Seeing this again, in the context of Ben's rescue of Alex from Widmore, I think that Alex was the only person in his life he really loved more than himself. Juliet, well, that was about power -- but he truly loved his daughter, and it is on that measure that he damns himself.

There is something about this scene that makes me want to watch it over and over again. he fact thats its so not what you expect to happen, how subtly moving it is. Its lost at its best. Ben is amazing in this and he is fast bcoming my favourite character in the series.
