  • Uhm... who "dug up" the iPhone, the PC, electricity, etc?

The stock market trades on *companies*, not on *commodities*.

He reads a letter from yet another brain-dead socialist who thinks labor is more important that creativity and intelligence. He who works smart is far superior to he who simply sweats.

  • You people singing the praises of this incompetent ass are part of our problem today.

Napoleon said "the moral is to the physical as 3 to 1". Carter destroyed our morale.

And he speaks of the "energy crisis"... an artificial crisis, much like "global warming".

Anyone who can't see Carter's incompetence never lived through the 70s.

  • You can't sell anything on Wall Street unless someone dug it up somewhere else first.

  • Carter was a hack, just like the rest of them.

i'm sick of both democrats and republicans, they are both making me truly sick, this is why i'm a libertarian.

  • He was warning us then and its coming true now.People forgot about the great depression and FDR bringing us out of it by taxing the rich 90%. Yes 90% tax. That's where all those roads highways and state parks came FROM. GOVERNMENT JOBS PAID FOR BY THE RICH MANS TAX DOLLARS.And the rich did just fine because everyone had a job to earn money and buy things with. Most homes only had one parent working. The mom got to stay home. Dads retired at 60 with full pensions.WE ARE ALL READY SCREWED!

  • @zacharykelway

Too bad, FDR increase the size of government just as much and you are part of the controlled false left/right paradigm.

and we didn't get out of the great depression until after WWIII.

I'm sick of the false left/right paradigm.

  • @jmjfanss Wrong your the idiot, taxes were 90% on anyone making more than 300,000 all the way from the 30's to Ronal Regan..25*left Communism,20*Left Marxism,15*left socialism, 10*left Liberalism,5*left Labor, Center, 5*right Management,10*right Conservatism 15*right Nationalism, 20*Right Nazism 25*right Fascism.Your SAT score must be crap.Your whats wrong with the country. You don't know left for right. I teach Government!

  • @zacharykelway

    And I Do too moron.

  • @zacharykelway - 90% personal income tax. Corporate tax rates were 54% in the 1950s, for example.

Nazism, Fascism, Socialism and Communism are ALL on the left.

  • @Hiraghm You don't know left from right. Hey maybe you can go dig up a history book and re write it. That way you can make Mussolini, Hitler, Stalin, Napoleon all friends. It's evident your a idiot. A CEO's pay used to be 10 to 20 times more than a entry level worker. Now its grown 300% and the workers has only gone up 1%. A CEO MUST WORK 300 Times harder than a average worker because he gets paid that way.

  • @zacharykelway - It's not a matter of harder; it's a matter of SMARTER. That worker you cry for can't do the CEO's job.

And you don't know left from right. I stand by what I said. Mussolini, Hitler, Stalin were friends at one point (so were the Bolsheviks and Menchaviks, at one time...). Napoleon was an Emperor, but rose to power on the rhetoric of socialism.

Minimum wage has gone up 725% since it started.

  • @zacharykelway - FDR *didn't* bring us out of the depression. He extended it. By getting us into WWII, he got us out of the depression.

  • Why do republicans hate Jimmy Carter? Because he didn't have or show one scrap of greed! And that is what Republicans want! PURE UNADULTERATED GREED!

  • @zacharykelway

    Quit supporting democrats and republicans.

  • @zacharykelway - because he was a total incompetent who crippled our economy, wrecked our military and made us an impotent joke in the world. That's why we hate him. I know, I lived through his hell.

  • @Hiraghm I disagree with you whole heartedly. The richest 400 American people have more wealth than the bottom 200 million Americans. I disagree with you. I think we have more Ceo's than necessary. They also allow corruption. You can't sue a company that pays all its profit to its Relative, fraternity brother ceo's. TOO LONG HAS THE TAIL WAGED THE DOG.

  • @Hiraghm A lot more of us lived through it than you'd like, I daresay. President Carter was Naval Command of a nuclear submarine, something you wouldn't know anything about. U r a tool of the slavemasters who used the Iranian hostage situation (George Bush, Sr., went to Paris before the election to negotiate the deal to have them released the afternoon of the inauguration - Iran Contra, remember?) to seat a sad old man suffering from beginning stages of Alzheimer's disease to do their bidding.

