I change my favourite team everytime when some of my favourite players is changing team. Well, I have many favourite players so I have also many favourite teams :)
Oh, my favorite team will always be the Columbus Blue Jackets (I have really bad taste in teams...XD They suck so hard...But I love 'em.), but I have a couple close-favorites, I guess you could call them.
*waves a little JYP flag with one hand, and waves a little Jokerit flag with the other* XD That's another reason I want to learn Finnish. So I can follow the SM-liiga easier.
Yeah, it's really stupid how hard it is to follow the NHL in other countries...Hell, it's hard to really follow other teams if you're not in their area. Like, I'm moving a several hundreds of miles (I don't know what that would be in KM...I'm horrible at converting.) away from where I am now, and I'm not gonna be able to get Jackets games without paying a ridiculous amount of money for Center Ice. So I feel you. ;_;
I think it´s very stupid that team Finland has 3 days free before they have their next game.
And hmm.. I don´t know yet which is going to play then, but I would like to see Kari playing, because Norre did some mistakes against Russia and he hasn´t play after that. Well, Kari did a mistake yesterday, but I still like to see him on the ice.
Yes, Kari was a little sick and also someone else but I don´t remember those now. But that team doctor said that it was some kind of allergic reaction or something... And I know about that. I would also like to see Kari playing and other Finns who plays in NHL. But it´s not possible for now :(
what song is the organ playing in the background?

maestrothegreat 2 years ago
In naval sense it means rock. When ships hit rocks in the ocean.
tetsuokun 2 years ago
no not like that.. Kivi means "a rock" in finnish but Kari means snag
stardustie 2 years ago
you mean crag?
maestrothegreat 2 years ago
with snag i ment the ground that hits the boat when you drive too close to the shore.
stardustie 2 years ago
no.
ismoproject 2 years ago
Does it mean anything?
maestrothegreat 2 years ago
no its just a name
ismoproject 2 years ago
online dictionary translates it like rock. is that right?
maestrothegreat 2 years ago
no thats so wrong kari is just a name it doesnt mean anything
ismoproject 2 years ago
As a name it doesn't mean anything, but the word "Kari" i basically a rocky islet, skerry, or as you said rock. Make any sense? :)
joonas7 2 years ago
Thank you for the clarifications about the word "kari". The Finnish name Kari comes from the Greek name Makaros and means "happy".
maestrothegreat 2 years ago
And here finland Kari is name and it means too shoal or somekind trap under water.
crabby112 2 years ago
thank you. now we concluded that it is a different word.

Eep! x_x I wonder who they'll put in net for that game. Didn't they play Kari last game? I think they're switching he and Norrena off.
Aw, I would KILL to be able to get the Worlds games. Norrena plays for the Jackets, so I'm like, yay my goalie!
