I picked up a kit a few months ago and decided to try to learn to play it recently. :) I have a musical background (guitarist), so I understand the concepts of rythm, but the mechanics of building speed is what is causing me the biggest problems so far. I can play many of these routines at 90 or so beats per minute, but how the hell do you build this kind of speed and accuracy? Is it just practice or am I missing something?

@winger383 I'm 12 and iv'e been drumming since i was about 6 or 7 and one thing that helps is how you hold your sticks. If you hold them firmly at the base you will get a heavier but slower thud. if you hold it at its fulcrum (center of balance) with your thumb on top and pointer and middle finger on the bottom spaced about a centimeter apart with a little bit of a loose grip then you can get faster but remember practice makes perfect.

@winger383 A shitload of practice, trust me, if you practice enough you'll become fast enough, just make sure to hold your sticks with your fingers mostly, not your hand, let it swing as you hit, let it be relaxed, using your wrist instead of your whole hand, Ive been drumming for almost a year and my speed has GREATLY increased, just from playing on a practice pad and kit. However, he does absolutely nothing to explain how to do the triplets, making this video essentially useless to anybody that doesn't know how to do them in the first place. Look up flicky76's John Bonham Triplets Drum Lesson. He breaks down a few of the basic kinds of triplets, playing them both slowly and at full speed. It's a lot more helpful.