  • Popcorn Peanuts, crackerjacks.

  • Complain all you want, but he beats the crap out of Reagan.

  • @M1CH4EL45HM4N thank you, someone had to say it

  • What a douche. No wonder he was unelected at the earliest possible opportunity. He's basically talking about turning energy into a command and control economy. No wonder there were energy shortages. That and the hare brained price controls that never work. Has government ever taken over anything and the prices went down or the service or availability improved?

Carter was a complete fraud, right down to the empty suitcase he carried off of Air Force 1 when he disembarked.

  • I just finished listening to all 33 minutes of this speech. What an embarassment for Carter. If he had had any decency, he would have resigned after making this pathetic, depressing admission of failure. Mondale should have urged his boss to quit.

  • @eheino99 Reality check hurts

  • 0:26 ... a president "who feels your pain" Looks like Bill didn't invent that phrase!

  • such a wonderful person only if he would have been president now we would be a better place, but america wanted to be all american man or a movie star as some realize I hope you all see the great strenght and loyalty to this country

  • Jimmy, the whining anti-Jewish bitch, Carter couldn't take responsibility for his own failures so he tried to drop his stupidity in the lap of the American people. LMAO! Jimmy Carter was the reason Americans had a crisis of confidence, American lacked confidence in you Mr. Carter. If Jimmy, the bitch, Carter would have won in 1980, the people of Eastern Europe would still be enslaved by the commie Bolshevik butchers that the leftists like Chisler admire so much. Chisler is a pathetic fool.

  • This President was one of the best Presidents the U.S ever had. If the U.S collectively had more character, they would've rode it out. But they didn't, they copped out and voted for some pussy from Holywood who brought in the era of what republicanism is today, a bunch of corporate whores and shucksters. Carters honest and integrity was his downfall...... what a shame.

  • We need another Carter, desperately.

Obama isn't close enough, but he's good.

  • Jimmy Carter was a whiny bitch who blamed everyone but himself for the problems he and his libertarded friends have created. This nation has been on a downward course since the days of that Commie cripple FDR and that downward course has continued to this day. The only minor interruption in that downward course was Reagan's 1980's. Barry Hosedbama should make this speech today, another whiny blame America for everything. It didn't work for Carter's in '80 we will see how it works for Hosedbama.

  • @cnsrvtvsrule LOL you are so brainwashed...communist conspiracy nut job.

  • @mcapps1 And Jimmy "the whiny bitch" Carter got his libertarded clock cleaned in 1980 by Ronald Reagan. Carter took one of the worst most one sided defeats in history for a sitting President. Carter was a bum of a President and he will die a bum.

  • @cnsrvtvsrule you're a complete pussy. This was one of the greatest Presidents the U.S had. It's not his fault that the country lacked the character and work ethic to see it through.

  • @chisler000009 LMAO! Yup that's right, LMAO! Chisler has it right and the rest of the country got it wrong in 1980. Oh where would this nation be without the "intellectual elites" to show us uneducated rabble the way. LMAO! The intellectual elites who are so smart that they must turn to government to wet nurse them through life. I guess when one is as smart as they are they just don't have the time for the little things in life like making through the day without the help of some government hack

  • I didn't know Mr.Rogers was president.

  • What a great leader. What a great man.

  • A lot of ruff-tuff cream-puffs don't like Carter.

  • We have a similar bumbling and incompetent left-wing fool in office, we survived the other one, will we survive Barry Hussein ?

  • @Lysy2 if you think Barack Obama is left-wing you're for lack of a better description messed in the head. Bumbling? George Bush was the worst bumbler of all!

  • Peanut Eater, REAGAN GO REAGAN GO!!!

  • Does anyone expect an American to slow down and drive the speed limit? Hell no, that's tooooooooooo muuuuuuch to ask!

  • Ah, yes. Carter's infamous "malaise" speech. Proof that progresseism was as idiotic then as it is today.

  • @ggh7664 what for being honest? go back to your archaic conservativism i'll keep my 'progressiveism' thanks.

  • @jamspooge86

    Honest? How so?

Progressivism is what is wrong with the world. Open your eyes.

  • Carter spoke the truth courageously and what did the American people say?

"That sounds difficult and complex - I'm scared. But Ronald Reagan says it's simple and there's nothing to worry about. Well, that's a no-brainer.". Exactly.

  • He who speaks the truth will no longer be President...last real President we had. Most people prefered an actor. The start of the down fall for this country. Jimmy Carter had a heart which is sorely missed in present day society.

  • @cnew62

Yes. Nothing like double digit unemployment and interest rates to demonstrate what a real President can do.

  • @ggh7664

Yes, nothing like that have's and have more President to show how it's done...lol. The man was on a continous vacation and really look out for the rest of us..what a joke...duh!!

  • @cnew62

Yeah, all Reagan did was end the Cold War. Big deal.

  • @ggh7664

He also brought us record defecits and Iran Contra. Actually, do you even know what the Cold War really was and how it "ended"? That's a ridiculous claim all conservatives make for Reagan. Tell me one other thing he truly did to make our country better.

  • @mvb0423

By your response, it is obvious there is no reason to have any further discussion with such an ignoramus.

  • @mvb0423

1 - Cut interest rates dramatically, sending the economy into a short term recession and risking unpopularity in order to end the rampant inflation of the Carter administration, which ran nearly 15% annually. By thus reestablishing the value of the dollar, eliminating thousands of pages of unnecessary federal regulations, and cutting absurd tax rate,s Reagan and Volcker set the stage for the economic boom of the 80's and 90's.

  • @bwood21390 yeah Reagan made the national debt skyrocket and was one of the most protectionist presidents in U.S history.. i don't agree with the programs of allowing people who can't afford to buy houses to buy them and can't pay back the mortgage.

  • @mvb0423

2 - Reagan ended the crisis of confidence. Through inspiring rhetoric, he reminded America of what it once was, and that the people, the individuals of this nation, are the solution, not the government. That individuals acting for their own happiness in a market are the true movers and shakers. He inspired us out of our slumber...our crisis of confidence.

3 - He stood up to the Soviets and called evil by its name, inspiring further confidence. He was bold and inspiring.

  • @mvb0423 In short, I'd challenge you to go to east Germany and ask someone there who was alive in 1988 what they think of Ronald Reagan and his role in the Cold War. I'd challenge you to go back and ask the voters in 49 of 50 states why they voted to elect him in '84. That's 98% of states, pops. I'd challenge you to ask any economist or businessman what he did for our economy. And I challenge you to ask any American about the change from crisis to confidence between the 70's and 80's.

  • @bwood21390 Any economist? Do you understand the long term consequences of putting anti-environmental lobbyists in charge of both the Interior Department and the EPA? Do you understand the long term consequences of the meteoric rise in the national debt? Do you understand the consequences of handing over so much power to the major corporations? You are living it now. The regular people have never felt so powerless, because they never have been so powerless.

  • @RobertMcG123 I love libs who complain about the debt, as this president will manage to add 50% to the nation's debt...to all the debt from our entire history before him...all in his first term. But besides that, do you truly believe major corporations run this country? Who is bailing out the biggest corporations? Who is undercutting competition and saving failures at the expense of successful smaller companies? Who propped up the housing market through Fannie and Freddie and made a bubble?

  • @RobertMcG123 If you want to make the case that corporations run the show, look who's looking out for them. It's your big, friendly federal gov. It was Jimbo Carter's Community Reinvestment Act that strongly "encouraged" banks to give out loans to people likely not to pay them back. Clinton vigoroously enforced it. And we're shocked by the housing bubble. People say capitalism caused this crisis. Capitalism never had a chance. Government is everywhere. Get it out and watch what the market can do

  • @cnew62 That is always what I say: Reagan was the beginning of the end.

  • M*A*L*A*I*S*E

  • I heard the POTUS give this speech last night!

  • He shares my pain? Seems I heard that one in the 90s too? She should feel our PAIN, he sure knows how to CAUSE pain!

  • I will always be astounded at the stupidity of the American people for choosing a crowd pleasing actor over a courageous leader.

    God bless J-Cart

  • Is there a copy of this video with better sound quality (volume)?

  • Reality Check, Reagan was in bed with corporate America big time-they put him in office. Reagan's politics were instrumental in creating the huge disparity between wealthy stock holders (corporate America) and the now vacant middle class. Reagan's legacy is bolstered by sentimentality of a time that hasn't existed in reality since Roosevelt. Reagan is a figurehead that is held in esteem based solely on conservatives romantic notion of what America should be, but it's not real .

  • god this speech is horrible politics. Carter had some great ideas and saw the end of oil energy coming decades before anyone else but revealing his own psychological insecurities on national television is not a sign of a man in charge. Bush II projected more confidence than this...and was a more effective "leader" even though he had no idea wtf he was doing

  • god this speech is horrible politics. • Obama's mailasie speech will be when he shoves energy reform down our throats. Energy costs would neccessarily skyrocket. It will be part of his environmental cap and trade bill.

  • Carter was the appologizer in cheif too. In 1977 he created the Department of Education at the federal level to diseminate his progressive views.

  • @ToxicOdiousOne

    Shame.

    DOE is unconstitutional.

  • This is every Obama energy speech. On energy, foreign policy, and the economy he is Jimmy Carter. Jobs? Immigration? No I don't want the federal government doing anything about job a.k.a. pet projects. Amnesty for criminals? Rewarding failure indefinately? Ignoring the oil spill for later political gain by declaring we have an economic crisis.

  • Speech was just as true as it was 30 years ago as it is now... It's really too bad Carter was on the ass end of the Democratic Party's era of legitimacy.

  • what are you people talking about concerning ronald reagan? wtf i mean you all have your own views and thats the beauty of our society but the man lies when he speaks, hes an actor and a bad one at that. The man wouldve probably promoted heroin for sears roebuck then have his campaign, sorry, "war on drugs" to ban it. hmmmm methinks they are all corrupt little puppets

  • @stopularno ew.

  • "and the morals that they worshiped, will be gone"

The only worship now in the West is gross-consumerism...we have become stupid, fat pigs who point the finger at all of ours problems except...ourselves.

  • its too late for change now. were simply out of control. even if we(humanity) change in morals and values, with this system there is no way these companies will change their motive, which is profit. And under this motive, as we see they have destroyed families, countries and many more that we cant see. We are to greedy to believe we can change. its sad to say all this bcuz we have a great potential to do nearly anything, but instead were just chasing our tails and being part of the downfall.

  • I think we missed the turning point. It's to late for us now. We are out of control now and the perfect life and the american dream is no longer true. I envy the past and wish that i was born in the stone age. I am extremely sad to be a part of the system. Knowing that we(humanity) have created our own doom, I am deeply sorry for all of us. All mighty, have mercy on our souls. Peace...

  • I saw this on the DVD bonus features of Capitalism A Love Story. I was capivativly shocked at what his goals were and how they still widely remain ignored today and in congress.

I blame deregulation under Reagan and W Bush. Conservative calls for less government when we need strong efficient government. Not big bills full of pork, but smaller ones with less to hide. I want science and facts, not religion.

The private sector should be for TVs and Cars, not medical care. Way too corrupt.

  • Blaming deregulation?? The big government is the one who created a 1990 page health care bill, then passed it with back-door dealings, bribes, and threats of political doom for anyone opposed!! Cars are no longer in the private sector, every tax-paying American owns a share in Chrysler and Chevy. I think you should follow some of your own advice!

  • good bless jimmy carter! he warned us of what's happening today 30 years ago. he dared to tell the truth! unfortunately today, many americans "can't handle the truth". they wanna be pampered and spoiled and never be told that they are a part of the problem!

  • @dahoss2x hahaha.

  • @dahoss2x

ronald reagan didn't win the cold war, the US mixed economy did.

  • i dont believe that he was whining as much as he wanted to educate and involve the people. it is after all about the people. the problem with the people is we are looking to someone else to solve our problems when we should be looking to ourselves. to solve our problem. He did do what a good president is supposed to do. He gave us a chance to speak about our problems.

  • That's what Obama is doing but people don't like it. I think there is a fear in America of having general education or knowledge. People rather be ignorant because that's bliss.

  • People don't want to be ignorant, they are being fed history that is decided for them, chosen to be published in schools by people, not chosen by time and facts.

  • There are STILL so many Americans that love the nation enough to sacrifice for the general good. What is sad is that anytime someone suggests it (unless we've just suffered an attack from the outside), that person will get destroyed by attacks from the opposition party.

I believe that our younger generation is missing a sense of civic duty. A visionary president needs the ability to communicate in a positive way. Had he been better at that, he could have sold his goal of energy independence

  • dont you all understand we are all loosing hope the people have lost faith i have lost faith WE NEED TO STOP BLAMING EVERYONE AND OUR GOVERNMENT AND LOOK AT OURSELVES IN THE MIRROR. you want to change the world before nations change people must change i hope you all could understand that we need to come together as a nation because this world is dieing it is going to end but why cant we make a difference

  • The truth is, Carter was simply too much of a good person to be the POTUS.

  • This is what happens when one man has the guts to come tell the truth: Ten million others are "offended" by the truth. They come and do ANYTHING possible to get rid of the one that speaks out!

  • @rojichan64

It's true, everything he said in this speech is correct. However, we don't elect presidents to whine about the problems that we all were aware of. He hire them to solve our problems. When Ronald Reagan came into office, he turned to economy around, rebuilt the military, and oil prices went way down. Carter was a well intentioned man, but not a good president

  • Keep living in the fantasy world where Reagan was a good president. The fact of the matter is, that the rich got richer under Reagan, and he started the culture of greed which caused the current financial crisis.

  • @uglybunny

With all due respect, you're only 23. You were not even born yet when Carter was in office. However, I was there. Let me tell you something - we had double digit inflation, an energy shortage, a hostage crisis, a deep recession, an military in shambles, and no leader in the whitehouse. The country was in bad shape. When Ronald Reagan took office, he got the economy back online, rebuilt the military, got our access to oil back.

    Regan saved America.

  • @SamTheHammer With all due respect, my age has nothing to do with the validity of my statements. Lets see: Double digit inflation started in 1965 and Carter appointed the man, Paul Volcker, who defeated it. The energy shortage happened because of the Iranian Revolution -- the cause of which was rapid Westernization. Hostage crisis? Also caused by the Iranian revolution and Reagan PROLONGED it for political gain. Reagan had nothing to do with saving the economy, or getting access to oil.

  • @SamTheHammer The reason oil prices spiked is because there was less being produced, not because our access was cut off. See, when there is a revolution going on in a country things like industry stop. Also, the rebuilding of our military got underway in 1980, while Carter was still in office. He's the reason we have SOCOM and Joint Special Forces. For a person trying to tell me how it was "back then" you sure don't know much about that time.

  • Carter wasn't the best President, and was in office during difficult times, but he was honest, and had foresight in this speech.

I recommend viewers watch Colonel Andrew Bacevich's comments on this speech, or read his book.

  • Wow! God bless him! he spoke of real challenges and what was waiting 30 years ago and what did US do? They didnt handle the truth, voted against him and for something that made so much problem for todays USA! almost 12 trillion in debt! stretched military! 50 million under poverty line! 10% unemployment! Dollar in freefall! dependent on foreign oil (70%) and a Empire in decline! Will US do same mistake in 2012?

  • @donsaeid

lol. No, he had no idea what he was doing and blamed the American people for his Administration's failures. Funny how all of our problems seemed to disapear on January 20, 1981.

And yes, the US is in debt because liberals keep spending trillions of dollars on bailouts and entitlements that we can't afford. You can multiply the Iraq war times 10 and it wouldn't come close to the cost of medicare. It will be liberal socialism that brings us down, just like the russians.

  • @Eterna1Soldier "all our problems seemed to disappear", well they didn't did they? Keep that nazi attitude alive and keep thinking you think differently than someone calling themselves a democrat. You aren't a part of the powers that be, you just like how they tell you what to think.
